- DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Gwyneth PaltrowTerrence HowardAfter being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil.Iron Man is a perfect start to this franchise. Robert Downey Jr is perfect casting and he leads this hilarious, action packed, and heartfelt film perfectly. Tony's arc is perfectly told and the start of his relationship with Pepper is always fun to revisit. It's an incredible movie and started off this amazing franchise.
- DirectorLouis LeterrierStarsEdward NortonLiv TylerTim RothBruce Banner, a scientist on the run from the U.S. Government, must find a cure for the monster he turns into whenever he loses his temper.I mean this is the movie the MCU likes to pretend never happened for a reason. It's not awful but it doesn't really offer anything good and the recast of Norton to Ruffalo just makes this film weird. Easily the worst thing out of this franchise so far.
- DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Mickey RourkeGwyneth PaltrowWith the world now aware of his identity as Iron Man, Tony Stark must contend with both his declining health and a vengeful mad man with ties to his father's legacy.Iron Man 2 isn't nearly as good as the original one but there's still a lot of good stuff. Downey and Paltrow are still hilarious together, Scarlett Johanson makes her first MCU appearance and there are some fun action scenes throughout. It's one of the weaker MCU entries but it's by no means a bad film.
- DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsChris HemsworthAnthony HopkinsNatalie PortmanThe powerful but arrogant god Thor is cast out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.Thor is a pretty good MCU film. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston both nail their characters from the start. It's a hilarious fish out of water comedy that tells a very good and very deep story. This film succeeds with everything it's going for.
- DirectorJoe JohnstonStarsChris EvansHugo WeavingSamuel L. JacksonSteve Rogers, a rejected military soldier, transforms into Captain America after taking a dose of a "Super-Soldier serum". But being Captain America comes at a price as he attempts to take down a warmonger and a terrorist organization. This is a great MCU movie and it's definitely the most underrated in the franchise. The character work for not only Cap but also Peggy is incredible. It's a great heartfelt and emotional origin story.
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansScarlett JohanssonEarth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity. This is a perfect first Avengers film. Bringing all these characters together was a risky move but Marvel exceeded all expectations. The whole cast bounces off each other perfectly with both the comedic and serious moments. The final battle is incredible and this is easily one of the best MCU films.
- DirectorShane BlackStarsRobert Downey Jr.Guy PearceGwyneth PaltrowWhen Tony Stark's world is torn apart by a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin, he starts an odyssey of rebuilding and retribution. All the development with Tony is great, but the rest of the movie kind of falls flat. The villain is a let down but this is still a totally enjoyable film that I prefer over Iron Man 2.
- DirectorAlan TaylorStarsChris HemsworthNatalie PortmanTom HiddlestonWhen the Dark Elves attempt to plunge the universe into darkness, Thor must embark on a perilous and personal journey that will reunite him with doctor Jane Foster.Thor 2 is kind of a snooze fest. There's some good stuff like whenever Thor and Loki share a scene and anything with Darcy but the film is pretty boring and the villain is probably the worst in the whole series. I don't think it's the worst in the series but it's towards the bottom.
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansSamuel L. JacksonScarlett JohanssonAs Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world, he teams up with a fellow Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D agent, Black Widow, to battle a new threat from history: an assassin known as the Winter Soldier. This is the best non team up movie in the franchise. Everything about this film is incredible. Cap's arc in this film is expertly done and having him go on his mission with Black Widow was perfect. Evans and Johansson have great chemistry and all their scenes are great. The Hydra twist was excellent and the action scenes are top notch.
- DirectorJames GunnStarsChris PrattVin DieselBradley CooperA group of intergalactic criminals must pull together to stop a fanatical warrior with plans to purge the universe.A comedy about a group of space misfits listening to eighties music and staring Chris Pratt from Parks and Recreation was not what people were expecting from this franchise but this movie turned out to be one of the best in the MCU. The humor, music, action, and characters were all great and the message this movie sends is so powerful.
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansMark RuffaloWhen Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plan.Ah Age of Ultron, everyone's least favorite Avengers film. This film isn't awful but it's so stuffed with setting up future plot lines that it doesn't really have much time to get us to care or focus on the main plot of this movie. The Hulk and Black Widow romance makes zero sense but we do get Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda for the first time in the franchise here so it's not the worst in the franchise.
- DirectorPeyton ReedStarsPaul RuddMichael DouglasCorey StollArmed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, pull off a plan that will save the world.Paul Rudd does a great job of bringing this fun and wacky character to life. This is a fun origin story and the movie takes full advantage of the shrinking powers. There are a lot of hilarious scenes and great character moments.
