John Wayne
Favorite movies of his in order (top 25). My list is based on which movies I like, there are a few of his movies that to me are way overrated, especially Baby Face & The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. He was barely in Baby Face so that movie is getting propped up by feminists. For Valance, I'm not a fan of Jimmy Stewart for this type of movie, he just doesn't come across as credible.
I recently watched or re-watched all the movies I've rated, at 88 right now & these are my top 25. I haven't seen a few of his best because they haven't aired on tv or I missed it, notably The Longest Day, 3 Godfathers, The Long Voyage Home & The Big Trail.
Comparing to Clint Eastwood movies, I prefer Clint's overall. The spaghetti westerns were superior to most of Wayne's westerns, just more watchable & not as cheesy (especially the over the top female characters put in for feminists & the constant addition of some musician for ratings I'm assuming, a better actor in that role may have made for a better movie). Even more modern films like Pale Rider & Unforgiven would be in Wayne's top 10 for me. As for the non-westerns, Clint's Dirty Harry series & his directed movies surpass most of Wayne's work. That's just my opinion, I'm sure the older than me generation thinks differently.
I want my westerns with good men & bad men, the women should be such a small role as they played a small role in reality, unfortunately the feminists have started demanding they be more involved in everything, you can't even have a male-centric movie anymore, but you sure can have a female-centric movie, they come out every week.
Hallmark does this with females today, they are bitchy, angry & hate men, but somehow the main man in the movie loves this woman. It's pathetic that was forced on Wayne for so many years & he rarely had a nice woman playing his love interest. Maybe Wayne wanted this in his movies, thinking it was a way to bring in the female audience, but it's sad that was needed. Women must be a feminist & angry at the world for women to watch, I refuse to believe the majority of women were this bad. To be fair, he did like hotheads in real life as he married them & almost got killed by one.
Some of his worst movies based on the ones I've watched have been In Old Oklahoma, Flame of Barbary Coast, Dakota, The Hurricane Express, The Man from Utah & The Barbarian & the Geisha. Apparently The Conqueror is really bad, just haven't seen it yet, not to mention the 91 people who got cancer from that movie, almost like it was done on purpose to get rid of the non-Communists in Hollywood.
Some of the underrated movies that I liked better than others are The Train Robbers (I prefer the older Wayne character who didn't take so much crap from the females), Angel & the Badman, The Wings of Eagles, The Cowboys, Island in the Sky, Texas Cyclone & the Lucky Texan.
