"Cheers" is one of the best and most popular sitcoms of all time. That's not hyperbole, either — critics and fans alike will sing the praises of the show until you can't stand it anymore. "Okay, I get it!" you'll say. "You love 'Cheers'! Leave me alone!" Running for 11 seasons from 1982 to 1993, and starring Ted Danson, Shelley Long, Rhea Perlman, George Wendt, John Ratzenberger, Woody Harrelson, and more, "Cheers" was actually a flop during its first season, finishing last in the ratings during its premiere. Things were so bad, in fact, that the network almost pulled the plug. Eventually, though, "Cheers" found its audience, and that audience couldn't get enough of the barflies and bartenders who called the show home.

At a time when syndicated science fiction was just Star Trek series, it took some guts on Warner Bros’ part to try something darker and more experimental with J. Michael Straczynski’s Babylon 5, designed to tell a sprawling epic that was more political than it was space opera. The show arrived thirty years ago and was successful enough to spawn spin-off five telefilms and a short-lived spinoff, spanning 1993-2007.
The core of it, the 110 episodes from the original five-season series, have been remastered and collected on a nice Blu-ray box set from Warner Home Entertainment. Also included is the original pilot film.
Set in the 23rd century, the Earth Alliance has found its place among star-faring races, notably the Minbari and the Centauri. Some of these races are fine with humans; others wish them gone. Then there are the Vorlons, and no one knows what they want.

December is here, and for many, that means watching Serendipity, the 2001 romantic comedy starring Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack. While the movie premiered more than two decades ago — yes, really — Beckinsale, who played destiny-obsessed Sara, has experienced serendipity in her own life. She once had a “very on-brand” Serendipity type of interaction in a hotel bathroom. Ahead, how she “fell apart” upon hearing about a fan of the movie. Plus, how Jennifer Aniston almost played Sara and where to watch Serendipity.
Kate Beckinsale had a ‘serendipitous’ experience meeting Kenickie’s real-life girlfriend
Like her Serendipity character, Beckinsale has found herself in a “serendipitous” situation from time to time. One particularly memorable moment happened in a hotel bathroom with the girlfriend of the late Grease star Jeff Conaway, who played Kenickie.
“From a very young age, I was really obsessed with Grease, like everybody was,” Beckinsale, 50, told Vulture in 2020. “I learned all the dances,...

It may have taken a long time to get here, but Babylon 5 is finally making the leap to Blu-ray. Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment announced today that all five seasons of the iconic sci-fi series will be released on Blu-ray on December 5th.
Babylon 5 has previously only been available on DVD and the image quality wasn’t always the best, so fans have been waiting for this moment for quite some time. You can check out the official box art for Babylon 5: The Complete Series below, which strangely doesn’t feature the titular space station.
All five seasons of Babylon 5 were scanned and remastered from the original camera negative in 4K, with a colour correction and the cleaning of dirt and scratches as well. The many CGI shots of the series have been digitally upscaled to HD, and short of a complete remaster, that’s probably...

40 years after the classic sitcom came to an end, 4 members of the cast of “Taxi” reunited for lunch. Luckily for fans of the show, the group — Christopher Lloyd, Judd Hirsh, Carol Kane and Tony Danza –later shared the moment on Twitter with a charming photo posted to Lloyd’s Twitter account.
“What the hell is going on here?” Lloyd asked in the tweet.

For those who don’t remember, “Taxi” was a very well regarded sitcom that aired from 1978-1983, first on ABC before it was canceled after Season 4, then revived on NBC for its 5th and final season. The show followed a group of disillusioned misfits working for a Manhattan cab company, anchored by Hirsch’s Alex Reiger, who happens to be the only employee that doesn’t consider the job temporary.

We are junkies and art is our drug. Family we love – but art? We are meshuggah for art. You think I wanted to leave my sisters, my mama and my papa and go stick my stupid head in the mouth of lions?”
So rants Judd Hirsch’s “Uncle Boris” in one of the pivotal scenes from Steven Spielberg’s masterful auto-biopic The Fabelmans. Boris, an eccentric crank based on the filmmaker’s real great-uncle, unleashes the abrasive life lesson on the adolescent Spielberg-alike Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel Labelle) during Hirsch’s fleeting appearance in the film. (Meshuggah, by the way, means “crazy” in Yiddish, and those lions are – for Sammy at least – metaphorical.) It was a moment that Spielberg claims made him become a director. And it was a scene that secured Hirsch his second Oscar nomination, a record-breaking 42 years after his first. Now a few days shy of 88, Hirsch would...