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansRobert Downey Jr.Scarlett JohanssonPolitical involvement in the Avengers' affairs causes a rift between Captain America and Iron Man.One of the best movies in the series. The natural build up to the fight is incredible. The tensions rising between the heroes is so great but also so hard to watch at the same time. The airport fight and the end fight between Cap, Bucky, and Tony were both incredible. This film also does a great job of introducing Black Panther and Spider-Man.
- DirectorScott DerricksonStarsBenedict CumberbatchChiwetel EjioforRachel McAdamsWhile on a journey of physical and spiritual healing, a brilliant neurosurgeon is drawn into the world of the mystic arts. This movie is pretty average to me. I think Cumberbatch is great as Dr.Strange but this movie just didn't do the character justice. It's a pretty generic origin story and there's nothing that really makes it stand out. The villains are lame and the humor is pretty unfunny. There are some great visuals but this movie just didn't do it for me.
- DirectorJames GunnStarsChris PrattZoe SaldanaDave BautistaThe Guardians struggle to keep together as a team while dealing with their personal family issues, notably Star-Lord's encounter with his father, the ambitious celestial being Ego.This is an amazing sequel to the first film. We get so many more layers to Peter and we get to see so much more of the relationship between Gamora and Nebula. The best part of this film is how it takes Yondu from being a generic one note character to an awesome character that you cry for.
- DirectorJon WattsStarsTom HollandMichael KeatonRobert Downey Jr.Peter Parker balances his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens with his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man, and finds himself on the trail of a new menace prowling the skies of New York City. This is a great Spider Man movie. Tom Holland plays Peter like an actual relatable teenager like we haven't seen on screen before. This is one of the funniest movies in the MCU and we get some of the best emotional scenes in the franchise. Vulture is also one of the best villains that we've seen in any superhero movie.
- DirectorTaika WaititiStarsChris HemsworthTom HiddlestonCate BlanchettImprisoned on the planet Sakaar, Thor must race against time to return to Asgard and stop Ragnarök, the destruction of his world, at the hands of the powerful and ruthless villain Hela. This is how to do a Thor film. I think the first Thor film is pretty good and the second one is alright but this is a perfect Thor movie. It's a more upbeat comedic film that really lets the cast show off their comedic talent. Hemsworth, Hiddleston, and Ruffalo do some of their best work here and Tessa Thompson's, Valkyrie was a great new hero to this franchise and this film introduced her perfectly. Hela is also another great villain for the MCU.
- DirectorRyan CooglerStarsChadwick BosemanMichael B. JordanLupita Nyong'oT'Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda, must step forward to lead his people into a new future and must confront a challenger from his country's past. This is one of the most serious and deep films in the MCU. The best thing about this film is the villain, Killmonger. All his scenes are perfection. He actually impacts the characters and Black Panther has his story arc by the end of the film because Killmonger actually changed his morals. The late great Chadwick Boseman played Black Panther perfectly and the continuation of his story from Civil War was excellently done.
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris HemsworthMark RuffaloThe Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe. How Marvel managed to take all their characters and blend them perfectly is crazy. This is an incredible movie in every aspect. Every hero gets their chance to shine. Thanos has been built up to forever and he still managed to exceed expectations. Thanos is one of the best villains to ever be put to screen. He's a character that wants to murder half the universe and you still feel bad for him. This movie is so sad and I cried over like 4 character deaths. Absolute perfection.
- DirectorPeyton ReedStarsPaul RuddEvangeline LillyMichael PeñaAs Scott Lang balances being both a superhero and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past. It's a pretty fun and enjoyable movie. Paul Rudd continues to nail playing Ant-Man and the Wasp is a pretty fun character too. It's not one of the best MCU movies but it's still a really good smaller scaled adventure.
- DirectorAnna BodenRyan FleckStarsBrie LarsonSamuel L. JacksonBen MendelsohnCarol Danvers becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.I don't think Brie Larson was the right choice to play this character. She's kind of bland in this role but that could just be the boring writing. It's a fine generic film but the MCU can do way better with the character in the future.
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansMark RuffaloAfter the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the universe is in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to reverse Thanos' actions and restore balance to the universe.10/10. The way they ended the stories for the original characters is perfect. Iron Man, Cap, and Black Widow all got incredible endings. This movie made me get goosebumps, cry tears of joy, cry sad tears, laugh out loud, and cheer multiple times throughout. The whole movie is perfection but that last battle against Thanos especially is. This movie also should've won the best score at the Oscars. This film also finally got me to care about Hawkeye and his story after all these years. I'll never forget watching this in a packed theater on opening night.
- DirectorJon WattsStarsTom HollandSamuel L. JacksonJake GyllenhaalFollowing the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.I think this is a very solid Spider Man movie. It's funny and the visuals especially when Spidey fights Mysterio are great. I think Tom Holland does a great job with the character once again and the whole cast are great in their roles. My biggest problem is how this film struggles with making Spider Man his own hero and then constantly making references to him being like Iron Man. I really enjoy the movie but the message is kind of all over the place so it's not one of my absolute favorites.
