Finally, just when Oliver needs his help to rescue Arline, Stanley gets drunk while siphoning wine into bottles.

Once aboard, the captain warns them that whoever says the word "ghost" will get his head twisted from north to south. After much time at sea and many port stops later, one of the drunken sailors falls into a trough of whitewash, terrorizing Stanley and Oliver into blurting out "ghost" in front of the enraged captain, which brings about the story's Laurel and Hardy trademark "another fine mess" ending.
- Oliver's plans to marry his hefty sweetheart go awry when the girl's father gets a load of her intended groom. They then elope in a tiny car much too small for their combined dimensions, not to mention the accompanying Stan. They find a Justice of the Peace to perform he ceremony, but the official's cross-eyed condition results in unintended consequences.
- Taking the train to a show in Pottsville, musicians Stanley and Oliver run into trouble once settled in their sleeping car berth.

Right there with him, although he tried to avoid taking them, are his Axis-stooges, Italy's Mussolini and Japan's Suki Yaki. However, an American P.T-boat crew is already there and has some plans for Schickengruber and his buddies.
