- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsSally HawkinsOctavia SpencerMichael ShannonAt a top secret research facility in the 1960s, a lonely janitor forms a unique relationship with an amphibious creature that is being held in captivity.I don't even know what to say about this film. I spent most of the crying just because of how beautiful it was. 10/10
- DirectorLee UnkrichAdrian MolinaStarsAnthony GonzalezGael García BernalBenjamin BrattAspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family's ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-great-grandfather, a legendary singer. While the very beginning is a bit lacking, Coco really picks up once Miguel goes to the land of the dead. The animation is breathtaking, it's respectful to Mexican culture, the themes of family are very well done, the characters are interesting and well developed, it's genuinely funny and like any Pixar film, it's an emotional powerhouse which, yes, made me cry. (9.5/10)
- DirectorTaika WaititiStarsChris HemsworthTom HiddlestonCate BlanchettImprisoned on the planet Sakaar, Thor must race against time to return to Asgard and stop Ragnarök, the destruction of his world, at the hands of the powerful and ruthless villain Hela.Admittedly, I might be giving this movie too high of a score and this might change in the future but I had a really fun time watching this. The story was easy to follow, the action was as good as ever, and the characters, old and new got some great time to shine. This movie shows how far Thor has come since the first movie, Hela was a great new villain, her bodyguard guy also got a decent side arc, and as much as I hated Odin in the previous films, I think he was portrayed very well in this movie. However, out of all the characters I think Loki was developed the best. I had mixed feelings about him before but now (especially after rewatching slme of the other movies), Loki is one of my favorite characters. He had a lot of funny lines, convincing development and at this point, I do believe that he genuinely loves Thor. Speaking of which, it was great to see the relationship between Loki and Thor explored. They had some geniunely touching scenes and on top of that, some of the funniest scenes in the movie. I love how Thor throwing crap at Loki to see if he was really there was a recurring joke in the movie. It should be obvious at this point, but this movie was just downright hilarious to me. Pretty much every joke made me laugh, even the dumber ones. The simple story was also very much appreciated. For once, I could easily understand what was going on without feeling the need to bullet point every little thing in my mind. It still is a good story because mind you, there is nothing wrong with a simple story. In fact, the simple story meant I could focus on the great characters and comedy, similar to the first Thor. Also, I have to give props to the ending. It was very clever and something I genuinely didn't see coming. It was kind of a bittersweet conclusion but unlike a certain other film, it didn't feel overly depressing and actually resolved the main conflict. Overall, just a very enjoyable film. 9.5/10
- DirectorRuben FleischerStarsTom HardyMichelle WilliamsRiz AhmedA failed reporter is bonded to an alien entity, one of many symbiotes who have invaded Earth. But the being takes a liking to Earth and decides to protect it.This movie was freaking amazing. The story was solid, the characters are all pretty likeable, and this movie feels, for lack of a better term, real. They acknowledge that the earth is going to be uninhabitable very soon and the villain does immoral things in the name of science. I also love the relationship between Eddie and Venom and yeah, I ship it. The movie is also pretty funny and just fun to watch in general. 9.5/10
- DirectorRobert StrombergStarsAngelina JolieElle FanningSharlto CopleyA vengeful fairy is driven to curse an infant princess, only to discover that the child could be the one person who can restore peace to their troubled land.I'm gonna get some flack for this one but I really do love this movie. Character is something I care deeply about in fiction and real life. While I like the original Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent in it, I prefer this version. Maleficent's character is handled very well and I actually love that they gave her humanity. She has a personality outside of being pure evil and it's very appealing to me. Her character arc of impulsively giving in to revenge, unintentionally cursing herself and suffering because of it was honestly fascinating. I also like her character in general. If you want more on her specifically, just ask and I'll link you to my analysis on her. The characters in general are well handled in this movie. Stefan's descent into madness was tragic, Diaval was a fun character, and Aurora was pretty enjoyable at times. The only characters I really don't like are the fairies. Yeah, that's probably my one problem with the movie: the fairies are really annoying. Their characters from the animated one got really screwed over. Honestly, the funniest parts of the movie are when Maleficent is messing with them so at least there's that. I also love the story, the CGI and landscapes are beautiful, and the action is kickass. What more could I really ask for? 9.5/10
