In order to fight Tabea one last chance before the youth judge Kaltenhoff, Rike uses her whole environment: from Uncle Hubert as an experienced lawyer to Dr. Stadelmeier in his dual function as veterinarian and mayor to local police officer Jan Meier. Rike also includes her new friend Moritz, who has a PhD in behavioral research. Although he specializes in the social behavior of wolves, Rike convinces him to develop a special anti-aggression training for Tabea.

Um Abschied von ihrem verstorbenen Vater zu nehmen, kehrt die in England lebende Ana Kaleb mit ihrem 13-jährigen Sohn Denis auf die Pferderanch ihrer Familie zurück. Das erste Wiedersehen nach neun Jahren führt jedoch zu einem Streit. Wutentbrannt nimmt Anas Ex-Mann Vinko ohne ihr Wissen den Jungen zu einem nächtlichen Ausritt mit. Als die beiden in der Dunkelheit der Steppe verschwinden, fallen Schüsse. Vinko wird tödlich in die Stirn getroffen. Kommissarin Stascha Nowak und ihr Kollege Emil tun sich schwer, die Spuren am Tatort zu deuten. Auch die verzerrten Erinnerungen von Denis bieten kaum Anhaltspunkte. Stascha spürt von Beginn an, dass es zwischen Ana, ihrer Mutter und ihrem Bruder Niksa tief sitzende Spannungen gibt. Als die Leiterin der Mordkommission sich dafür interessiert, warum die erfolgreiche Tierärztin hier alles hinter sich gelassen hat, stößt sie auf verstörende Zusammenhänge. So kommt Stascha weiteren Verbrechen auf die Spur.
