Meanwhile, Gilbert, who has married Belle Galloway, a designing spinster, is shocked to learn that Edith is a cabaret dancer and has her committed to a reformatory, where she is crushed mentally and physically. Discovering that Belle is only a scheming hypocrite, however, Gilbert pays her to leave him, and he seeks out Edith to atone for the past. They go abroad, and Edith is happily reunited with Norman.

As played out on the stage of Monument Valley, long ago, tribes of Indians defeated the ancient cliff dwellers; then came the Europeans to conquer the Indians. Now, in the early 20th Century, a tribe of Navajo live on a reservation overseen by an Indian-hating agent, Booker. He and his men steal the best Indian horses for their own profit. Nophaie, a tribal leader, complains to Booker's higher-ups, but he is unable to gain fair treatment from the whites. When World War I breaks out, an Army captain comes west in search of the horses that Booker was supposed to have bought from the Indians for a fair price. Marian Warner, the teacher at the Indian School, has befriended Nophaie, teaching him to read; she convinces him that the Great War is a fight for a more just world, and that, when that world comes, the Indian will be better treated. Nophaie not only brings horses for the Army, he and many other Indians enlist, and distinguish themselves in battle. But when they come back after the war is over, they find life for Indians even worse than when they left. Surely, they feel, it is time to fight back. But Nophaie is not so sure.

Mame, the older, goes on vacation and returns home to find that her kid sister, Janie, has vamped her way into the arms of Mame's intended.
- During the war Owen Bradley, pleading that his leave had been canceled, fails to visit his home and sweetheart Toppie in England but spends his time with Madame Vervier, with whom he is infatuated. Owen is killed in action but in accordance with his promise, his brother Giles takes Madame Vervier's daughter to his mother in England, where she soon becomes a favorite and finally engaged to a viscount. In the meantime, Giles, who has always loved Toppie, tries in vain to win her and she finally enters a convent. To prevent her and aid Giles, Madame Vervier's daughter Alix tells Toppie the truth and Toppie denounces Madame Vervier as a bad woman. Giles has already learned that his brother was only one of many with whom Madame had affairs. This truth finally becomes known in England and the viscount breaks his engagement with Alix. When Toppie enters a convent, Giles realizes that he really loves Alix and returning to France finds Andre is attentive to her. Giles soon learns the truth that Alix has always loved him, so he takes her in his arms. - Moving Picture World.
