- DirectorMel SmithStarsBrian BenbenMary Stuart MastersonNed BeattyA series of mysterious crimes threatens the existence of a new radio network.A zany mystery-comedy that takes place during the '30s when radio was king! It's not great but it really absorbs the viewer into the time period it presents. I kinda like it... - DirectorRon UnderwoodStarsBilly CrystalJack PalanceDaniel SternOn the verge of turning 40, an unhappy Manhattan yuppie is roped into joining his two friends on a cattle drive in the southwest.A half-way decent "guys' trip" flick. Daniel Stern is hilarious as always when he goes full psycho. Overall, it's a good film with some genuine laughs.
- DirectorTom MankiewiczStarsDan AykroydTom HanksChristopher PlummerThe equally strait-laced and "by-the-book" nephew of Joe Friday must work with his more laid-back partner to solve a mystery.A pretty fun and enjoyable buddy cop action comedy! As someone who enjoys the original '60s Dragnet show, this is a nice love-letter to an iconic series! Dan Aykroyd is absolutely perfect as the nephew of Joe Friday! - DirectorJoe DanteStarsJohn GoodmanCathy MoriartySimon FentonThe teenage son of a navy sailor newly stationed in Key West gets some excitement with his friends when a small-time film producer comes to town to premiere a kitschy horror film during the Cuban Missile Crisis. One of my favorites! This movie really showcases Joe Dante's fondness for classic low-budget sci-fi. The young actors and actresses aren't that great but, for me, this film is about the vibe and John Goodman's charming performance as the gimmicky showman. And it’s not hard to surmise that the film within the film is an homage to the 1954 sci-fi horror classic “Them!”.
- DirectorArthur HillerStarsPeter FalkAlan ArkinRichard LibertiniOn the eve of their children's marriage, NYC in-laws Sheldon Kornpett and Vince Ricardo embark on a series of misadventures involving the CIA, the Treasury Department and Central American dictators. This is a staple in my house and the subject of in-jokes between me and my dad. Alan Arkin and Peter Falk are seriously great together in this wild and wacky rollercoaster ride of well-written comedy.
- DirectorMartin DavidsonStarsJohn RitterAnne ArcherBert ConvyA struggling actor buying milk stops a robbery while wearing a superhero uniform, promoting a movie. - DirectorKevin ReynoldsStarsKevin CostnerJudd NelsonSam RobardsFive college buddies from the University of Texas circa 1971 embark on a final road trip odyssey across the Mexican border before facing up to uncertain futures, in Vietnam and otherwise. This is such a good film! It's everything I could ask for in a movie: takes place in a different time from when it was made and it's a road trip movie! One of the few films where Kevin Costner isn't a bore and Judd Nelson is genuinely hilarious playing sorta the straight man. The soundtrack is great and fits the setting of the film nicely! There's even a cameo from the lovely Elizabeth Daily circa 1985! What's not to like???
- 19641h 35mPG8.4 (519K)97MetascoreDirectorStanley KubrickStarsPeter SellersGeorge C. ScottSterling HaydenAn unhinged American general orders a bombing attack on the Soviet Union, triggering a path to nuclear holocaust that a war room full of politicians and generals frantically tries to stop.Peter Sellers is without a doubt my favorite actor of all-time and in this awesome black comedy satirizing nuclear war he brilliantly plays three distinctly different characters. Not only does this movie feature my favorite Sellers performance(s) but it is also my favorite Stanley Kubrick film.
- DirectorCarl ReinerStarsSteve MartinKathleen TurnerDavid WarnerA brain surgeon marries a femme fatale whose life he saved, causing his life to turn upside down. Things go even more awry when he falls in love with a telepathic brain.Another silly and creative flick from the Steve Martin/Carl Reiner collaboration. Kinda sad they don’t make movies like this anymore.
- DirectorWes AndersonStarsJason SchwartzmanBill MurrayOlivia WilliamsA teenager at Rushmore Academy falls for a much older teacher and befriends a middle-aged industrialist. Later, he finds out that his love interest and his friend are having an affair, which prompts him to begin a vendetta.Admittedly, I've never really cared for Wes Anderson's movies but this one is decent. The main character's obsession with the school is often pretty funny and it's pretty cool to see Bill Murray in a fairly subdued role.
