- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsMatthew ModineR. Lee ErmeyVincent D'OnofrioA pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow recruits from their brutal boot camp training to the bloody street fighting in Hue.10/10. Searing war film featuring Kubrick's characteristically meticulous style. I discover something new every time I watch it.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsKirk DouglasRalph MeekerAdolphe MenjouAfter a failed attack on a German position, a general orders three soldiers, chosen at random, court-martialed for cowardice and their commanding officer must defend them.9/10. Another great war film from Kubrick. Kirk Douglas is amazing.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsMalcolm McDowellPatrick MageeMichael BatesIn the future, a sadistic gang leader is imprisoned and volunteers for a conduct-aversion experiment, but it doesn't go as planned.9/10. Hyper violent and thematically dense commentary on violence in the media.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsTom CruiseNicole KidmanTodd FieldA Manhattan doctor embarks on a bizarre, night-long odyssey after his wife's admission of unfulfilled longing.8/10. The aesthetics of Kubrick's last film is best described as a master craftsman at the peak of his creative abilities. The film is dense and complicated, but rewards frequent viewings in it's cold and detached way of analyzing monogamy, obsession, and guilt.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsRyan O'NealMarisa BerensonPatrick MageeAn Irish rogue wins the heart of a rich widow and assumes her dead husband's aristocratic position in 18th-century England.8/10. While it is ostensibly shallow on the surface, upon reflection Barry Lyndon is a characteristically complex Kubrick film. The director manages to make a three hour film without any redeeming characters absolutely engaging and the subtle commentary on the destructive nature of high society and facades is quite brilliant.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsKeir DulleaGary LockwoodWilliam SylvesterAfter uncovering a mysterious artifact buried beneath the Lunar surface, a spacecraft is sent to Jupiter to find its origins: a spacecraft manned by two men and the supercomputer HAL 9000.8/10. Very obtuse film that rewards multiple viewings. Encourages the viewer to come to their own conclusions. Great visuals. 2001 is deceptively simple and yet also about so much at the same time.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsJack NicholsonShelley DuvallDanny LloydA family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where a sinister presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from both past and future.8/10. Largely an atmospheric and ambiguous descent in pure terror. The film is let down somewhat by the two leads but Kubrick's sure handed direction and memorable imagery make this a legitimate excursion into surreal horror.

ScottSterling HaydenAn unhinged American general orders a bombing attack on the Soviet Union, triggering a path to nuclear holocaust that a war room full of politicians and generals frantically tries to stop.7/10. Very dry and dark satire about nuclear war. Some moments are laugh out loud hilarious, even though I don't think it's consistently funny.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsSterling HaydenColeen GrayVince EdwardsCrook Johnny Clay assembles a five-man team to plan and execute a daring racetrack robbery.7/10. Very stylistic film noir. Great structure and performances.
- DirectorStanley KubrickAnthony MannStarsKirk DouglasLaurence OlivierJean SimmonsThe slave Spartacus survives brutal training as a gladiator and leads a violent revolt against the decadent Roman Republic, as the ambitious Crassus seeks to gain power by crushing the uprising.7/10. The most decidedly anti-Kubrickian film in Kubrick's filmography, Spartacus is still an entertaining and well made picture about fighting for freedom.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsJames MasonShelley WintersSue LyonA middle-aged college professor becomes infatuated with a 14-year-old girl.7/10. While Lolita is far too long and somewhat neutered by the restrictive Hayes Code, it is still a worthwhile and admirable exercise in subtlety. Performances are strong, the film is often funny, and the scandalous nature of the material requires a layered approach which is actually quite rewarding.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsFrank SilveraIrene KaneJamie SmithReady to catch a train to his hometown, a washed-up boxer tells us about the strange and twisty events that happened to him the past couple of days.6/10. Aside from the great ending and the typical Kubrickian touches, largely forgettable and fleeting.
