- The series is based on the 1936 novel "Wounded Eagle" by Serbian author Mir Jam. Like the novel, the television series is based in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia between the World Wars and centers around the love life of naive young protagonist Andjelka Bonjanic. After marrying a Montenegrin lawyer, she quickly realizes she has made a mistake. Since she had already lost her virginity during her teens, something looked down upon at the time, her husband--who learns this after marrying her--divorces her quickly. Andjelka relocates to Trebinje to get her life back on track. There she meets new people and finds new love, but her past catches up with her, bringing more drama and heartache.
