Joe Carnahan’s Narc opens in a frenzy, as a narcotics detective, Nick Tellis (Jason Patric), chases a drug dealer through the streets of Detroit on foot. There are echoes here of the foot chase that unspools midway through Kathyrn Bigelow’s Point Break, with these men bashing forth in and out of houses, over fences, through playgrounds, their collision with endless variables driving up anxiety. Narc’s images aren’t as polished as that film’s, partially by necessity, partially by design, as Tellis’s improvisations to get his perp mirror those of Carnahan, who’s fashioning a high-voltage set piece on the fly, an upstart filmmaker balling on a budget. It’s a hell of an opening, establishing Narc’s tortured atmosphere and fractured aesthetic, with shaky, chilly images cut and reassembled (by editor John Gilroy) into shards that suggest policework to be a roaring inferno.

What is it about Speed that always keeps people coming back for more? Now celebrating its third decade as one of the greatest action films ever made, Jan de Bont’s positively explosive bare bones rush hour movie is a rare case of an enduring Hollywood classic, with insanely bankable stars, that hasn’t been re-upped, remade or rebooted to death.
30 years on, it has spawned a wealth of imitators, a legion of die-hard fans (50Mph podcast we see you) and an entire legacy of super straightforward, super effective action cinema. But really only one legitimate sequel. So, what happened? How did such an influential movie falter? Why is an IP-hungry Hollywood, that’s somehow so starved it’s willing to bankroll a 9-figure stuntman movie based on an ancient and barely remembered ’80s TV show, so Speed-phobic? And most importantly of all, is the original still just as good as you remember it?...

Thirty years on, stars Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves have said they’d be interested in making Speed 3. “We’d knock it out of the park,” Bullock enthused.
It’s almost exactly 30 years since director Jan de Bont made the corking action thriller Speed – better known to Homer Simpson as The Bus That Couldn’t Slow Down. All these decades later, the film’s co-stars, Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves, have expressed their interest in making a third film – though the way they talk about the prospect suggests they may not be entirely serious.
The pair briefly talked about a possible Speed 3 on the 50Mph podcast, as picked up by The Hollywood Reporter. Bullock immediately sounded keen on the idea, saying, “We’d freakin’ knock it out of the park.”
Reeves concurred. “It does feel like there’s a siren call to it,” he said, “like there’s something that wasn’t done.

It’s been thirty years since Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock starred alongside one another in Jan de Bont’s classic action thriller Speed, but the pair are game to reunite for Speed 3.
During a joint interview on the 50 Mph podcast, Reeves and Bullock expressed a willingness to return for Speed 3. “I mean, you know — we’d freakin’ knock it out of the park,” Reeves said. Given the success of the first movie, the studio was keen to get a sequel off the ground, but only Bullock returned for Speed 2: Cruise Control, which was a notorious bomb in just about every respect.
Will Speed 3 actually happen? Who knows, but even if it doesn’t, the two actors are aware that they share a special chemistry and would love to work together again. “There’s no formula. It just is,” Bullock said. “Before I die, before I leave this planet,...

It’s almost hard to imagine anyone else doing Bill Cutting in place of the legendary Daniel Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York, or Tim Robbins’ Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption but Hollywood veteran Tom Hanks came pretty close to playing several iconic characters including Cutting and Dufresne. The actor was also in negotiation to play one of Keanu Reeves’ roles.
Tom Hanks and Tyler Hoechlin in Road to Perdition
Of course, it’s not John Wick, it would have been kind of weird seeing Hanks as John Wick, as for fans, Reeves was immersed in the character and he is now hard to replace. But Hanks almost booked the slot of the 1994 hit action thriller, Speed. But the role eventually went to the John Wick star.

Vertical has acquired North American rights to the horror film “The Exorcism,” starring Oscar winner Russell Crowe. It will be released this summer.
If this sounds vaguely familiar, that’s because Crowe also starred in an exorcism movie last year, the underrated “The Pope’s Exorcist.”
The new film follows Anthony Miller (Crowe), “a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film.” His estranged daughter (Ryan Simpkins) then starts to wonder if he’s slipped back into his addict past or if there’s something more supernatural at work.
“The Exorcism” was directed and co-written (with M.A. Fortin) by Joshua John Miller, who started his career as an actor (one of his first roles was as the little vampire kid in Kathryn Bigelow’s classic “Near Dark”). His father Jason Miller portrayed Father Damien Karras in “The Exorcist,” while his mother Susan Bernard appeared in “Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!...

Keanu Reeves established himself as a bankable commercial action star in the 90s with films such as Point Break and The Matrix. However, Reeves’ 1994 action-drama Speed was a blockbuster and catapulted the actor to new heights. As a result, it was a surprise that Reeves did not return for a sequel.
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock in Speed
During an interview, Reeves spoke about not appearing in the 1997 sequel and revealed the real reason he passed on the project. At the same time, he also opened up about the possibility of revisiting the franchise in the future. Here is everything Keanu Reeves said about not reprising his role in Speed 2: Cruise Control.

