In this list I have in my opinion the top 25 most underrated movies. They're listed in order in my opinion of the best overall film. The ratings are included at the end of every paragraph.

An amazing, exciting mob drama with great all-around acting by Johnny Depp, Al Pacino and other secondary characters, Micheal Madsen and Bruno Kirby. Great story and perhaps one of the greatest gangster films that isn't recognized that well. And based on a true story! 9/10

2. Gone Baby Gone (2007)

Excellent Movie with superb acting and a great story from writer Dennis Lehane. Ben Affleck's directing debut was a great success. Great acting from all especially Amy Ryan who was nominated for best Supporting Actress. The ending really leaves you thinking for days about morals vs ethics. This should definetly be in IMDB's Top 250 as well. 9/10

3. Frequency (2000)

Dennis Quaid's best movie has an amazing storyline followed by an intense twist that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. A great movie that I never wanted to end. Should also be in IMDB`s Top 250. 9/10

4. Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

Great Science Fiction film that is probably in the top 5 of the last 20 years. Action-packed with a great storyline and character development. Better than any of the latest Star Wars projects. 9/10

5. Owning Mahowny (2003)

A bank manager with: (a) a gambling problem and (b) access to a multimillion dollar account gets into a messy situation. Based on the story of the largest one-man bank fraud in Canadian history.

Philip Seymour Hoffman is in top form as an addicted gambler. His performance is perfect and the film as a whole portrays gambling as it really is. Not glorious and that one can get deeper and deeper until they are at rock bottom. John Hurt also plays a casino owner with expertise. 8/10

6. The Assassination of Richard Nixon (2004)

Absolute tour de force performance from Sean Penn. snubbed from award recognition and very relevant film today with the advance of conspiracy theorists… 8/10

A great psychological thriller that had my attention throughout the entire film. Nicholas Cage actually played his role very well and the storyline was well thoughtout. A great movie!!! 8/10

8. Ocean's Thirteen (2007)

Not on par with the first one but still great and entertaining. Also has Al Pacino joining the all-star cast. Great acting of course and a great twist to the heist like always. I was so happy this one wasn't like the 2nd one which was a huge disappointment. 8/10

Great performances, great script. The only knock is they could have wrote a better character for Angela Bassett... 8/10

10. Kill the Messenger (2014)

Suffered by lack of release. This film was one of the best of the year. Jeremy Renner had an explosive performance and I learned a great true story that made me curse the old CIA after this one. Great informative movie with stellar supporting performances along the way as well. 8/10

11. The River Wild (1994)

Intense and very entertaining should be recognized more with sucessful acting and a great plot probably one of the best hostages movie ever. 8/10

B-movie star Ray Stevenson steals the show demonstrating his acting chops while the likes of Vincent D'Onofrio, Christopher Walken and Val Kilmer are along for the ride. Definitely the best mobster film in recent memory since The Departed. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. 8/10

13. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2011)

When I saw it in theatres I laughed my ass off the whole time. I thought it was humourous the whole time and I viewed it once again at home to see if it had the same effect on me twice. And yet it did. Perhaps the best family movie series of its time. Good fun! 8/10

The most intense thriler of all-time!!! How is this not in IMDB's Top 250? M. Night Shaylaman's best film since the Sixth Sense has intensity thorughout the entire film by placing the setting in an elevator shaft with 6 people. And it is revealed that one is the devil!!! 8/10

15. Chappie (2015)

Neil Blomkamp does it again! Emotionally driven with great acting from two new unknown actors. Co-driven by strong performances by Hugh, Sigourney, Dev and Sharlto. Great Science Fiction film and one of the best of the year in my opinion. 8/10

16. Chasing Amy (1997)

Holden and Banky are comic book artists. Everything's going good for them until they meet Alyssa, also a comic book artist. Holden falls for her, but his hopes are crushed when he finds out she's a lesbian.

Kevin Smith's best film. Captures the young relationship aura of modern day quite accurately. Some unforgettable and emotional scenes. 8/10

The sequel was a huge disappointment but this one was a movie that was unlike no other. The perfect movie for all ages has some memorable villains a.k.a Dick Van Dyke, Bill Cobbs and Mickey Rooney and some humour with other fun characters such as Theodore Rosevelt, Sakagweea, Christopher Cloumbus and the dinosaur. I know it's not an academy award winner or anything but I can't stop loving this movie. 8/10

18. Dolores Claiborne (1995)

All of the actor and actress performances are stellar, how none of them were nominated for this film blows my mind. A depressing film with themes that still resonate today. 8/10

The acting, the cinematography, the story and the flow were all very well done. Michael Shannon deserves at least a nonimation for best actor as he is superb as the stone cold killer. Ray Liotta also puts on a good show something he hasn't done in a while. 8/10

This film was very entertaining and had an interesting plot and several twists but not too many to keep me interested. Also had many good character actors shining in their roles, (Joe Pantoliano, Barry Pepper, Jim Caviezel, Greg Kinnear, etc.) 8/10

It has the perfect balance of comedy, sadness and character development. You empathize with the characters which means when that happens the director is doing a phenomenal job. Check this out you won't be disappointed! 8/10

Intense remake of "The Poseidon Adventure" (1972) has acting as good as the original in my opinion. The special effects are great in this film. Like Ebert says all the actors are professionals and there is nothing wrong with their performances. I believe there is nothing wrong with this whole movie. Totally underappreciated and underated. 8/10