- DirectorScott DerricksonStarsBenedict CumberbatchChiwetel EjioforRachel McAdamsWhile on a journey of physical and spiritual healing, a brilliant neurosurgeon is drawn into the world of the mystic arts.If I could describe this movie in word it would be INSANE. Seriously, who comes up with this stuff? This is unlike anything else I have ever seen. Needless to say, I loved it. The visuals were amazing, the action was pretty unique and exhilarating, the story was different and Docto Strange's powers were honestly fascinating and very unique. The only thing holding it back is that the characters aren't as good as in other Marvel movies. However, the movie is overall an adventure. 9.5/10
- DirectorMichael GraceyStarsHugh JackmanMichelle WilliamsZac EfronCelebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.I don't really get the critical bashing of this film. Even if it's not historically accurate (I don't know if it is or not), it has to be a movie first and it does well in that right. The story is well done, the characters are interesting enough, the visuals and choreography are just gorgeous and stunning to take in, and the music is also fantastic. Personally, I liked this movie a lot more than La La Land. This movie had more memorable musical numbers (and just musical numbers in general) and while I still think La La Land looks gorgeous, this movie just blows that one out of the water in terms of it's choreography and visuals. It's messages also jived with me more than La La Land. Overall, a very expertly crafted film. 9/10
- DirectorLasse HallströmStarsJosh GadDennis QuaidPeggy LiptonA dog discovers the meaning of its own existence through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love. Reincarnated as multiple canines over the course of five decades, the lovable pooch develops an unbreakable bond with Ethan. As someone who actually believes in reincarnation, I really love this movie. Yes, it's awfully convenient that Bailey kept being reincarnated as a dog but other than that, this is a solid emotional movie. 9/10
- DirectorBrad BirdStarsCraig T. NelsonHolly HunterSarah VowellThe Incredibles family takes on a new mission which involves a change in family roles: Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) must manage the house while his wife Helen (Elastigirl) goes out to save the world. No, this movie doesn't quite top the first one. Some plot-threads go nowhere or were pointless and the twist villain is the most obvious in Disney history (Evil-Endeavor? Seriously, we predicted that before the movie even came out). However, this movie still kicked ass.
- DirectorMamoru HosodaStarsAoi MiyazakiTakao OsawaHaru KurokiAfter her werewolf lover unexpectedly dies in an accident while hunting for food for their children, a young woman must find ways to raise the werewolf son and daughter that she had with him while keeping their trait hidden from society.I was a little unsure going in to this film about what they could really do with a concept like this but they actually make the characters and their situations very endearing and interesting. It's also very emotional, has stellar animation, and the ending is very bittersweet but quite satisfying in a way. Definitely worth a couple hours of your time. 9/10
- DirectorGreg BerlantiStarsNick RobinsonJennifer GarnerJosh DuhamelSimon Spier keeps a huge secret from his family, his friends and all of his classmates: he's gay. When that secret is threatened, Simon must face everyone and come to terms with his identity. This was a fun movie with a surprisingly dark sense of humor. As someone who likes dark humor, that was a pleasant surprise. I could really relate to this story at points since I'm in the LGBT community and even met one of my best friends online first. And okay, I'll say what everyone else has probably already said: it's refreshing to see a movie with a gay romance in the spotlight. I really wish it didn't have to be this way but it's nice when the LGBT community is actually acknowledged in media like this as we're pretty under-represented. The romance isn't good because it's gay however it's good because it's well-developed and cute and these people are a good match for each other. Because gay couples are not any different than straight couples. Love is love. Going back to the movie, the story is interesting and the ending is very sweet. 8.5/10
- DirectorChris ColumbusStarsTaye DiggsWilson Jermaine HerediaRosario DawsonIn New York City's gritty East Village, a group of bohemians strive for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, illness and the AIDS epidemic. This movie deals with some heavy themes while still being a fun watch with some great music and even some emotional scenes. All the characters are very distinct and likeable and their arcs were interesting to watch. 8.5/10
- DirectorJon WattsStarsTom HollandMichael KeatonRobert Downey Jr.Peter Parker balances his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens with his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man, and finds himself on the trail of a new menace prowling the skies of New York City. This movie had a pretty good story with some new elements along the way, some good action, and some really good humor. (That bit at the end with Captain America had me laughing on the floor) However, there's nothing in this movie that beats out the original two Sam Raimi films. It is better than Spiderman 3 though and I had fun watching this. 8/10
