- DirectorJohn VernonStarsLesley CollierAnthony DowellMichael ColemanAlthough the set design and most of the costumes are remarkably like the later Royal Ballet Peter Wright productions, (2001 and 2009) many tiny details are different. While the production design is quite elaborate, much of the action is staged in a simpler manner than in Wright's later versions; for instance, the grandfather in the wheelchair has even less to do than in the later version, the angel that appears to Clara is on the staircase instead of next to the Christmas tree, and no St. Nicholas appears at the Christmas Party to distribute candies. Wright himself has stated that of all his "Nutcracker" productions, this one is the closest to the original. The story is the same as in the standard version of the ballet, with nothing really added to it, except that, as in many Russian versions and the Baryshnikov one, Clara and the Nutcracker Prince (Hans-Peter) are played by adults, not children. Clara's costume once she sneaks downstairs after the Christmas party is completely different from the one worn by the later Claras - she does not seem to be wearing a nightgown, but a full-fledged dress. In Act II, Clara and Hans-Peter (Drosselmeyer's nephew, who was formerly the Nutcracker) do not take part in the dances at the Sugar Plum Fairy's kingdom, as they do in the later Royal Ballet versions. The ending is almost completely different from the later Royal Ballet versions. Although we see Drosselmeyer and Hans-Peter reunited in the workshop (indicating that the fantasy events were real), there is no indication that Clara and Hans-Peter meet up again in the real world, or that they will be reunited as a couple, as in the later Peter Wright Royal Ballet versions. Drosselmeyer is noticeably grimmer in this production than in the later Royal Ballet versions. He never once smiles, and never seems to be really enjoying himself.

Vainonen's colourful production and Virsaladze's stunning designs make this as magical and memorable a Christmas treat as ever. Masha is given a nutcracker on Christmas Eve as a gift from her godfather Drosselmeyer. She dreams of a battle led by the Nutcracker toy soldier against an army of mice. With her help, the Nutcracker emerges victorious and is transformed into a prince. He and Masha travel through a pine forest to the Kingdom of Sweets, where the sugar plum fairy holds a magnificent entertainment.

- DirectorYvon GéraultStarsLarisa LezhninaViktor BaranovPiotr RussanovThis is a revival of a production first staged in Russia in 1934, before the complete "Nutcracker" was ever performed in the United States. It was choreographed by Vassili Vainonen, and was, from several accounts, highly influential. Despite what a user review says about this production, there are no real children in it; all the boys, including Masha's brother Fritz, are played by adult women in male drag. The costumes are from the 1954 revival of the Vainonen production. Mikhail Baryshnikov borrowed many of Vainonen's ideas for his famous staging of the ballet, such as the puppet show at the Christmas Party in Act I. Like Vainonen and another choreographer before him, Baryshnikov borrowed the idea of having the Nutcracker and Clara (Masha in this case) played by adult dancers rather than children, and letting them dance the final Pas de Deux instead of it being danced by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, who do not appear in this version. Vainonen's idea of Masha touching the dancers at the Prince's court in order to bring them to life was also borrowed by Baryshnikov, as was some of Vainonen's actual choreography.
- DirectorYelena MacheretStarsYekaterina MaksimovaVladimir VasilevVladimir LevashevTchaikovsky composed "The Nutcracker" during four months in 1891. A large part of the ballet was written at sea on a journey from Europe to the United States. Perhaps the most beloved of all ballets, "The Nutcracker" had its premiere at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg in 1892. Based on Hoffman's fairy tale, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King", the beloved classical ballet takes place one Christmas Eve in a nineteenth century Russian town. Uncle Drosselmeyer, a conjurer and magician, delights the entire family with tricks and magic gifts. He gives Marie, his young niece, a rather plain looking doll in a red uniform. Marie loves the doll which has an unusual mouth ("...so strong it can crack nuts") -a toy mechanical nutcracker. Marie's brother breaks the doll in jealousy, and Uncle Drosselmeyer places it under the Christmas tree to mend. Marie falls asleep under the tree with her broken doll in her arms and enters a dream world where the Christmas tree shoots up to the sky and all the toys come alive.

- DirectorJeff TudorStarsAnna TysgankovaMatthew GoldingJames StoutGoing to see Nutcracker with the whole family has been a tradition in other countries for many years. Now it is a tradition in the Netherlands as well. It became apparent that the Netherlands had also adopted this tradition in 1996, when the Dutch National Ballet presented its own version of the famous fairytale ballet. It is a magical production that has won the hearts of more than 250,000 people to date. Choreographers Toer van Schayk and Wayne Eagling created a Nutcracker for the children and adults of today. It is more dynamic and exciting, and less sweet than usual. They also chose to give a Dutch twist to their interpretation of the story, with skaters on the canals and a living room that transforms into a snowy forest. Unlike the original story, the production by Eagling and Van Schayk (who also designed the delightful sets and costumes) does not take place on Christmas Eve in a German town, but during St. Nicholas celebrations in Amsterdam, around 1810.