The Lost Boys became one of the ’80s most iconic horror films with its dark, steamy take on vampires. But its co-writer James Jeremias initially had a much different type of film in mind, inspired by Peter Pan.
In an interview with The Guardian for the publication’s “How We Made” series, Jeremias, a former grip turned screenwriter who wrote the Joel Schumacher film alongside Janice Fischer, recalled that after reading Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire, he was particularly struck by Claudia being frozen in time in the body of a 5-year-old for eternity.
“It got me thinking about J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan — where our title came from. What if the reason he came out at night, could fly and didn’t grow up was because he was a vampire? We took a fictional character and put him in a new light. What if it wasn’t...

A wedding with a dark secret is at the heart of this strange, silly action movie, dragged out by abrupt flashes forward and back
You can’t say the title doesn’t warn you. Quoting the darkest part of the traditional wedding vow and revolving around both matrimony and mortality, this quite silly, rather weird action movie starts with an unnamed bride (Natalie Burn) and groom (Ser’Darius Blain) preparing to walk down the aisle. But before the Wedding March can start, the film cuts to a different point in time where the couple in question are frolicking on the Puerto Rican beach where the film is set and shot. They go to a bar where they meet another, older couple (Jason Patric and Nicole Arlyn) and then another crash cut jumps us to yet another point in the story when the bride is running away from her husband, but is...

E.L. James' original "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy is undoubtedly the most successful piece of fanfiction ever published. James turned the teen-friendly romance between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen in Stephenie Meyer's wildly popular "Twilight" franchise into an erotic reverie explored by the mysterious (and quite wealthy) entrepreneur Christian Grey and college journalist Kate Kavanaugh. It was a Bdsm gateway drug that opened up a healthy portal for kink-curious young adults. You didn't have to feel like a freak for wanting to do what conservative society deemed freaky.
Was it good literature? Does it matter? James' novels have sold hundreds of millions of copies and been translated into 52 different languages. They are adored by people who never knew they wanted to see Bella and Edward engage in consensual sadomasochism. I am happy they have these stories in their lives. What matters, at least when it comes to my bailiwick,...

The Lost Boys was released in an era before vampire movies were once again in vogue; while it wasn’t a huge box office hit, it did serve to reignite interest in the genre, paving the way for many of the vampire films that followed. The film, directed by Joel Schumacher, was highly acclaimed for its casting, as it assembled an all-star team of 1987’s top young talent, including Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, Jami Gertz, Alex Winter, and Kiefer Sutherland. With the film now recognized as a cult classic, Speaking at a Steel City Con panel, Sutherland said he knew it was an interesting movie, but had no idea that it would have such staying power. Actor Patrick Wilson is on board to produce a stage musical version of 80s cult film The Lost Boys. More details here:
If all you’ve ever wanted was a musical about some very attractive vampires, you’re in luck. Joel Schumacher’s 1987 cult film The Lost Boys is heading to the stage, with added songs!
Aquaman star Patrick Wilson will be producing alongside James Carpinello and Marcus Chait, as reported by Deadline. Wilson took a stab at directing this year, helming the fourth Insidious sequel, Insidious: The Red Door. While also reprising his role as Josh Lambert in the long-running horror franchise, Wilson also teamed up with Ghost to deliver a cover of the song “Stay” which played over the end credits.
The original The Lost Boys, which also spawned two sequels, followed brothers who moved to a new town, just to find out it’s the prime spot for some vampires.

The Lost Boys musical will be produced by three veteran actors: Patrick Wilson, James Carpinello, and Marcus Chait (Broadway productions of The Pirate Queen and Urban Cowboy). According to Deadline, the show will be “produced by special arrangement with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures.”

Patrick Wilson is no stranger to the horror genre, having starred in the likes of three Conjuring movies and three Insidious movies (one of which he directed), among other things – but I never would have predicted that his name would be attached to a stage musical adaptation of Joel Schumacher’s 1987 vampire classic The Lost Boys (watch it Here). We’ve all got that friend. The one who convinces us to push our boundaries or take that crazy risk, even though we have a hunch we’ll probably get hurt. They’re exciting, they’re cool, maybe even supportive, but they tend to lead us down the road to trouble, only to duck out when the consequences roll around. Film has a long history of these toxic troublemakers. Looking back, the Horror/Thriller genre was practically built on the backs of these smiling devils, who lure us in with their fun-loving wiles, then lead us off the side of a cliff.

Abigail Breslin is paying tribute to his My Sister’s Keeper co-star Evan Ellingson after news of his death.
In a post on Instagram, Breslin remembered Ellingson, who played her big brother in the 2009 film.
“Evan Ellingson was a kind, funny and extremely talented human being,” Breslin shared. “Evan was a genuinely thoughtful person who cared so much about turning in the best performance, which he accomplished. Some of his scenes in Msk still give me chills.”
Breslin continued, “He was also silly, funny, a prankster, a lover of Red Bull (I hated the smell of Red Bull) and he was energetic and the life of the party.”
Although the on-camera siblings didn’t keep in touch after filming, Breslin said that Ellingson, “always stayed in my mind as a wonderful and sweet soul, one I am grateful to have crossed paths with. My prayers and condolences are with his family at this difficult time.