- DirectorPeter HowittStarsRowan AtkinsonJohn MalkovichNatalie ImbrugliaAfter a sudden attack on MI5, Johnny English, Britain's most confident, yet unintelligent spy, becomes Britain's only spy.Rowan Atkinson is hilarious in this fun and entertaining spy comedy. He has been recruited to join a team of the best starfighters to defend their world from the attack. This is a good flick! I have a soft spot for '80s sci-fi films and this one fits nicely with others like 'Flight of the Navigator' and 'Explorers'. The story is gripping and the performances are excellent.
- DirectorPeter SegalStarsChris FarleyDavid SpadeBrian DennehyAfter his auto-parts tycoon father dies, the overweight, underachieving son teams up with a snide accountant to try and save the family business.Chris Farley's beloved 1995 outing is a gut-busting comedy classic. He and David Spade are hilarious and have excellent chemistry. Dan Aykroyd's cameo is also pretty funny.
- DirectorRobert ButlerStarsTim MathesonJennifer RunyonStephen FurstBob McGraw is in his 12th year of college, goofing his way through life, until he has to win a river rafting race with three college buddies. This one is actually pretty funny. It's a stupid low-brow '80s comedy similar to the likes of Police Academy and Revenge of the Nerds. While not as memorable as those two, it is still entertaining to an extent.
- DirectorJoel CoenEthan CoenStarsNicolas CageHolly HunterTrey WilsonWhen a childless couple--an ex-con and an ex-cop--decide to help themselves to one of another family's quintuplets, their lives become more complicated than they anticipated.A super wacky flick starring Nicolas Cage in one of his best performances. It's really entertaining to watch all of the silly situations that these dumb characters get into and it seriously gets funnier upon repeat viewings.
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsKurt RussellLee Van CleefErnest BorgnineIn 1997, when the U.S. president crashes into Manhattan, now a giant maximum security prison, a convicted bank robber is sent in to rescue him.One of the greatest action movies ever made! John Carpenter's earlier work is as impressive as it is iconic. This classic '80s action flick is gritty, tense, and dystopian. The low-budget production also kinda gives it somewhat of a eerie tone.
- DirectorBlake EdwardsStarsJames CoburnDick ShawnSergio FantoniIn World War II, a strategic Italian village agrees to surrender to the Allies only if it's allowed to organize a celebratory festival while giving aerial reconnaissance the false impression of fierce ground fighting. The '60s were definitely the golden era of Blake Edwards's films. And while this one isn't one of the best films of his from that decade, it does have a share of fun silly moments; mostly involving Dick Shawn's usual wacky performance.
- DirectorCarl ReinerStarsJohn CandyRichard CrennaRip TornAn overworked air-traffic controller takes his family on a beach vacation but is soon beset by series of mishaps.2️⃣ This is a fun movie from Carl Reiner and John Candy. There's quite a few wacky moments and the location shot at St Pete Beach is pretty nice.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsRoy ScheiderRobert ShawRichard DreyfussWhen a killer shark unleashes chaos on a beach community off Cape Cod, it's up to a local sheriff, a marine biologist, and an old seafarer to hunt the beast down. The original summer blockbuster flick! This iconic thriller has fantastic cinematography from capturing the shark's POV to the commotion of the beachgoers. Writing is also pretty strong here and well-written. The stars Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss are great but it's Robert Shaw's fantastic performance as shark-hunter Quint that really makes the second half of the movie so engaging!
- DirectorLyndall HobbsStarsFrankie AvalonAnnette FunicelloLori LoughlinFrankie and Annette, having grown up and put aside their beach-partying lifestyle, visit their daughter in Southern California and discover there's still some wild times left in them.A very '80s reunion of sorts for Frankie and Annette. The story is pretty generic but what makes this film fun is the whole charm of recapturing those old beach party flicks in a contemporary setting. The cameos are pretty cool; most notable is obviously Pee-Wee Herman.
- DirectorNicholas MeyerStarsTom HanksJohn CandyRita Wilson1962, after Yale graduation, womanizing Lawrence flees a gambling debt that his rich dad won't pay. He takes his roomie's place as Peace Corps Volunteer in Thai Golden Triangle with 2 other PCVs. Will he survive 2 years?A fun buddy comedy featuring Tom Hanks in one of his less-remembered '80s roles. John Candy's performance in this is pretty hilarious as usual.
