He goes backstage to see her and asks her if he can make a puppet of her to use in his show. Over-hearing this, the Baron, Suzanne's controlling manager, castigates Suzanne threatening to set her free. Suzanne terrified of being on her own, begs the Baron to marry her and not to leave her. Tony comes during one of Suzanne's performances and begs her not to marry the Baron. Upset, Suzanne falls into the orchestra pit and injures herself to the extent that she won't dance again. Baron leaves Suzanne, but Tony with a doctor's help puts her through a vigorous exercise program. Tony also shows her how to be a puppeteer. Tony confesses to Suzanne that his true friends are his puppets. He picks up the puppet of Suzanne and tells her that he is in love with this puppet. Suzanne not realizing that he means her becomes confused. Together they put on a successful celebrity puppet show. During a celebration party, Tony decides he will propose marriage to her uniquely. He picks up the puppet of her and asks it to marry him. Suzanne becomes jealous and confused...

- Arthur T. Ryan, a hitchhiker, gets a ride from haughty, society girl Glenda Wynant and her fiance, wealthy J. F. Van Avery after he helps them to replace the top of their convertible when it begins to rain. As they approach a bridge, Art notices a few stalled cars, and when the storm worsens, the bridge washes away, leaving Art, Glenda, Van and several others stranded in a canyon. Art, Glenda and a black father and son decide to climb out and go to nearby ghost town, Helldorado, a relic of the California gold rush, while Van and the others take shelter in an old mine shaft. In Helldorado, the group seem to be alone, and Art finds a gold pan which bears the words "First Gold in Helldorado washed in this pan by John P. Ryan," who was Art's grandfather. Art and Glenda meet Abner Meadows, an old man who talks to ghosts and who believes that Art and Glenda are John Ryan and his wife, Molly, both of whom are dead. Abner reveals to Art and Glenda, who decide to "play" the phantom married couple, that many years earlier, he and John discovered a valuable gold mine, the location of which Abner is unable to recall. The rest of the stranded group arrive, and Glenda worries about Van's reaction to her playing Art's wife. When Art finds the mine, he offers to give everyone present a share and also discovers a way out of Helldorado. After climbing out of Helldorado, Art, Glenda and Van go to a hotel in nearby Digby. Art announces his discovery to the proprietor, and reporters arrive assuming that Art is partners with the rich and renowned Van. Art begins making grand plans to turn Helldorado into a major industrial center when a call comes in from the assay office informing him that his mine contains only fool's gold. The news of gold has spread like wildfire nonetheless, and a crowd of shovel-bearing men gathers in Helldorado demanding to know the mine's whereabouts. Art is frantic, but Glenda arrives and gives him a document that turns out to be Abner's original deed stating the true location of the mine. Art shows the crowd the area where the mine was discovered, being careful to protect Abner's claim. Glenda informs him that she won't return to Van, and the two embrace.
- Venus sends Cupid to earth to find if romance still exists there. He finds Moira and Peggy, a fisherman's daughters, who become entangled in the amorous pursuits of an artist and a fisherman. Cupid returns to Venus with his report.

Eben, distraught at losing her, goes away, and he returns years later to find that David, now an orphan, is running away from his cruel foster father, the squire. Eben befriends David, and when the town is destroyed by a storm the two escape harm. An epilog shows David 25 years later as a successful businessman, happily married, helping to rebuild the town. - Whistling Dan Barry, a cowboy with an untamed heart and a love for all creatures, tames a beautiful wild stallion and frees a German Shephard dog caught in a steel trap. With "Black Bart" the dog following, Dan rides his new horse "Satan" home to the Cumberland ranch, where he has lived for ten years. Cumberland's daughter Kate berates Dan for staying away for so long, but nonetheless defends him when Cumberland insists that Black Bart be sent away. Cumberland relents, but explains to Kate that she should not give her heart to Dan, who has been wild himself since his family was lost in a flood ten years ago. Cumberland found young Dan roaming the wilderness alone, and he fears that Dan will never understand the treacherous ways of human beings. After Kate gives him the good news that Black Bart can stay, Dan goes to town, where he wins the bets testing his shooting ability offered by a boastful stranger, Jim Silent. They go to the bar, where Silent starts a fight with Dan, and during the confusion, Silent, Lee Haines and their gang steal the bar's till. Dan is knocked unconscious and in danger of being killed when the bar catches fire, but he is rescued by Satan and Black Bart. Everyone, including the gang, Kate and Cumberland, believes that Dan is dead, but, later that night, Dan's eerie whistling convinces the gang that he is still alive. Haines tries to use Kate as a lure to capture Dan the next day, but the scheme does not work, and Silent kidnaps her. Dan joins forces with Marshal Tex Calder, who deputizes him, and the pair trace the gang to the Elkhead Hotel, where Silent shoots and kills Calder. Dan captures Haines and puts him in jail, where he is in danger of being lynched by the irate citizens. Silent orders Kate to convince Dan to free Haines and threatens to kill her father if she does not succeed. Dan arrives at the hideout, where Kate begs him to free Haines for her sake because she is in love with him. Dan is crushed but agrees to do as she wishes, and soon has Haines back at the hideout. Haines, who is in love with Kate, is upset to hear that her declarations of love for him were only a ploy, but he resolves to make good by helping her and Cumberland escape. Dan enters as Haines and Silent begin a shootout, and after Silent escapes, Haines tells Dan about Kate's true feelings before he dies. Silent rides to town, where Dan has posted a sign stating that he will come for him at eleven o'clock. Dan finds Silent, and despite his attempt to cheat during their duel, Dan outdraws him. The sheriff tries to arrest Dan for killing Silent, but Dan reveals that he is Calder's deputy, after which he is reunited with Kate.
