- DirectorMike CahillStarsBrit MarlingWilliam MapotherMatthew-Lee ErlbachOn the night of the discovery of a duplicate Earth in the Solar system, an ambitious young student and an accomplished composer cross paths in a tragic accident.the reason that this is my favorite film of 2011 is because i love science fiction drama films just like close encounters, the pacing is excellent, acting incredible from Brit Marling i love the ending everything in this film was awesome it shows that you don't need a big explosive action science fiction or a to confusing science fiction it has a deeper meaning than having a second chance i love this movie
- DirectorHwang Dong-hyukStarsGong YooJung Yu-miKim Hyeon-sooBased on real events, this film depicts the story of a school for the hearing-impaired where young deaf students were sexually assaulted by the faculty members over a long period of time. Please someone needs to see this film for its raw and it ambition towards a subject matter and is both unbelievable and surreal events that have actual happen in society today. When people say some films are hard to watch they most defiantly haven't seen one of the most fearful scenes involving multiple men being not only physical hurting small and innocent children but also molesting both young girls and a young boy. The film shows it, and really isn't there for shock it is show how evil one can become when taking an opportunity to take advantage of young children is an absolute hard experience to watch. The films is beyond most of going for that happy ending everyone is aspecting and when it is on screen it will make evil out of you and towards the end it lightens up to become a more pure example of true childhood happiness but in the end of the film the places it explores to see these terrible men do this things all you want is for the these children to be happy. The film is brilliant in its portray of a drama that has a 2 hour run time make it feel like an experience. This is 100% a knockout of a film mixed with captivating performances from all the old and young actors to director and screenplay. And the film itself is riveting in a way that will never be describe with words. Go see it now, on Netflix. And if you don't have please I urge to see one movie on there it has to be this one.
- DirectorYimou ZhangStarsChristian BaleNi NiXinyi ZhangAn American finds refuge during the 1937 Japanese invasion of Nanking in a church with a group of women. Posing as a priest, he attempts to lead the women to safety.wow i am still blown away i had no ideal that this will be my favorite film of 2011 and beat out Another Earth but it did and wow is an amazing film 2011 wasn't the best year but i didn't meet my Inception of the year yes Another Earth was close but this is my true Inception of the year this movie has a lot to say about the war and the people that it has affective in that time and the many people it has scared and it is one of the moments that is to be thankful that we live in a time where we are not forced to do anything we don't want to do and everything in this movie is beautiful some of the best acting of the year and a truly moving movie with also some realistic battle scenes that are really touching and the ending is amazing my only problem with the film is i wish it could be longer because it is one of those movies where you don't want it to end this is a great film that i will never forget
- DirectorMichaël R. RoskamStarsMatthias SchoenaertsJeroen PercevalJeanne DandoySint-Truiden, Belgium. Jacky, a young cattle farmer who is constantly pumped on steroids and hormones, is approached by a veterinarian to make a deal with a notorious beef trader.Matthias Schoenaerts really has proven to be in a performance that requires a raw, and haunting performance that will change an actor into incrediblity in a flash. But the movie is something you have never seen into a brilliant crime drama that couldn't be better. The pacing, the cruel intense scene including a young child being beaten by a rock in the gentials is one of the most affecting scenes, and brutal that could rock you in a way that is unforgettable. Absolutely one of the years best films. Could not love it any more.
- DirectorOlivier NakacheÉric ToledanoStarsFrançois CluzetOmar SyAnne Le NyAfter he becomes a quadriplegic from a paragliding accident, an aristocrat hires a young man from the projects to be his caregiver.I count it as a 2011 film but no matter what year this great magifenct film came out it is without a doubt very deserves to be in the IMDb top 250 films because it is so good and really funny and really touching a truly great film
- DirectorJonathan LevineStarsJoseph Gordon-LevittSeth RogenAnna KendrickInspired by a true story, a comedy centered on a 27-year-old guy who learns of his cancer diagnosis and his subsequent struggle to beat the disease. For me it is hard to think a comedy will be in front a foreign film and let alone a Seth Rogen Comedy but him and Joseph Gordon-Levitt not only is the movie but he owns it to bring not only one of the funniest films of the year but certainty a bliss filled movie with both heart and raw. Great stuff.