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordKaren AllenPaul FreemanIn 1936, archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is hired by the U.S. government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis can obtain its awesome powers. It took me two years to finally get to this movie. That's kind of sad. Anyways, this was pretty good. The action is cool, the story is engaging, the practical effects are great, and it's always good to see Harrison Ford in movie. My only issue with it is that the movie ends on an anticlimax which is really disappointing. Otherwise, pretty good movie. 8/10
- DirectorDavid YatesStarsEddie RedmayneKatherine WaterstonDan FoglerGellert Grindelwald plans to raise an army of wizards to rule over non-magical beings. In response, Newt Scamander's former professor, Albus Dumbledore, seeks his help to stop him.Okay yes, there is a plothole with Mcgonogall being alive before she should be. That doesn't ruin the movie because it's one scene and doesn't really amount to anything. Anyways, I love this movie better than this first. I didn't expect this to become a franchise but now I'm really into the overall story. Newt Scamander is loveable dork he was in the last movie and I actually like his relationship with Tina. This movie also looked downright stunning on the big screen. I was gawking at the visuals during the climax, which for the record was epic. I'm excited for the next movie. 8/10
- DirectorJohn HustonStarsAileen QuinnAlbert FinneyCarol BurnettA spunky young orphan is taken in by a rich eccentric, much to the chagrin of the cantankerous woman who runs the orphanage. This was thoroughly enjoyable. The music is fun, the story is engaging, and the characters are likeable enough. My favorite in this might be Ms. Hannigan. She is freaking hysterical in this movie and honestly, even relatable at times. She's a bad bitch with an attitude, but that's entertaining as hell in this movie. I also like how Mr Warbucks grows to love Annie. It's genuinely sweet. Overall, pretty fun movie. 8/10
- DirectorAndy TennantStarsDrew BarrymoreAnjelica HustonDougray ScottThe Brothers Grimm arrive at the home of a wealthy Grande Dame who speaks of the many legends surrounding the fable of the cinder girl before telling the "true" story of her ancestor.I am not a fan of the Cinderella story. However, this is most definitely the greatest Cinderella story that exists and probably will ever exist. Danielle is an amazing character. She is intelligent and king but has her limits. She isn't nice to everyone like in other versions and has her limits. She is also strong and independent. She saves the prince and gets herself out of sticky situations with logic and thinking. For god sake, her "fairy god parent" in this version is Leonardo Da Vinci. There is no magic, just logic and thinking. So it's more likely to actually happen in real life, which I love. I also love that Danielle and Henry's relationship is actually developed. They meet numerous times before the famous ball scene (which is barely a thing in this movie) and actually develop a connection before they get married. My only problem with their relationship is that Henry is kind of a jerk when Danielle reveals who she really is. I also love that there are action scenes. Also the fact that one of the stepsisters is actually nice. And that the evil stepmother and stepsister are actually punished at the end of the movie for their despicable actions. Okay I'll stop rambling, but this movie really is worth all the love it gets. 8/10
- DirectorRob MarshallStarsKathy BatesAlan CummingAudra McDonaldA little orphan girl catches the attention of a kind man named Mr. Warbucks, who wants to adopt her, but the cruel, strict orphanage owner has a scheme to keep Annie - and her reward money.Disney did a pretty good job with their adaptation of Annie. It was a fun time and had better singing than the original. Parts of it do disappoint, like not having as much of bond between Annie and Warbucks and a rather rushed ending but it is overall enjoyable. 8/10
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordSean ConneryAlison DoodyIn 1938, after his father goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, Indiana Jones finds himself up against the Nazis again to stop them from obtaining its powers. This is about on par with Raiders of the Lost Ark. It isn't as adventurous as that movie but it has some of the best character, some of the most intense moments, and a twist that I actually didn't see coming. Overall, a good time 8/10
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansMark RuffaloWhen Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plan. While this movie is a little overstuffed, it was still enjoyable to watch. I liked that Hawkeye was in the movie more, Ultron was a well done villain, Vision's origins were interesting, the relationship between Bruce and Natasha was really cute, and as always the action is awesome. Just another solid entry from Marvel. 8/10