Cheers is streaming in its entirety on Peacock and Paramount+, and a few seasons are still on Hulu. 11 seasons gives you 273 total episodes to watch, but let’s say you’ve already watched them all. At under 30 minutes each, it would only take you 136 hours, so less than a week if you don’t sleep. Anyway, here are five other shows you might like if you also like Cheers.

A new version of the Emmy-winning space opera television series Babylon 5 is in the works. The CW has put in development Babylon 5, described as a “from-the-ground-up reboot” of the critically acclaimed 1990s series, from original series creator J. Michael Straczynski and Warner Bros. Television.
Written by Straczynski, the reboot revolves around John Sheridan (played by Bruce Boxleitner in the original series), an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background, who is assigned to Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space, a port of call for travelers, smugglers, corporate explorers and alien diplomats at a time of uneasy peace and the constant threat of war. His arrival triggers a destiny beyond anything he could have imagined, as an exploratory Earth company accidentally triggers a conflict with a civilization a million years ahead of us, putting Sheridan and the rest of the B5 crew in the line of fire as the last,...

When it comes to Hollywood casting, it seems like anything goes — especially when it involves high school. For decades, actors in their 20s (and even their 30s) have been tapped to play teens. And we all say, “Sure, why not?!”
Below, take a look at 10 actors who were way too old for their on-screen teenage roles, from Stockard Channing in “Grease” to Ben Platt in “Dear Evan Hansen.”
Stockard Channing, 33, “Grease” (1978)
When Channing played Rizzo in “Grease,” she was the oldest high schooler on set at age 33. This fun fact is #2 to the late Jeff Conaway (Kenickie) giving real hickeys to Channing off-set.

We love Cassandra Peterson, a smart woman who made a go of horror host work in the tough Los Angeles TV market, long after the short-lived Vampira and just a few years after the passing of Sinister Seymour. After Elvira’s Movie Macabre she got to make this lively comedy feature, and thus planted her stake in the cinema firmament while at the top of her game. I’d give it an A+ for nostalgic sentiment, a B for quality and a B+ for wit, even if the adult humor does skew a bit infantile. Well, that was part of the Elvira personality too!

Marilu Henner admits she had her pick of the litter during Taxi's five-year run. She was the only female co-star of the beloved sitcom about NYC's Sunshine Cab Co. when it debuted in 1978, and "within three weeks, Tony Danza and I were dating," she has said of her hunky ex-boxer co-star. I sure love me some witches. I especially adore the satanic kind, pentagrams, candles, and the whole shmear. Welcome to Bay Coven (1987), where the tropes are oh so familiar yet warm and snuggly like a quilted comforter.
Originally broadcast on Sunday, October 25th, Bay Coven was part of the NBC Sunday Night at the Movies, and was summarily trounced by Game 7 of the World Series as the *checks notes* Minnesotans beat the other ones to win the cup. Or something. Anyhoo, for those who were into horror, especially so close to Halloween, Bay Coven (Aka Bay Cove) was a fun treat; nothing original at all, but merely the next in the hallowed tradition of what I like to call (as of right now) the Killer Hospitality sub-genre: Rosemary’s Baby, Crowhaven Farm, and The Dark Secret of Harvest Home all setting out the chips and dip for what Bay Coven has in store.

New Year’s resolutions are a time to work towards a transformation of your body and/or your life. To honor these goals, this month we’re going to look at transformative roles in film. This week we look at some prominent examples of actors playing characters that are much younger than the actors’ actual age.
It’s one thing to mentally prepare to play a character in a movie or a play. It’s another thing to physically transform yourself in order to better identify with the role. Some transformations are only skin deep; extensive makeup or prosthetics may be sufficient to pull of the necessary look. Other transformations are more involved; many actors may take part in weeks, if not months, of preparations for a role. This can include intense training, specialized diets, and exhaustive exercise routines. The end result of an actor going through such a transformation...

We salute a much-loved Babylon 5 character, played by the much-missed Stephen Furst...
A little less than a year ago, in the wake of Jerry Doyle’s passing, Babylon 5 creator J.M. Straczynski made a passionate plea to the universe; too many B5 alumni had died already. Following the untimely deaths of Michael O’Hare, Richard Biggs, Andreas Katsulas, Jeff Conaway, and more recently Jerry Doyle, Straczynski was “goddamned tired of it” and he asked the universe to “knock it off for a while”.

