However, Yamato is attacked by a devastating beam weapon called the Flame Direct Attack Cannon that can transcend space. Yamato is able to retreat, but ends up getting lost and finds itself in a strangely colored irregular dimension. The crew decides to turn off the ship's engine and explore a mysterious planet. In order to collect information Kodai, Kiryuu, Sawamura, Niimi and Aihara land on the planet. What they see when they arrive is a ship that's not supposed to be there. Dagam chases after the traces of Yamato's warp, and also reaches the strangely colored space. The planet where the crew of Yamato landed is in fact what Dagam has been looking for all along.

Impressed by his strength, Lumses enlists Gear in the Special Forces, alongside an archer named Opal, and tasks them with the mission of rescuing Segua's strongest warrior, General Alex, who is being held prisoner in the Ninteldo-allied country of Tatrand. Later that night, Gear is called out by Opal, who disapproves of him and who challenges him to a fight for his right to stay in the army. Gear manages to win easily with a direct attack, earning Opal's praise after he explains how he admires those who aim to go forward. The next morning, Lumses introduces the third Special Forces member, a somewhat perverted mercenary named Tejirov, who decides to train Gear for the operation, his barriers winning against Gear's speed.