- DirectorDavid LeitchStarsRyan ReynoldsJosh BrolinMorena BaccarinFoul-mouthed mutant mercenary Wade Wilson (a.k.a. Deadpool) assembles a team of fellow mutant rogues to protect a young boy with abilities from the brutal, time-traveling cyborg Cable. This movie was just as entertaining if not more so than the first movie. The story was pretty well put together and there was less annoying out of order stuff. I also appreciate the 'moral' about family and how it's based on love and not always birth. That's just a concept I love. I also love how the person with the seemingly most stupid power (luck) ends up being the most powerful and badass. The time travel thing does kind of bother me and Deadpool's "death" is dragged out way too long. However, I still really liked this movie overall. 8/10
- DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsSissy SpacekPiper LaurieAmy IrvingCarrie White, a shy, friendless teenage girl who is sheltered by her domineering, religious mother, unleashes her telekinetic powers after being humiliated by her classmates at her senior prom.To be honest, I'm really torn between which Carrie movie is better. I think they are both great. This movie has a pretty solid story, the movie really makes you feel for Carrie, and the music is amazing. It really fits every scene and makes the mood stronger. Plus, this movie is very subtle. Many scenes are silent, outside of the score, yet it makes the emotions stronger and you can tell what's going on without dialogue. Those parts of the movie are amazing. However, there are some parts that have become really dated. Overall though, this was great. 8/10
- DirectorKimberly PeirceStarsChloë Grace MoretzJulianne MooreGabriella WildeA shy girl, outcast by her peers and sheltered by her religious mother, unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.As the first adaptation of this story I've officially seen, this was pretty solid. The story was great and throws in some interesting new elements, the effects looked very real, and there were parts that legitimately scared me (Carrie and Margaret's fight at the end was particularly intense.) What holds it back a bit for me is that the characters should've been explored more (especially Sue) and for god sake, does every horror movie have to end with some kind of tease? Without the dumb screaming and grave cracking in the normal ending, it would've been a more subtle ending. Overall though, this was a really good film. 8/10
- DirectorVincent WardStarsRobin WilliamsCuba Gooding Jr.Annabella SciorraChris Nielsen dies in an accident, and enters Heaven. But when he discovers that his beloved wife Annie has killed herself out of grief over the loss, he embarks on an afterlife adventure to reunite with her. This movie was very interesting. The way it represents the afterlife, linking it to different religions and emotional states, is fascinating and beautiful to look at. I also love how the movie handles soulmates. It is also a very emotional film. I spent most of it trying not to cry. At least it ended happily, which is more than I can say for some other movies I've seen this year. However, while this movie is pretty good it's one big weakness is the story. It's not a bad story by any means. The story is actually quite good, but the structure and pacing are really off. The main character's goal doesn't become realized until maybe halfway through because of all the exposition about the afterlife. However, it is still interesting so I won't complain. 8/10
- DirectorTim MillerStarsRyan ReynoldsMorena BaccarinT.J. MillerA wisecracking mercenary gets experimented on and becomes immortal yet hideously scarred, and sets out to track down the man who ruined his looks.Yeah, I like dark humor so I thought this was pretty funny. And that's really the only thing that matters in a movie like this. When it's not funny, the story is at least engaging enough to carry the movie. My only issue is the out of order story actually gets kind of confusing at times. 7.5/10
- DirectorIshi RudellKatrina HadleyStarsAshleigh BallAndrea LibmanRebecca ShoichetWhen Sunset Shimmer finds out that her friends have no memory of her, Sunset is determined to recoup her friends' memories of her and find the perpetrator responsible. This was pretty solid. While I did see the twist with the villain coming from a mile away, the storyline was still good, it was nice to see Sunset in the pony world, the new Trixie-Sunset friendship was enjoyable, and the comedy was very funny. 8/10
- DirectorRon HowardStarsAlden EhrenreichWoody HarrelsonEmilia ClarkeDuring an adventure in the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future co-pilot Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebel Alliance. This was a lot better than I thought it would be. The story is kind of a mess but makes enough twists and turns to keep me interested. It also answers some questions I've for a while and has some amazing action. I'm still not entirely sold on the new Han Solo actor but he did alright and this all resulted in a pretty good movie. 8/10
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsJim SturgessHugo WeavingDavid WenhamSoren, a young owl, is kidnapped by the evil owls of St Aegolious and want to turn him into a soldier. He escapes with some of his friends and warns the mythical guardians about the evil plan.No I haven't read the books but from what I've seen here, I probably should. This movie had stunning visuals, a great story, and exhilarating action. Definitely worth a watch if you're old enough to handle the darker themes. 8/10
