Cannabis is known to have many medical benefits and can be helpful with conditions like cancer, chronic pain, and Ptsd. There is also evidence of marijuana being connected to spirituality and being used for ritualistic purposes throughout history. Trim Season is a fantastical and thought-provoking commentary on gender and the magical benefits of cannabis.
Trim Season was written by David Blair (The Triangle), Sean E. DeMott (American Satan), and Cullen Poythress, directed by Ariel Vida (Vide Noir), and produced by Paper Street Pictures. Vida was the production designer for Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead’s mind-bending films Something in the Dirt and The Endless, and if you’re familiar with the universe Benson and Moorhead have created, you will appreciate the imaginative and almost mythical Easter Eggs Vida incorporates into Trim Season.

Science fiction allows us to explore worlds of imagination and possibility, the bigger and the wilder the better. However, the line between smash hit and cult darling is hard to pinpoint, much less cross. The show that doesn't win this blindfolded coin toss is often doomed to go forgotten, its episode order cut short, and its effects budget cruelly slashed just in time to limp to a half-baked finale or worse, a cliffhanger.
It's a fate that often hits this genre harder than others because big concept science fiction shows can look like money pits to studios worried about their bottom line. Money makes it difficult for showrunners to realize their full vision, much less attract strong writers to help them on the way. Despite these hurdles, there are years of great science fiction lurking under an ocean filled with "Star Trek" yachts and waves of reality TV. Of course,...

Surrogate begins with Rose (Taysha Farrugia) celebrating her ninth birthday before going to bed. She asks her mother Natalie if they can check for monsters. Natalie tells her there are no such things, which of course means the girl has more to worry about than a jump scare from her Uncle Will.
As she’s leaving the now-closed clinic she has an encounter with a woman who seems to be mentally ill. She encounters the woman again when she stops for gas, this time having to try and save her after she drinks bleach. After this she suddenly develops symptoms that resemble a pregnancy, even waking up bloody from the waist down as though she had given birth, but there’s no baby to be found.

First up, Bloody Disgusting is excited to debut the brand new Screambox Original PussyCake, a gore-fest from Argentina that’s now streaming exclusively on Screambox!

Exclusive: Maxim Swinton (Halston) has joined the cast of Raymond and Ray, writer-director Rodrigo García’s (Four Good Days) film for Apple Studios.
He joins an ensemble that includes Ewan McGregor, Ethan Hawke, Maribel Verdú and Sophie Okonedo, as previously announced.
The film currently in production in Virginia centers on Raymond (McGregor) and Ray (Hawke), half-brothers who have lived in the shadow of a terrible father. Somehow, they still each have a sense of humor, and his funeral is a chance for them to reinvent themselves. There’s anger, there’s pain, there’s folly, there might be love, and there’s definitely grave-digging.
Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón is producing with Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn of Mockingbird Pictures, with Gabriela Rodriguez and Shea Kammer serving as EPs.

Once upon a time, when there were just three major networks, the schedules would be filled with glossy, interesting, high-concept miniseries, usually aired during the vital November, February, and May sweeps periods when the ratings were used to set advertising rates. This is what gave us great concepts like ABC’s Roots or, in 1983, V.
Metro subways and bus stations were plastered that spring with red-suited people, wearing sunglasses and big smiles, wrapping their arms around ordinary folk and we were assured: “The Visitors are our Friends”. A few weeks later, they were replaced with replicas but now a spray-painted V covered them and we got a hint of the Visitors’ true, reptilian nature.
The V miniseries, wonderfully written and directed by Ken Johnson (he of Incredible Hulk fame) was a taut two-night affair that presented the aliens coming to Earth and befriending us before their true intentions were revealed and a resistance movement began.