- DirectorRoger DonaldsonStarsRobin WilliamsTim RobbinsPamela ReedJoey gets 2 days to sell 12 cars to keep his job and keep his girlfriends happy. It gets worse. He's juggling 3 buyers when a guy with a machine gun crashes into the car dealership and takes everybody hostage.A pretty amusing cynical comedy featuring Robin Williams doing his usual comedic schtick. Starts out kinda slow but becomes fun once the crazy Tim Robbins enters the picture to round out the flick.
- DirectorRobert MooreStarsPeter FalkAlec GuinnessPeter SellersFive famous literary detective characters and their sidekicks are invited to a bizarre mansion to solve an even stranger mystery.A silly parody of classic whodunnit stories featuring a solid cast. Peter Falk is great as always. Peter Sellers is funny. But the standout is Alec Guinness who plays the blind butler for most of the film providing some pretty amusing interactions with the other characters.
- DirectorJim AbrahamsStarsCharlie SheenCary ElwesValeria GolinoA parody of Top Gun (1986) in which a talented but unstable fighter pilot must overcome the ghosts of his father and save a mission sabotaged by greedy weapons manufacturers.Classic Top Gun parody is an outright laugh-fest and one of my all-time favorite comedies! Lloyd Bridges is absolutely hysterical and provides the majority of the wacky memorable moments! The funeral scene alone had me rolling on the floor during my first viewing of the flick!
- DirectorHoward ZieffStarsMichael KeatonChristopher LloydPeter BoyleFour mental patients on a field trip in New York City must save their caring chaperon, who ends up being taken to a hospital in a coma after accidentally witnessing a murder, before the killers can find him and finish the job.Released the same year as his hugely successful box office hit, Michael Keaton stars in this hilariously wacky and entertaining comedy alongside three other actors who all give equally great performances!
- DirectorSteve BarronStarsJudith HoagElias KoteasJosh PaisFour teenage mutant ninja turtles emerge from the shadows to protect New York City from a gang of criminal ninjas.I don't care what anyone thinks. This movie. Is. AWESOME! Outside of this film and the sequel, I know absolutely nothing about the ninja turtles. And I don't care for superhero movies either. So why do I enjoy this flick and find myself quoting it so much. The action is entertaining, the effects and animatronics puppetry are just so charming, and the dialogue is fun and endlessly quotable.
- DirectorWarren BeattyStarsWarren BeattyMadonnaAl PacinoThe comic strip detective finds his life vastly complicated when Breathless Mahoney makes advances towards him while he is trying to battle Big Boy Caprice's united mob.A pretty decent detective flick based on the classic comic strip. The use of shadows and gorgeous colorful lighting really does give this film a nice illustrious comic book tone. The acting is decent. Music is good and really captures that sorta seedy city nightlife vibe that the movie was going for.
- DirectorHarold BeckerStarsMatthew ModineLinda FiorentinoMichael SchoefflingA high school wrestler in Spokane, Washington has trouble focusing on his training regimen when a beautiful young drifter takes up temporary residence at his home.A decent coming of age flick. Soundtrack is the main star here personally. Acting is good. Story is inspiring. Been curious about this film for years and finally got around to watching it. Overall, a pretty alright film.
- DirectorMichael NankinDavid WechterStarsDavid NaughtonDebra ClingerJoel KenneyLeon picks college students to participate in his all night scavenger hunt. Five teams receive clues to solve leading them to the next clue site hidden in the city.A fun b-movie scavenger hunt comedy. It’s definitely a relic of its time and the story/writing are average at best. The performances are pretty fun though. A young Michael J Fox, the nerdy Eddie Deezen, and a wacky Paul Reubens cameo are the most notable ones. Definitely a guilty pleasure of mine for sure.
- DirectorMichael LehmannStarsBrendan FraserSteve BuscemiAdam SandlerThree band members hoping for a big break head to a radio station to play their demo tape and wind up holding everyone hostage with plastic guns when the head D.J. refuses to play them.A very fun comedy centered around heavy metal culture. Probably the best role Brendan Fraser has ever done. The cast is great, soundtrack could be better but gets the job done, and the story is pretty entertaining.