- DirectorAng LeeStarsSuraj SharmaIrrfan KhanAdil HussainA young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor: a fearsome Bengal tiger. This movie is...weird. However, there's a lot to talk about when you really look into it. It's such a simple story but it's so metaphorical and deep. The tiger could represent Pi's determination to stay alive which left him once he washed up on the beach. The animals n general could be metaphors for humans to portray the cannibalism that really happens in those kinds of situations. There's a lot this movie could be talking about. It seems to depend on people's interpretations. I also like how this movie portrays religion and belief and how it's kind of a fluid thing. With all that serious stuff out of the way, this movie is really freaking weird. I mean, an island that eats everything? A tiger named Richard Parker? It's weird but has a charm to it. 8/10
- DirectorPeyton ReedStarsPaul RuddEvangeline LillyMichael PeñaAs Scott Lang balances being both a superhero and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past. This movie is a better than the first one in my opinion. It's a fun ride (until the end credits, which I decided not to factor into my final rating) and the action and story are very engaging. I thought the villain had a very compelling backstory and it was cool seeing more of the Quantum realm. Overall, a pretty solid story. 7.5/10
- DirectorYarrow CheneyScott MosierStarsBenedict CumberbatchCameron SeelyRashida JonesA grumpy Grinch plots to ruin Christmas for the village of Whoville. This movie defied all odds by not only not being a trash-fire, but actually being good. Like, genuinely good would watch again at Christmas time. I have no idea how the hell they did it but this movie was genuinely funny, charming, and even heart-warming at times. The Grinch in this movie is really relatable to me (it was actually starting to piss me off a bit) and I think the development of that character is done better here than any other version. Also, the ending scene is adorably relatable for socially-awkward people like myself. It's basically the live-action movie done right. The main issue with this movie, like all these Seuss adaptation, is that it's really padded. A lot of the filler with The Grinch and Cindy explaining their plans could've been cut, trimmed, or at least made more funny. 7.5/10
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansSamuel L. JacksonScarlett JohanssonAs Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world, he teams up with a fellow Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D agent, Black Widow, to battle a new threat from history: an assassin known as the Winter Soldier.I was pretty eager to watch this movie and I came out of it pretty satisfied. The characters are all very interesting and well handled, the action is awesome as always and the story is a good one. Nothing in this novie really blee me away but nothing pissed me off either. Just a good film, better than the original in my opinion. 7.5/10
- DirectorDavid YatesStarsEddie RedmayneKatherine WaterstonAlison SudolIn 1926, magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in New York during his worldwide tour to research and rescue magical creatures as something mysterious leaves trails of destruction in the city, threatening to expose the wizarding world.Yeah, I'm convinced that this movie is a metaphor for the LGBT community. I mean, it involves wizards hang to suppress their magical abilities, a huge part of who they are, until it manifests into an Obscurus. The wizards have to hide their wizardness from the "normal" non-magical people and they even says stuff like "they could've discovered out community." With that aside, I really liked this movie. The new characters are fun, especially Newt Scamander, who is just a loveable dork. Really my only problem with this movie is the romance between Queenie and Jacob, which just bothered me for some reason. 7.5/10
- DirectorPeyton ReedStarsPaul RuddMichael DouglasCorey StollArmed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, pull off a plan that will save the world. This was pretty good but not very original, especially compared to the other Marvel movie I saw today. I've seen plenty of shrinking movies and I predicted pretty much everything that was coming. I also don't like how the ants are treated like slaves. However, this does still have the main pro of shrinking movies: jokes with the scale. Those are very funny and it is quite impressive to look at. I also think the conflict between Hope and her father was actually very believable and heartfelt, the story was still pretty good and the action is great. 7.5/10
