When he goes to her and they talk, things do not go well. He decides immediately to go down to the bottom of the sea and cut the air tube. He tells her so. When both become more aggressive, he strangles her. He believes she is dead, but when she awakens her only thought is to save him. With some of his co-workers she hasten to the diving boat - but they come too late.
- In 1846 the actress Gloria Vane is performing at the Adelphi Theatre, London. She is in love with the destitute nobleman Albert Finsbury, who is shortly departing to Australia to become an officer in the Queen's regiment. He is supposed to pay his debts before leaving and uses an altered cheque to do so. After Finsbury has left, the forgery is discovered. To protect him, Gloria claims responsibility and is sentenced to 7 years in the notorious Paramatta prison, Sydney. From prison she sends a note to him asking for help, but he does not reply. An Aussie seller falls in love with her and asks her to marry him - she agrees, but only so she can get out of prison. When she finds out Finsbury is planning to marry the Governor's daughter, she is heartbroken. Finsbury finally finds her, but she no longer loves him.

But Brett charges Tack and Strummer with the theft and the vigilantes gather to hang them.

- Two criminals escape from prison. Together with two old accomplices they plan a big heist against a racetrack.
- American newlyweds Peter and Maria come to a small Swiss village to hire Glooker, a famous mountain guide, to take them up the east wall of Pitz-Palu, one of the highest peaks in the Alps. They meet fellow American Dr. Jensen, whose wife fell to her death on a Pitz-Palu climb 20 years ago to the day. Jensen returns each year on the date of her death hoping that the ice will yield up her body. He cautions the young couple against attempting the difficult climb, especially in the threatening weather, and confesses he had failed to heed a similar warning 20 years before when the fatal accident occurred. As dawn breaks, Peter leaves the house, leaving Maria asleep, determined to try the climb alone. Jensen hears him and insists on going. Maria awakes and is determined to share with Peter the adventure and the danger. Together the trio begin the assent, waving casually to a band of students (who are later buried in an avalanche). The climbers also have a few problems of their own.
