Jim keeps asking Samantha for more money, and Chelsea and Denise plot against Matt so that he will lose the coming courtroom fight for custody of Chelsea. Also, Taylor worries about Peter whose obsession with her as her sister is becoming more twisted.

Amanda visits Peter's new home and makes a move to reconcile. Carter takes Sydney on a private getaway to a ranch near San Francisco to show her where he grew up, and she tries to break down his creative block. But later, Sydney learns the true reason why Walter has been insisting to her to spend time with Carter. Jake proposes marriage to Alison and they begin talk of moving to another place. When Michael is injured in a car crash in attempting to stop Kimberly from killing herself, he has a bizarre near-death experience in the hospital involving an angel Megan urging him to come with her to Heaven, while a demon Kimberly urges him to come with her to Hell, while the two women wait... hoping that he will recover.
- After taking a punch from Billy, a frustrated Jake hits the road and ends up in a small town visiting his former girlfriend Colleen and her eight-year-old son. Back in Los Angeles, Alison has Billy as company when she hears her unborn baby's heartbeat. Meanwhile, Carter, wanting to get away from his solitude life, moves in with Sydney and begins looking for a new job and finds one... in Kyle's restaurant. Michael's personal care for Kimberly works wonders for her when they learn that her brain tumor is shrinking, but it has Megan wondering if she and Michael are finished. Peter finally starts a romance with Taylor, while a revenge-seeking Craig meets with Nick and hires him to spy on Peter, hoping to find out what he's up to in order to break Peter and Amanda up.
- Amanda persuades Peter to start seeing a therapist when he starts acting insanely jealous and manic-mannered, especially when he creates an ugly scene at a business dinner with Craig. Meanwhile, Jane persuades Sherri to spend the Christmas holiday with her, where she tells Jane more about her past. Samantha goes to an art gallery auction to try to recover one of her paintings that Sydney sold to Kyle and pocketed the money, and Billy tries to get another painting away from Craig that he keeps in his office. Sydney meets a reclusive millionaire, named Carter Galivan, whom she hopes he will buy the painting she is trying to sell. Kimberly tells Megan of a plan to kill herself to end all of Michael's fiscal problems. Jake sweeps away Alison's holiday blues with a vacation to Park City, Utah, which turns less than cheerful. Also, Matt starts seeing Dan's possessive side when he showers him with assorted gifts.
- Michael's devious younger sister, Jennifer Mancini, arrives in town from New York to stay, and moves in with him and Megan at the beach house and soon shows her true arrogant colors when she meets with Amanda for a job at D&D. Meanwhile, Craig thinks romancing Sydney will solve D&D's legal problems after she follows Harry's advice to sue the agency. Alison has an uncomfortable meeting with Colleen, Jake's former girlfriend and mother of his son, who arrives for a visit and makes Alison vulnerable to fall off the wagon again. Matt tries to stop Chelsea from going to Paris with Denise. Samantha secretly uses Billy's money to finance her father's next move after she learns that he has actually escaped from prison and asks her to hide him long enough for him to leave the country. Amanda goes out with Kyle to various art gallery exhibitions, and Taylor tries to fulfill Peter's fantasy of making herself as his dead wife Beth.
- Amanda struggles to maintain control of D&D and her marriage to Peter when he moves out of her apartment and in with Michael and Kimberly after a heated argument. Meanwhile, Jane continues to stalk Jake and Alison, and he gets frustrated at not being able to do anything when Jane goes to the police first and charges HIM with harassment. Matt tells Dan that he wants to leave rehab because he has feelings for him. Billy and Samantha try to move forward with their relationship. Michael continues to lust after Megan who refuses to tell him about herself. Also, Samantha sets a lonely Sydney up on a blind date with a friend who turns out to be a sex-addict.
- A rejuvenated Peter tries to reconcile with Amanda, who proves more difficult than he thought, while Dan tries to do the same for Matt. But Dan's further possessiveness results him injuring Matt again. After Jane's boutique shop is burglarized, she turns into a recluse which makes Sherri wonder if she has failed as a mother. Then a surprise visit from Jane's parents makes her realize that she wants to get a new start on life and she decides to move back to Chicago with them, and Sherri decides to start a relationship with Ed. Amanda learns from a drunken Craig his long-kept secret about his father and using it to come into power at D&D. Sydney is asked by Carter's bodyguard, Walter, to hang out with Carter at his house, but she resents it when business meetings interfere. Megan, under orders from Kimberly, takes Michael to Las Vegas for a wild weekend of fun and gambling where she persuades him to marry her.