In 2011 when Slash spoke to Entertainment Weekly about why he wouldn't allow Glee to cover Guns N' Roses' catalog, he said something that has stuck with me: "Glee is worse than Grease and Grease is bad enough." At that point Grease was almost 35 years old. It enjoyed a renaissance with a theatrical re-release in the late '90s, but it's not like Grease was begging to be invoked in Slash's takedown of Ryan Murphy's Fox show. Certainly it's a movie about peppy high schoolers who break into song, but how could a few tunes about summer lovin' and greased lightning have haunted Slash so? Grease Live!, a live Fox musical version of that John Travolta/Olivia Newton-John classic, is coming to charm off our bobby socks this Sunday. Aaron Tveit and Julianne Hough take over for Travolta and Newton-John in the lead roles while Carly Rae Jepsen plays...

Though we have to wait until January 31 to see Julianne Hough don Sandy's skintight black togs, the first preview photos of Fox's "Grease Live!", a live retelling of that classic story at Rydell High, are now available. It seems clear this version is inspired by the '78 movie version since Hough, playing the part of Sandy Olsson, is styled exactly like Olivia Newton-John. Aaron Tveit as Danny Zuko looks more like Kenickie from the movie (Jeff Conaway), but his attitude is Travoltian. And if Vanessa Hudgens isn't entering Stockard Channing lookalike contests in the near future, she's missing out. Those are very convincing imitations of the '78 cast. The only problem: Who wants to see convincing imitations of the '78 cast? "Grease" is the single most iconic musical of the 1970s. Everyone knows the songs, the look, and the way the actors were styled. In order to tell its story...

There are plenty of interesting directions a return to the Babylon 5 universe could take. Here are a few suggestions...
I read somewhere that J.M. Straczynski writes every day. That’s not surprising given his extensive body of work for television, motion pictures, novels and comics. He is best known for Babylon 5, of course. I remember what a lot of people used to say about Babylon 5, “How much can happen on a space station?” Well, a lot actually! And after five seasons of the original series, a bunch of made-for-tv movies and a couple of spin-offs, there are still plenty of stories left to tell.
That is why I was excited recently to read that Joe (apparently, he thinks you’re cool if you just call him Joe) was going back to work on Babylon 5. My excitement soon turned to dread when I found out that...

Principal photography on Pete’S Dragon commenced today in New Zealand.
A reimagining of the 1977 Disney classic, Pete’S Dragon will blend live action and CGI to tell the story of the special bond between an orphaned boy, Pete, and his best friend, Elliott, who just happens to be a dragon.
The original starred Helen Reddy, Mickey Rooney, Jim Dale, Red Buttons, Jeff Conaway, and Shelley Winters.
The new film, scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters in August, 2016, stars Bryce Dallas Howard (“The Help”) as Grace, a park ranger who discovers the existence of Elliott; 10-year-old Oakes Fegley (“This is Where I Leave You”) as Pete; Wes Bentley (“The Hunger Games”) as Jack, a local mill owner; New Zealand native Karl Urban (“Star Trek Into Darkness”) as Jack’s brother, Gavin; Oona Laurence as Natalie, the young girl who befriends Pete; and Oscar winner Robert Redford (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,...

We at BollySpice are not just excited but inspired by John Travolta having attended the Iifa awards.
As the anticipation builds up on seeing the icon strut his stuff on a Bollywood screen very soon, we at BollySpice were suddenly struck by the thought:
How Cool would a Bollywood version of Travolta’s legendary musical Grease be?!
Grease (Director: Randal Kleiser; 1978) is perfect Bollywood material.
One summer, Danny meets Sandy.
Danny and Sandy fall in love.
As the summer break ends so does their love story as they part ways.
By fate, they end up at the same school but things are not so simple. Danny has a “cool dude” reputation to maintain and doesn’t let his true feelings show… for a while!
Grease is a romantic, feel good musical on love, friendship and coming of age.
Well, we just wouldn’t let a mesmerising thought like this be left to our imaginations…...

As loyal readers of E! Online already know, Zac Efron is on our wish list of possible contenders to play Danny Zuko in Fox's upcoming Grease Live special. I let Mr. Efron know how we felt when I caught up with him at last night's premiere of his new comedy, Neighbors (in theaters May 9). "That's an honor," he said. "Those are big shoes to fill. I think I came as close to it as you could in High School Musical. "To actually do that?" he continued. "Yeah, those are big shoes." John Travolta starred as Danny in the 1978 movie adaptation of the 1971 musical. Olivia Newton-John costarred as goody two shoes Sandy Olsson. Rounding out the cast were Jeff Conaway and...