- DirectorMichael LehmannStarsWinona RyderChristian SlaterShannen DohertyAt Westerburg High where cliques rule, jocks dominate and all the popular girls are named Heather, it's going to take a Veronica and mysterious new kid to give teen angst a body count. This movie is good but clearly dated. All the homophobic talk (including insensitive slurs) are pretty casually used and as someone of the LGBT community (and just someone with decency and compassion), it's not fun to hear. I will give it credit, the fathers of the dead sons are accepting about their dead children being supposedly gay, which is more than I can say for some people today when it comes to these things. However, that's not the only sensitive topic that's poorly represented. The suicides are treated more like something that just happens that the popular kids are doing rather than a horrible tragedy that impacts everyone involved. Not just by the students, the teachers view it like that too. That may have been the point, and Veronica at least has the right idea, but it's something that the musical did better since this viewpoint is more clearly represented as wrong. I also can't stand Veronica's mother, who is just a horrible bitch. However, this movie got it's main leads down well. Veronica does many terrible things, unwittingly at times, but she has a good heart, making it easy to sympathize with her, especially considering the situations she ended up getting into, including but not limited to an abusive relationship. Veronica and J.D's relationship showed signs of being unhealthy from very early on (J.D flat out admits at one point that he doesn't like Veronica's friends) but the signs are fairly subtle. However, they worsen overtime as J.D reveals his true colors. That is honestly why I find this movie so horrifying. Veronica was tricked and taken advantage of by a sociopath, a very likely and terrifying thing that could happen to anyone. What makes it good however is that Veronica DOES realize that the relationship was abusive and stood up to her abuser. And these actions are clearly shown in right. Heathers handles the topics of abusive relationships and sociopathy very well, which earns my respect. This is a very intense movie, especially the ending scene, and definitely deserves it's R rating. It was also very entertaining though not as good as the musical that adapted from it. 7.5/10
- DirectorOl ParkerStarsLily JamesAmanda SeyfriedMeryl StreepFive years after the events of Mamma Mia! (2008), Sophie prepares for the grand reopening of the Hotel Bella Donna as she learns more about her mother's past.Lily James is a way better singer than Meryl Streep. There, I said it. With that out of the way, this was a fun movie. The story is really all over the place and dumb but it's fun to watch and the songs are very enjoyable. The ending also made me tear up. 7.5/10
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansRobert Downey Jr.Scarlett JohanssonPolitical involvement in the Avengers' affairs causes a rift between Captain America and Iron Man.This movie was definitely better than what I've seen of Batman vs Superman. The characters fighting had actual reasons to fight and while this movie is padded, it is not boring. It kept my attention well enough and had amazing action and characters. It is contrived but not nearly as much as Infinity War or Batman vs Superman. Overall, pretty good. 7.5/10
- DirectorRyan CooglerStarsChadwick BosemanMichael B. JordanLupita Nyong'oT'Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda, must step forward to lead his people into a new future and must confront a challenger from his country's past. This was another good Marvel movie. The story was unpredictable and kept me on edge, the action was awesome, and it touches on some pretty serious issues. 7.5/10
- DirectorKenny OrtegaStarsZac EfronVanessa HudgensAshley TisdaleSchool's out for summer and the East High Wildcats are ready to make it the time of their lives after landing jobs in a wealthy country club owned by Sharpay and Ryan's family.I couldn't really relate to the first High School Musical movie. This movie however, actually has legitimate commentary about this part of children's lives that I could actually relate to my own life. I also liked the songs a lot, though I don't know if any of them quite top "Breaking Free" from the first movie. Overall, this was a lot better than I was expecting. 7.5/10
- DirectorDamien ChazelleStarsRyan GoslingEmma StoneRosemarie DeWittWhile navigating their careers in Los Angeles, a pianist and an actress fall in love while attempting to reconcile their aspirations for the future.I see why this is so beloved. It's visually gorgeous with great scenery and choreography, the music is nice, and the message is inspiring and touching. With all that said, this movie doesn't quite jive with me in the way I feel it should. There's just not much that makes this stand out from other movies I've seen aside from the message and visuals. It needed something more styled and unique or maybe more interesting main characters to keep me fully invested. Overall, the movie does drag at times for me, but I wouldn't mind watching this again and I do recommend it to other people. 7.5/10
- DirectorMarc ForsterStarsEwan McGregorHayley AtwellBronte CarmichaelA working-class family man, Christopher Robin, encounters his childhood friend Winnie-the-Pooh, who helps him to rediscover the joys of life.Yes I admit, nostalgia does make me biased but I really did enjoy this movie. It's just cute and charming, okay?! Plus, Ewan Mcgregor is in it. 7/10