I’ve always been interested and super curious about the whole Mk Ultra CIA Human Experiment story and have often found myself reading articles, listening to podcasts or watching the odd rare documentary diving into what is and is not known about the highly illegal but absolutely fascinating events. So a dramatisation of one man’s involvement was sure to get my juices flowing.
There was also an added interesting factor to Mk Ultra with the director being from an intelligence background. This may not make much difference in terms of a factual nature (although it couldn’t hurt) but you have to imagine it would make a difference in terms of aesthetic and the procedural nature of the story as we take an all too real,...

For Ukranian-American actress Natalie Burn, growing up as a ballerina and going to ultra-competitive schools in Moscow and London was surprisingly effective training for surviving Hollywood.
“The competition is so brutal and you’re constantly getting rejected,” Burn says. “You have to have a very thick skin to not pay attention and just brush it off and go, ‘It’s okay.’ In the end, you’re doing it for you. That’s your dream. You’re basically saying, ‘No, I was born to do this, so I’m not gonna give up.’”
She’s appeared in films including Black Adam, Expendibles 3, The Enforcer and Mechanic: Resurrection, and now leads Til Death Do Us Part, a horror-action-comedy hybrid distributed by Cineverse that follows a uniquely skilled bride’s fight to stay alive after running away from her wedding. Plot: After bailing on her wedding, a former bride-to-be must fight off her ex-groom and seven angry killer groomsmen in order to survive the night.
Review: I always love a good revenge story. Ever since Kill Bill, even having a character named The Bride automatically evokes the imagery of Uma Thurman in that yellow and black jumpsuit. So I went into Til Death Do Us Part expecting something with a lot of personality. Sure, it was never going to live up to the Tarantino classic but that’s okay. Few do. And while the characters don’t hit quite as hard as I’d have liked, there’s a fun mystery present that elevates the film. Because the question of why this woman ditched out on her wedding doesn’t have an answer that you may expect. And that’s why I ended up enjoying myself, despite its many flaws.

As Til Death Do Us Part opens The Best Man sits in a pew working on his speech as upbeat music plays in the background. That’s followed by similar glimpses of other wedding party members prepping for the ceremony. A flashback to The Bride and Groom, nobody in this film has a name, on vacation serves to reinforce the happy image.
But Til Death Do Us Part isn’t a Hallmark Channel rom-com or Lifetime Channel thriller. Because when The Bride gets cold feet and bails on the wedding, we find out everyone involved in the ceremony is a highly skilled assassin. Now the stood-up Groom wants more than just his ring back, and their employer doesn’t take resignations well.

The “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise almost steered “Speed” away from audiences.
The Eddie Murphy comedy-action vehicle was once briefly on the brink of taking over the “Speed” script before Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock were attached to star, according to former Paramount vice president of production Don Granger.
During Kris Tapley’s latest episode of the “50 Mph” podcast, which offers a comprehensive oral history of “Speed,” Granger revealed that stalled negotiations for “Speed” led him to pitch the screenplay as a “Beverly Hills Cop III” script.
“I really wanted to try to mount the movie, and my last-ditch effort was … I pitched it at our chairman’s lunch as a possible script for ‘Beverly Hills Cop III,'” Granger said. “I got about 15 minutes of traction before it was dismissed, because that was back when the mandate was to find a ‘Beverly Hill Cop III.’ So I was like, ‘Let...

"You promised to keep us safe. You didn't." Saban Films has launched an official trailer for another of these junk action thrillers called Shrapnel, on VOD to watch in late July. This is the third film out this year from a filmmaker you've never heard of named William Kaufman - his other two are The Channel and Warhorse One. None of these films do anything unique or different. In this one, when Sean's daughter goes missing on the Mexican border, he teams up with his former Marine partner to face off against the Mexican cartel that kidnapped her. Oh, how original. The film stars Jason Patric as Sean, with Cam Gigandet, Kesia Elwin, Mauricio Mendoza, and Guillermo Iván. This looks so boring and so dumb. "Whether she's alive or not, nobody's gettin' out of there." Does anyone even watch these movies? Please don't waste any time or money. // Continue Reading...

With an unprecedented number of Oscar nominations for Irish talent and films this year, everyone was celebrating the green wave at the 17th annual Oscar Wilde Awards, held Thursday night — before the rain arrived — at Bad Robot in Santa Monica. “It’s amazing, there are 7 million people on that island, and all of them were nominated and are here tonight,” host J.J. Abrams joked, in a year when 25 percent of the Academy Award acting nominations are held by Irish actors.
The Oscar Wilde honorees this year were Irish actresses Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jessie Buckley (Women Talking), Eve Hewson (Flora and Son) and An Cailίn Ciúin (The Quiet Girl), the first Irish language film nominated for an Academy Award. Created by the US-Ireland Alliance, the Oscar Wilde Awards celebrate the work of those from Ireland — and some who are not — who contribute to the movies, television and music.