Grease is the word, have you heard? We won't deny that the first thing we did when we heard Fox was planning to air a Grease Live special in 2015 was to immediately start practicing our hand-jive. But the second thing we did? We started compiling our picks for who should fill the iconic dancing shoes of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson from the hit 1978 film (based on the original 1971 musical, of course). Then we get carried away and started dream-casting the roles of Kenickie and Rizzo, which were memorably played by Jeff Conaway (who passed away in 2011) and Stockard Channing. So which young stars would we like to see sing about "Summer Nights" come...

A boy, a girl, the breaking surf, some fumbled attempts at automobile lovin’, a hand-jive contest, a lycra-clad makeover, and a dozen of the greatest songs you’ve ever heard. With those raw ingredients, I present the latest installment of EW’s Summer Blockbuster month. Because we are “Hopelessly Devoted” to Grease, the first movie musical on this list takes the No. 18 slot. So let me tell you about it, studs.

Fact: If you want to become a male model, you must associate with disco-dancing men in devil costumes, drug addicts, and stars of "Dynasty." Did you know? Everything is Terrible has clipped together a composite reel from the 1983 ABC TV movie "Making of a Male Model" starring Joan Collins as powerful (shocking, I know) modeling agent Kay Dillon and Jon-Erik Hexum, the gorgeous '80s actor who later accidentally killed himself while playing with a gun on the set of the action series "Cover Up." You can relive his studliness in this clip, but only if you can get past the incredibly bad/excellent dialogue. It is a real treat. My favorite moments: Ted McGinley of "Happy Days" fame as the dancing devil, Jeff Conaway as a scary Jeff Conaway type, and the line, "It's a strange apple, this Big Apple."...

Andy Kaufman alive? Or Andy Kaufman hoax? New York City-born comedian Andy Kaufman, little known outside the United States but well-remembered in the U.S. by those who watched the late ’70s / early ’80s television series Taxi, is alive, married, and has a (previously unknown) grown daughter who goes by the name of McCoy. Well, if — and that’s a big if (or perhaps a small one, considering people’s willful gullibility and/or downright stupidity) — you believe the story reported in numerous outlets in the last couple of days: Andy Kaufman may have faked his own death of lung cancer at age 35 in 1984 so he could escape the limelight. (Photo: Andy Kaufman) At the New York-based Andy Kaufman Awards last Monday night, November 11, 2013, a woman claiming to be Kaufman’s daughter — calling herself "McCoy" (reportedly the name Kaufman used when checking himself into hospitals) — appeared on stage with Michael Kaufman,...

Taxi, “Like Father, Like Daughter”
Written by James L. Brooks, Stan Daniels, David Davis, Ed Weinberger
Directed by James Burrows
Aired September 12th, 1978 on ABC
Comedy pilots are hard. Even the best sitcoms often take a while to find their voice, hitting their strides halfway through season one or even in season two. The cast needs to gel, the writers and actors need to find the right levels for each character, and the series as a whole needs to establish its tone. Given a talented and motivated showrunner, writing staff, director, and cast, each of these will come, with time, but it is extremely rare for all three to come together immediately, in the pilot. As a rule, frankly, comedy pilots are bad. One exception to this rule is Taxi and its pilot, “Like Father, Like Daughter”.
The premise of Taxi is a straightforward one- it’s a workplace comedy...

Some felt it odd, considering how much groundwork was being laid on Sinclair –both during the shows first season and what had been established before the shows start. But in 1994, after the first season had wrapped, it was announced that O’Hare would not return for season two, and Bruce Boxleitner was announced as O’Hare’s replacement (albeit, a different character). Writer/director David Lowery commanded plenty of attention at this year's Sundance with his Western drama "Ain't Them Bodies Saints." It looks like cinephiles weren't the only ones watching, though. Disney's tapped Lowery to rejigger "Pete's Dragon," a strange family movie from 1977 that featured actors alongside an animated dragon named Elliott. The original film starred Helen Reddy, Mickey Rooney, Red Buttons, Shelley Winters, and the late Jeff Conaway. Lowery and Toby Halbrooks are writing the script, but there's no director attached at the moment. Although Lowery doesn't have experience working with a Disney-sized budget, snapping up indie directors for giant projects seems to be a new trend in Hollywood. Joss Whedon is a prime example of this; although he'd written scripts for big movies in the past, his main area of expertise was in TV before he was hired to helm "The Avengers." Marc Webb was known for "500 Days of...