- DirectorStephen ChboskyStarsLogan LermanEmma WatsonEzra MillerCharlie, a 15-year-old introvert, enters high school and is nervous about his new life. When he befriends his seniors, he learns to cope with his friend's suicide and his tumultuous past. This was a pretty good movie. The story is literally just a chunk of this person's life, which really works and it kept me entertained enough. 7.5/10
- DirectorMel BrooksStarsMel BrooksJohn CandyRick MoranisA star-pilot for hire and his trusty sidekick must come to the rescue of a princess and save Planet Druidia from the clutches of the evil Spaceballs.I don't really know why this parody/possible ripoff of Star Wars exists but this thing is so bizarre that it's funny. 7/10
- DirectorKenny OrtegaStarsZac EfronVanessa HudgensAshley TisdaleAs seniors in high school, Troy and Gabriella struggle with the idea of being separated from one another as college approaches. Along with the rest of the Wildcats, they stage a spring musical to address their experiences, hopes and fears about their future. This is definitely not as good as the second movie but better than the first one. The story is pretty relatable but the songs for the most part aren't something to scream about. The characters are mostly pretty good but Sharpay's bullcrap got really old by the time this movie came around. Also, what the hell happened to all of Ryan's development in the second movie? He was more of an individual there but here he's back to following his sister like she's the queen of the goddamn world. It's really old at this point. Still a pretty enjoyable movie overall though. 7/10
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordKate CapshawKe Huy QuanIn 1935, Indiana Jones is tasked by Indian villagers with reclaiming a rock stolen from them by a secret cult beneath the catacombs of an ancient palace. While I do like this movie, it is just clearly not as good as Raiders or Crusade. My biggest problems is Willie and Short-round. Willie doesn't help anything and all she does is whine, scream, and flirt with Indy. Short-round does do more but he is still pretty annoying. Sadly, these two take up quite a bit of the movie so my one problem is a big problem. That being said though, this was still a fun movie to watch and jokes that come at the expense of Willie are actually pretty funny. The action is still thrilling and it is a fun adventure. Overall, good movie, but not as good as Raiders or Crusade. 7/10
- DirectorKenny OrtegaStarsZac EfronVanessa HudgensAshley TisdaleA popular high school athlete and an academically gifted girl get roles in the school musical and develop a friendship that threatens East High's social order. This movie is really, really dumb. The story is cliche and has sloppy pacing, the villain is a cliche mean girl whose turn around is way too quick, and some parts feel very staged. However, this movie is strangely enjoyable. Troy and Gabriela are pretty likeable, the musical numbers are enjoyable, some of the choreography is pretty well-done, and Gabriela and Troy are kind of cute together. It was just as dumb as I was expecting but not nearly as bad. In fact, it was actually kind of enjoyable. 6.5/10

While it could be better, it's overall dumb fun. 6.5/10
- DirectorDavid CarsonStarsAngela BettisPatricia ClarksonRena SoferCarrie White is a lonely and painfully shy teenage girl with telekinetic powers who is slowly pushed to the edge of insanity by frequent bullying from both her classmates and her domineering, religious mother.Despite the obvious low-budget, I was actually getting into the movie at first. I like that it shows the rain of stones, the telekinesis is shown really creatively, I felt just as much sympathy for Carrie as I do in every version, and I really loved these versions of Margaret, Desjarden, and Sue. My only real issue before the prom scene was that the movie was a little padded. However, the movie really starts to go downhill once it reaches the prom scene. First of all, the blood looks nothing like blood and second, Carrie not being in control of her actions during the massacre misses the whole point of the story. With that small change, a story about an abused girl getting bloody, cathartic revenge becomes a story about a girl who accidentally kills people and that's just not as interesting. Yeah, the town destruction is really cool too but Carrie surviving also pissed me off. It's not nearly as bad as Carrie not being in control of her actions but it's still a shitty ending. Overall, a decent flick but probably not one I'd rewatch, not when there are other, better versions. 6.5/10
- DirectorStephen ChboskyStarsJacob TremblayOwen WilsonIzabela VidovicBased on the New York Times bestseller, this movie tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters the fifth grade, attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time.I've never read this book (that seems to be a theme this year so far) but I think this movie was pretty decent. The characters are endearing, it has some funny moments and it is a strong story with a good moral. It's only real shortcomings are that it's a bit too sentimental and predictable. 6.5/10
- DirectorJeannot SzwarcStarsDudley MooreJohn LithgowDavid HuddlestonThe legend of Santa Claus is placed into jeopardy when an unscrupulous toy manufacturer attempts to take over Christmas. This is a stupid but there's nothing inherently awful about it and there are the rare moments of laughter.