- DirectorDanny CannonStarsSylvester StalloneArmand AssanteRob SchneiderIn a dystopian future, Joseph Dredd, the most famous Judge (a police officer with instant field judiciary powers), is convicted for a crime he did not commit and must face his murderous counterpart. One of those "so bad it's good" type of movies. It's just a fun over-the-top cheesy action flick. In my opinion, far superior than the newer Dredd film.
- DirectorNicholas MeyerStarsMalcolm McDowellMary SteenburgenDavid WarnerH.G. Wells pursues Jack the Ripper to the 20th Century when the serial murderer uses the future writer's time machine to escape his time period. This is such a well-written, creative film! Time-travel movies like this one are always a blast. Very entertaining and the story really keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat waiting for what happens next. The performances are absolutely stellar across the board.
- DirectorIvan ReitmanStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerDanny DeVitoKelly PrestonA physically perfect but innocent man goes in search of his long-lost twin brother, who is short, a womanizer, and small-time crook.A fun stupid comedy featuring Schwarzenegger in a fairly comedic role with some pretty wacky scenes.
- DirectorBarry LevinsonStarsDustin HoffmanTom CruiseValeria GolinoAfter a selfish L.A. yuppie learns his estranged father left a fortune to an autistic-savant brother in Ohio that he didn't know existed, he absconds with his brother and sets out across the country, hoping to gain a larger inheritance.A beautifully-made road-trip character-study movie! Acting is definitely this film's strong point and each person is very sincere in their role.
- DirectorBrian GilbertStarsJudge ReinholdFred SavageCorinne BohrerDivorced executive Marshall and his 11-year-old son Charlie casually touch a magical Tibetan skull, releasing a mysterious power that transfers Marshall's mind to Charlie's body and vice versa. Their problems have just begun. One of my favorite underrated '80s comedies! It's so amusing to watch Judge Reinhold play the role of an 11-year old stuck in an adult's body with that dopey demeanor of his. Dialogue is also hilarious especially from characters like Marshall's co-workers and Charlie's schoolmates who are unaware of what's going on. This is just an all-around fun stupid hilarious movie that's definitely right up my alley.

- DirectorBlake EdwardsStarsDavid NivenPeter SellersRobert WagnerThe bumbling Inspector Clouseau travels to Rome to catch a notorious jewel thief known as "The Phantom" before he conducts his most daring heist yet: a princess' priceless diamond with one slight imperfection, known as "The Pink Panther".Starting today (Sunday, April 2), I will be watching all 9 classic Inspector Clouseau movies in chronological order for historical sake.
The first of these films is pretty good albeit a tad unfocused and inconsistent at times. It follows our lead character Inspector Jacques Clouseau in addition to several others (huge emphasis on David Niven's character Sir Charles Lytton) which can feel a bit overwhelming but it helps flesh out the story and the motives behind the suspects. Overall, a good beginning for the Blake Edwards helmed franchise and Peter Sellers's most iconic role. It just isn't a favorite of mine. - DirectorBlake EdwardsStarsPeter SellersElke SommerGeorge SandersInspector Clouseau falls in love with a murder suspect and tries to clear her name.Day 2 of what I like to call Clouseau week (which will spill into the beginning of next week based on how I planned it all).
This is my personal favorite of the Inspector Clouseau movies and the finest work of Blake Edwards's directorial career. The balance between comedy and mystery is fantastic and really showcases Peter Sellers's talents. The other performances are just as good if not better; notably Herbert Lom as Clouseau's temperamental commissioner. It's just a great flick that's as amusing as it is mysterious. Mostly evident by the twist(?) at the end pertaining to the solution of the crime. - DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsMarlon BrandoAl PacinoJames CaanThe aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son.Taking a brief break from Clouseau week to watch my 100th movie for this year.
Admittedly, I had never seen this one until today and after watching it, I can definitely understand why it's revered as a timeless classic. The acting is phenomenal especially from Marlon Brando. The cinematography is fantastic and really captures the gritty tone the movie is going for. The characters and story are very deep and well-written. The whole film just feels complete from start to finish with nothing lacking.