- Michael campaigns to become the new chief of staff at Wilshire Hospital, as does Peter, and as does Dr. Irene Shulman, the overachieving chief resident. Meanwhile, Kimberly meets with Megan thus revealing that Kimberly hired Megan to seduce Michael to get him sexually active again. Kimberly orders Megan to end the charade with Michael. But Michael refuses back away from Megan. After Amanda saves Craig from botching an account, he reluctantly agrees to tell her about his father's plans to oust her from D&D. Alison sees an opportunity to come back to D&D temporarily when Amanda asks her help to keep a major account. Dan exercises emotional caution in his burgeoning relationship with Matt after their first date. Craig continues to pursue Samantha, much to Billy's wariness, while Sydney does the same with Kyle, and Taylor continues the same with Peter who continues to lie to Amanda about what he knows about Taylor.
- A nearly broke Craig moves into #8 apartment at Melrose to continue his pursuit and revenge against Amanda. Meanwhile, Josh introduces himself to Michael and threatens to expose Megan's past life at a hospital benefit, which all turns out to be Kimberly's plan to break up Michael and Megan. Peter and Taylor plot a dangerous scheme to steal Nick's incriminating photos of them together when Taylor drugs him long enough for Peter to sneak into his apartment to take the pictures. Undaunted, Nick and Craig switch to "Plan B" where Craig informs Amanda of Peter's liaison with Taylor, and she finally gives herself to him.
- Against her doctor's orders to ease her work load, Alison goes to D&D to meet with a client. Meanwhile, Michael hires Megan as the new receptionist at Burns-Mancini practice despite Peter's wariness. Kimberly is hospitalized and is told of a new problem in her medical condition that could help her or kill her. With Samantha's help, Matt tries to find his runaway niece while he argues with his mother over who will take custody of Chelsea. Amanda invites Craig for a weekend drive up the coast where she tells him of a new turn in her life of vowing to be celibate for an indefinite period. Sydney meets Hilda Morris, the woman suing her, and her sleazy lawyer, Harry Dean, who make it clear that they will not back down from the lawsuit and plan to take all assets that Sydney owns. At the end, Samantha's controlling, violent ex-con father, Jim Reilly, suddenly shows up for a surprise visit.
- At Megan's request, Kyle rescues Jennifer and lets her stay in his apartment at Melrose until she can find a more decent job. Shortly thereafter, Amanda takes Kyle for a vacation to the Caribbean where thoughts of romance fly between them as they prepare to proceed with their divorces. In Los Angeles, Taylor reluctantly approves Michael's plan against Peter to psychologically break him down by making him think he's a violent epileptic. Meanwhile, Jake and Alison plot to move from Los Angeles to start their lives over. Sydney's lawsuit against D&D is settled after Craig threatens Harry and then makes her a job offer she cannot refuse. Also, Jim threatens both Billy and Samantha after the police put a surveillance team on them.
- In this two-hour episode, Kyle and Nick have a boys night out that ends in jail for both of them when they get into a barroom brawl at Shooters. Meanwhile, Taylor supplies Peter with valuable news about the hospital's new chief of staff's intimate involvement with his employer, Dr. Ilene Shulman, which enables Peter to seize the title for himself. Amanda uses Craig's lust after her to her own advantage to have him sign some papers so she can finally take control of his half of D&D. Alison and Jake set a date for their marriage, but at the last moment, she leaves him standing on the alter. Samantha moves in with Billy after she can no longer stand cohabitation with the abrasive and nihilistic Sydney, and Alison soon follows suit with Jake. Megan becomes unhappy when the bed-ridden Kimberly coaxes a promise out of Michael to be with her through her last weeks, and to refrain from having sex with Megan until after Kimberly dies. Sydney tries to get Carter to talk to her after Walter forbids her from seeing him again. After Craig lies to Peter that Amanda and him are deeply involved, he runs to Taylor for comfort.