- DirectorMichael LembeckStarsTim AllenSpencer BreslinElizabeth MitchellScott Calvin has been a humble Santa Claus for eight years, but it might come to an end if he doesn't find a Mrs. Claus. This was also a stupid movie and the leaps in logic this movie takes are too much to take seriously. 5/10
- DirectorAndrew NiccolStarsEthan HawkeUma ThurmanJude LawA genetically inferior man assumes the identity of a superior one in order to pursue his lifelong dream of space travel. This movie really didn't do a thing for me. It had no stand out elements and the only things that gave me much of a reaction were the pointless romance and the honestly poorly choreographed fight scene (it felt a bit too stagey to me, I don't know why.) However, this movie isn't bad or anything. It's fairly well made and told it just didn't do much for me personally. I can see other people liking it though. 5/10
- DirectorMike JoensGerry ChiniquyRay LeeStarsDanny DeVitoMadeline KahnCloris LeachmanPonyland comes under attack from the Smooze, a massive purple ooze created by an evil witch who plans to destroy the ponies' annual spring festival.I'm not one for hating on the older generations of MLP but that doesn't change the fact that this movie just isn't that good. The story is unfocused and cluttered with too many subplots and needless filler, most of the characters are annoying or bland, the editing is incohesive, and the songs are bad. I will give credit to the animation and some of it's creativity but it's overall not good. 4.5/10
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris HemsworthMark RuffaloThe Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.Yes, really. I did not like this movie. In fact, I kind of hated it. It was way overly depressing, which is jarring and feels out of place in the Marvel universe. If you think Guardians of the Galaxy 2 had too many feels this was way worse. I mean, killing off a fan favorite character in the first five minutes and casually pushing another off a cliff, that's what bothered me the most. However, that ending is the most mind-boggling thing ever. Without giving away too much, the only way the heroes can rectify what happened is to literally erase everything that happened which makes this feel pointless to me and it seems doubtful that Marvel will keep most of the effects of what happened permanent. If the next part can resolve this in a more creative way I might cut this movie more slack but that leads to my next problem. This is only half of a story which makes it awkward to review because the story isn't done yet and there is no resolution to this movie to make it it's own movie. It can't stand on its own. It is also so forced. There are about a million ways to stop what happened despite what Doctor Strange says. For example, Doctor Strange could've sent Thanos to the mirror dimension or the falling dimension or used the time stone on him and reverse his time like he did in his own movie. That makes his decision toward the end make even less sense and makes the story extremely forced. It really felt like certain things just happened or didn't happen because Marvel wanted a depressing ending. Also, this is just a personal gripe but there are some scenes (particularly the opening scene) that were too dark to see. So does that mean I didn't like anything in this movie? No. There are some good aspects. I didn't like this movie but it is a well made movie all technical things considered. It tells a clear HALF of a story, it had good cinematography, acting, and effects, the characters are well defined, and none of them are out of character (except debatably Loki.) Overall, this movie is technically good but I hate everything that happens in it. I'm not giving this movie a star rating for this reason. My gripes with it are kind of personal since it's very hard for me to view this movie objectively.