- DirectorCate ShortlandStarsScarlett JohanssonFlorence PughDavid HarbourNatasha Romanoff confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. This is one of my favorite Marvel movies. The beginning of the movie was the darkest thing the mcu has ever done, it was terrifying and tragic but so wonderfully done. The family dynamic was so heartfelt and emotional. I love that we finally got to see Natasha's full past and seeing her confront it is so satisfying. This movie has some top notch action and the musical choices like that cover of Teen Spirit in the beginning and American Pie being a recurring song were powerful. Florence Pugh as Yelena is also a wonderful addition to this franchise and became an instant fan favorite for a reason.
- DirectorDestin Daniel CrettonStarsSimu LiuAwkwafinaTony Leung Chiu-waiShang-Chi, the master of weaponry-based Kung Fu, is forced to confront his past after being drawn into the Ten Rings organization. This movie was alright. There was some cool action and funny moments but overall it was just average. I felt like the visuals were kind of off and I felt like the movie kind of dragged on and made it feel really long. I think that Wenwu is a top tier mcu villain and I thought his character was explored very well, and the dynamic with Shang Chi and Katy was the hilight of the film for me. I enjoyed myself but overall it wasn't anything great.
- DirectorChloé ZhaoStarsGemma ChanRichard MaddenAngelina JolieThe saga of the Eternals, a race of immortal beings who lived on Earth and shaped its history and civilizations. This was a decent film. It has massive scope and ambition but the characters aren't fleshed out enough to have us care about them. This is a more serious movie that wants you to think which is something rare for the mcu and it does play with you interesting ways but nothing that's really memorable. There is some really cool action and on a visual level this is the most beautiful movie in the mcu. So overall it's a good watch but nothing great.
- DirectorJon WattsStarsTom HollandZendayaBenedict CumberbatchWith Spider-Man's identity now revealed, Peter asks Doctor Strange for help. When a spell goes wrong, dangerous foes from other worlds start to appear, forcing Peter to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.I don't even know how to begin to review this movie. It's straight up perfection on every level. Tom Holland fully embraces the role in a truly wonderful and dark story. The fights are personal and gritty, the jokes all land, and the emotion is there 100%. All the multiverse characters are phenomenal. Green Goblin is the standout of the villains and his final fight with Spidey is everything a fan could want. Seeing the three spider men working together was unreal. The three had great chemistry and their emotional moment together talking about what they've lost hit so hard. Seeing Andrew's Spider Man catch MJ as redemption for not catching Gwen brought tears to my eyes. And the movie ends on a high note with that incredible new suit getting you ready for what comes next in his story now that Tom really feels like Spider Man.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsBenedict CumberbatchElizabeth OlsenChiwetel EjioforDoctor Strange teams up with a mysterious teenage girl who can travel across multiverses, to battle other-universe versions of himself which threaten to wipe out the multiverse. They seek help from the Scarlet Witch, Wong and others.Benedict Cumberbatch does an incredible job as Doctor Strange just as always but I feel like there was too much going on in this movie to really get a solid character arc for him despite him being the star. How Elizabeth Olsen manages to top her previous performance every time she plays Scarlet Witch is incredible. She does such a great job as the villain in this story and she is genuinely terrifying while also being the same loving Wanda we've fallen in love with over the years. The scene at the end where she lets her alternate self have the kids and she just breaks down is so powerful and got me to tear up. Her death scene was also well handled but I highly doubt she's actually dead and I hope we see her again real soon. However her turn to evil in the beginning felt rushed once again due to the runtime. This movie has lots of great elements but it was to short to flesh them out which is what really hinders the film. Overall it's a solid mcu entry but not one of the absolute best films.
- DirectorTaika WaititiStarsChris HemsworthNatalie PortmanChristian BaleThor enlists the help of Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster to fight Gorr the God Butcher, who intends to make the gods extinct. This movie doubles down on the humor and craziness of Ragnarok but unfortunately the jokes are pretty hit or miss, however the movie is still pretty solid overall. This film is by far the best at displaying Thor and Jane's relationship and their chemistry is off the charts. Speaking of Jane, Natalie Portman steals the show in this movie. Jane's cancer storyline is so beautiful and tragic and her death scene got me to shed a tear. Christian Bale's villain, Gorr was also fantastic and one of the scariest mcu baddies we've ever seen. Tessa Thompson also once again shines as Valkyrie but she took a sideline to Thor and Jane when is comes to character development this time around. This movie has tonal issues and could probably benefit from another 20 minutes to flesh out the story but it got the most important things right and is still quite a fun summer blockbuster.