‘Innuendo’
Producer-exhibitor Blake Northfield and filmmaker-actor Saara Lamberg had never met until they joined Cinegar Bar, the new independent filmmakers co-operative founded by Heath Davis.
It was a fortuitous meeting for both as Northfield agreed to screen Innuendo, the Finnish-Australian’s debut feature as a director, at his Byron Bay cinema Pighouse Flicks.
In the psychological thriller she plays Tuuli, a nude art class model who moves to Melbourne from Finland and endures a string of broken relationships. Andy Jans-Brown plays Lucky, whose friendship with Tuuli goes sour, with Andy Hazel as Thomas, a sensitive uni student and Brendan Bacon as charismatic chainsaw sculptor Ben.
It will premiere at Pighouse Flicks on March 15 with a Q&A session attended by Lamberg and Jans-Brown, and will play for at least a week.
Distributed by Umbrella Entertainment, the film screened last year at Melbourne’s Cinema Nova, has been released on VOD and played on 9Gem.

"Everyone wants freedom." A trailer has debuted for an indie sci-fi film titled Virtual Revolution, which first premiered in 2016 but is just now trying to get a release. The film also goes by the title 2047 - Virtual Reality in the UK, but I suppose the "virtual reality" in the title is a bit confusing, so they're using Virtual Revolution instead. Virtual Revolution is set in Paris in 2047, where most of the population spends their time online, connected into virtual worlds, and don't care anymore about reality. One "hybrid" (meaning he spends half in the real world, half in the virtual world) agent, who works for the companies that run these virtual worlds, tracks down terrorists who threaten the system. The basically seems like a nice indie mashup between Blade Runner and Ready Player One. This stars Mike Dopud, Jane Badler, Jochen Hägele, Maximilien Poullein, and Kaya Blocksage. Worth a look,...

Celebrities will invade Los Angeles this weekend for the 84th Academy Awards ceremony. Searchlights will blaze and flashbulbs will pop as Hollywood stars will descend from the heavens -- or maybe just the Malibu hills -- to touch the ground that regular Angelenos walk on each day. They'll smile and snarl our traffic. They'll toss their hair and forget to thank their husbands. They'll praise each other for their bravery, while collecting $75,000 gift bags. L.A. is accustomed to such strange invasions, of course. If you're a movie fan, you already know that L.A. has been invaded over the years by everything from giant atomic ants (Them), to buff cyborgs (The Terminator), to rampaging 3D zombies (Resident Evil: Afterlife). So Angelenos take invasions from movie stars in stride. But this weekend marks an anniversary of an invasion you might not know about: L.A.'s first alien invasion. This...

You know the joke about how, whenever a kid turns out rotten, it’s the mother’s fault? In the case of Once Upon a Time‘s Evil Queen (Lana Parilla), it’s actually true.
An upcoming arc will introduce us to Cora, the malevolent Mommie Dearest who taught Regina her wicked ways. And who will play the plum part? No word yet. But if it were up to us, it would be one of these leading ladies:

Few things are more beautiful in a TV series than the death of a main character. TV shows used to be created out of static component parts, with casts of characters that would only evolve very gradually, if at all. But that’s all changed in the last 10 years, first with the advent of death-happy cable networks — farewell, Big Pussy — and then with the mid-decade rise of serialized dramas that merrily killed off cast members in an effort to perpetually raise the narrative stakes. Nowadays, it’s practically essential for any remotely violent drama to kill off a main character in the season finale.

Chicago – After two increasingly rocky seasons, ABC’s soulless reboot of Kenneth Johnson’s ’80s miniseries and subsequent TV show “V” was finally cancelled. It ended the sci-fi serial on a tragic cliffhanger that was very much in keeping with the show’s status as a muddled downer. Though some fans have signed petitions to get the show renewed on a different network, it’s doubtful that “V” will garner a large audience outside of Comic Con conventions.
With its morose ensemble and cheap anti-Obama fearmongering, there was very little here to keep viewers engaged, aside from the loud rises in music that sound before every commercial break (and, in some cases, after every scene change). Leading ladies Elizabeth Mitchell and Morena Baccarin had ample screen time to perfect the art of the pensive, simmering stare, yet as good as the actresses were, the writers gave them little to do but engage in hour-long stare-offs.