- DirectorJean-Pierre DardenneLuc DardenneStarsThomas DoretCécile de FranceJérémie RenierAbandoned by his father, a young boy is left in a state-run youth farm. In a random act of kindness, the town hairdresser agrees to foster him on weekends. The first french feature in my top 10 are the same guys who made the pretentious and boring The Son but I thought what that film was missing is in here an example of how forgiveness is not a way to become a stalking present like the main character in The Son who just walks around for the whole film no this films takes no time to explore each character through the eyes of a stubborn character held by Thomas Doret. The act of kindness is a way to showcase a true way of exploring characters in way a few directors can. Big step up and truly got actors to play those parts. Love Cécile De France for her courage for bringing to table in this movie and she is great.
- DirectorSean DurkinStarsElizabeth OlsenSarah PaulsonJohn HawkesHaunted by painful memories and increasing paranoia, a damaged woman struggles to re-assimilate with her family after fleeing an abusive cult. When a film this mysterious, this hard to identify in it with its ideas and atmosphere you get the sense with a screenplay this simple you find to understand that it is all on the shoulders of Elizabeth Olsen owns this movie. Just like 2010's Winter's Bone but she didn't get nominated. This screenplay is nothing about anything but her atmosphere her conditions and her worrys. It is her film and the film is equally as mind blowing as ever an indie film can be. Smart, increasingly engaging throughout the whole film. Superb acting, but only Brit Marling gave a much more better example but this is an hell of a film.
- DirectorTerrence MalickStarsBrad PittSean PennJessica ChastainThe story of a family in Waco, Texas in 1956. The eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence and struggles with his parents' conflicting teachings.Don't get it. Sure. Blah blah "I don't get art house films". That is what that *beep* 59% users on Rotten Tomatoes have been saying ever since this film exploded in 2011 when it first came out. And never have I ever felt much a more increasing viewing upon human life like Terrence Malick's captivating and incredible acting and directing film that is way better than The Dark Knight. It is a more incredible human drama than most films this regular audience that doesn't get this homily view upon life in this earth as we were born and left on this earth to die. Great movie, great acting and incredible visuals, Kubrick will be blown away. But then again it was 2011 and 2001 came out in 1968.
- DirectorLars von TrierStarsKirsten DunstCharlotte GainsbourgKiefer SutherlandTwo sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide with Earth.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsJeremy IrvineEmily WatsonDavid ThewlisA young farm boy enlists to serve in World War I after his beloved horse is sold to the cavalry. His hopeful journey takes him out of England and onto the front lines as the war rages on.Again people are just hung up the idea of that it is just over two hours watching a horse. And melodrama music doesn't help it just makes it boring. So sure if you want to call Spielberg's incredible knockout a film melodrama with an over pounding score than fine go ahead but guess what you will be missing out on a great film filled with adventure excitement and some of the intense scenes coming from a PG-13 rating but it is more than that next Spielberg Classic it is this new born classic that will sit with you and your heart forever. To bad no one else will notice.
- DirectorPaddy ConsidineStarsPeter MullanArchie LalJag SangheraJoseph, a man plagued by violence and a rage that is driving him to self-destruction, earns a chance of redemption that appears in the form of Hannah, a Christian charity shop worker.
- DirectorSteve McQueenStarsMichael FassbenderCarey MulliganJames Badge DaleA sex addict's carefully cultivated private life falls apart after his sister arrives for an indefinite stay.
- DirectorLynne RamsayStarsTilda SwintonJohn C. ReillyEzra MillerKevin's mother struggles to love her strange child despite the increasingly dangerous things he says and does as he grows up. But Kevin is just getting started, and his final act will be beyond anything anyone imagined.
- DirectorNicolas Winding RefnStarsRyan GoslingCarey MulliganBryan CranstonA mysterious Hollywood action film stuntman gets in trouble with gangsters when he tries to help his neighbor's husband rob a pawn shop while serving as his getaway driver. It is hard not to put this on my top ten where everyone has it in there favorites of 2011, but look at the other films in front of it. To me those films have a more stronger effect upon having a more deeper sense in on ideas and characters that have a much more present to be in a movie. However I still love this film, the thrills the kills the way Refn uses the soundtrack much more of a way to explain as settle and gentle in the beginning but it changes when all hell breaks lose and turns into in a one day fight for life thrill with a score that is so much trawling in adrenaline it is cinematic force that didn't stop.