On today's Live from E!, we discussed everything we know so far about Mindy McCready's tragic death. With her passing, Mindy becomes the fifth star of VH1's Celebrity Rehab to die after appearing on the show (others were: Rodney King, Joey Kovar, Jeff Conaway and Mike Starr). While a lot of outlets are blaming Dr. Drew Pinsky and the show, we think there's much more to the story. We examine the type of mindset that would make someone want to do made-for-tv rehab and what effect, if any, the cameras have on the whole situation. Also on the show, we discussed the first official appearance of Kate Middleton's (barely-there) baby bump! And in other royal news, Pippa Middleton reportedly has a new...

Nashville, Tenn. — The criticism of Dr. Drew Pinsky spread on the Internet almost as quickly as news of Mindy McCready's death.
The country singer with the tumultuous personal life became the fifth cast member of his "Celebrity Rehab" series to die since appearing on the show and the third from Season 3. The previous deaths stirred up rumors of a curse and a debate about the show's helpfulness. McCready's apparent suicide upped the pitch of the reaction, however.
Singer Richard Marx on Twitter compared Pinsky to Dr. Jack Kevorkian, the so-called suicide doctor: "Same results."
Marx backed off later Monday, saying the crack went too far. But he restated his thoughts in a way that summed up much of the reaction in the first 24 hours since the 37-year-old McCready's death Sunday afternoon in Heber Springs, Ark.

Mindy McCready's tragic death on Sunday makes her the fifth Celebrity Rehab patient to have died after appearing on the show. So, how did the show's leader, Dr. Drew, react to the recent news?
The celebrity doctor told Buzz Feed in part: "I am deeply saddened by this awful news. My heart goes out to Mindy's family and children. She is a lovely woman who will be missed by many. Although I have not treated her for few years, I had reached out to her recently upon hearing about the apparent suicide of her boyfriend and father of her younger children. She was devastated. Although she was fearful of stigma and ridicule she agreed with me that she needed to make her health and safety a priority."

Although I have not treated her for few years, I had reached out to her recently upon hearing about the apparent suicide of her boyfriend and father of her younger children. She was devastated. Although she was fearful of stigma and ridicule she agreed with me that she needed to make her health and safety a priority."

Country singer Mindy McCready died Sunday of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Dateline NBC correspondent Andrea Canning, who tweeted the news. She is the fifth former cast member of VH1's "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" to have died since appearing on the show.
McCready first got in trouble over her drug use in 2004, following an arrest for using a fake prescription to buy OxyContin. She appeared on the VH1 program in 2010 to kick that problem, as well as issues with alcohol and Xanax.
The question has been asked again, and again, of whether "Celebrity Rehab," which televises the drug rehabilitation process, actually helps the patient. Along with McCready, Jeff Conaway, Rodney King, Mike Starr, and Joey Kovar have all died since appearing on the program, the Daily Beast points out. Additionally, many former cast members have relapsed, making headlines in the process.

For hours on Aug. 22, Melanie Tomas stood next to Joey Kovar's coffin, refusing to leave his side, until the last of approximately 1,000 mourners finally left the Kosary Funeral Home in Evergreen Park, Ill., at 11 p.m. Even now, more than two weeks after the wake for her off-and-on boyfriend - a reality star from MTV's The Real World: Hollywood in 2008 - Tomas, 24, is struggling to make sense out of his sudden death at age 29. "Joe was in the best mind frame and direction of his life," Tomas, who is the mother of Kovar's 2-year-old daughter Maira, tells People.

Beverly Hills, Calif. -- The producer of this year's Emmy Awards said it's a challenge to decide who to include in the ceremony's memorial tribute.
About three-dozen stars and other industry notables typically are honored in the "in memoriam" segment, although many more are deserving, executive producer Don Mischer said Friday.
He said he and the TV academy identify the late actors and other TV notables who will create an "emotional response" among Emmy viewers. That drew a wry observation from Jimmy Kimmel, who will host the Sept. 23 awards on ABC.
"I love that even in death, you're subject to a popularity contest," Kimmel said.
Omissions typically are more an issue for the Oscars than the Emmys. But some viewers objected when the death of "Taxi" star Jeff Conaway wasn't noted in last year's Emmy tribute.
Other than the host, the segment is consistently the audience's favorite part of the telecast,...
