Marcia Gay Harden is reacting to CBS’ cancellation of her TV show So Help Me Todd.
“We’re all super sad. The whole cast and the crew and the writers and showrunners, everyone is really sad. We’ve had a great run with CBS,” she told Us Weekly. About why it might have happened, she mused, “Paramount is being bought by somebody. We don’t know who and so CBS had numbers to reach and whatever the mystery goes behind it, why they chose our show to go rather than another one, we don’t know.”
Keep reading to find out more…
She said their show was “one of the few original comedic and dramatic shows on CBS…And it seems like a lot of the programming is syndicated crime shows.”
She added that “CBS loved our show…[it likely] made them sad as well to have to cancel it.”

It's been nearly six months since the end of the unprecedented 2023 Hollywood labour disputes, which sent shockwaves through the entire entertainment industry with the suspension or cancellation of many popular and not-so-popular movies and TV series. Even now, however, the film and television industries do not seem to have fully recovered, as evidenced by distorted TV schedules, the shortening or bisection of new seasons of scripted shows, and sudden cancellations and renewals.
The case of CBS is particularly telling. While the network's flagship series such as Blue Bloods and Young Sheldon are in their final seasons, other projects are being actively renewed. Recently, CBS reversed its decision to cancel S.W.A.T. due to high ratings and picked up the police procedural for another season. The Good Wife spin-off Elsbeth has also been renewed for a second season.

Ethan Hawke reveals what Denzel Washington said to him the night Hawke lost his ‘Training Day’ Oscar
The year was 2002 and Ethan Hawke was up for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his work in “Training Day.” When Marcia Gay Harden read Jim Broadbent’s name, winning for “Iris,” Hawke’s co-star Denzel Washington whispered something in his ear.
It wasn’t “boom!” As Hawke revealed in a recent interview, Washington – who had already won an Oscar for “Glory” and would win a second that very night – said, “It’s better that you didn’t win. Losing was better.”
Hawke, who would go on to get three more Oscar nominations for acting (“Boyhood”) as well as screenwriting, expanded what Washington meant. “You don’t want an award to improve your status. You want to improve the award’s status,” he said. “That’s the way he thinks. That’s what I’m talking about playing with Babe Ruth. The Academy Award has more power, because Denzel has a couple.

So Help Me Todd’s cancellation news has the whole fan community raging over the unfair decision, but this time things may have gone a bit further than usual.
Apparently, over the course of its relatively short run of two seasons, the show conquered so many hearts and to such an extent that fans weren't enough with just calling CBS out on the social media.
All the fuss around the media actually makes a lot of sense. So Help Me Todd initially follows quite an original and compelling plot that revolves around goofy Todd who isn’t able to keep his life together when it starts falling apart after Todd is deprived of his investigative license.
Luckily, he’s immediately picked up by his own mother, portrayed by Oscar-winning Marcia Gay Harden, who finds him a place in her law firm. Todd’s mother has high hopes that he will...

The television world was shocked when word dropped that the CBS drama So Help Me Todd was canceled after two seasons on the network.
It was surprising because the series, while not the network's most-watched, was doing well in the ratings, and considering the state of broadcast television, a series averaging six million viewers in +7 ratings should be a lock for renewal.
But that wasn't the case, and it has us, as well as its ardent fans, seriously perplexed.
When any show gets canceled, there are various first reactions. Unfortunately, some shows have cancelation written all over them, while sometimes the news does catch people off guard.
So Help Me Todd falls into the latter, which could be a decision that haunts the Eye Network.
Why Was So Help Me Todd Canceled?

Both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas” have been canceled at CBS, Variety has learned.
“So Help Me Todd” is currently airing its second season at the broadcaster, while “CSI: Vegas” is airing its third. Both shows are scheduled to air their season finales in May, which will now serve as series finales.
The two shows were some of the few CBS shows awaiting words on their fates for next season. The only other CBS shows with pending renewal statuses are “The Equalizer” and “NCIS: Hawai’i.” They are both solid performers, with “So Help Me Todd” averaging 7.7 million viewers an episode in multiplatform Live+35 and “CSI: Vegas” averaging 7.6 million. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, CBS simply did not have enough room on the schedule to bring them back.
In addition to its many previously announced renewals, CBS already has a number of new shows set to debut next season.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.
That despite CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd being solid ratings performers. With the entire CBS schedule doing well this season and three new drama series joining in 2024-25, NCIS: Origins, Matlock and Watson (in addition to a second season of the Australian NCIS: Sydney), the network was faced with painful decisions, and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas are the least watched CBS drama series this spring in both linear and multi-platform ratings.
In most current linear Nielsen viewership (2/12 to date), CSI: Vegas, which improved its time period, is at #21 among all non-sports broadcast programs with 6.234M viewers and So Help Me Todd at #22 with 6.224M. That is more...

Streaming channels make headlines with mergers and syndication deals, but CBS has reached its level of network television success simply by maintaining a well-stocked lineup of scripted shows.
Boasting consistently high ratings, CBS proves there is indeed a large audience that tunes in for scripted television outside of streaming channels.
This is good news for viewers searching for network alternatives to reality shows.
The potentially bad news is that almost all of CBS's scripted shows are procedurals and reboots.
Is this narrow focus a conscious decision or just a response to upcoming structural changes at the network?
Two of their biggest comedies (Young Sheldon and Bob Hearts Abishola) are set to end in May. CBS's procedural landscape will also take a hit when Blue Bloods concludes its fourteen-season run this fall.
CBS has enjoyed impressive numbers over the years by coasting on Chuck Lorre's sitcoms and all of the "I" franchises: NCIS,...

Cybil Reynolds may have experienced an epic downfall in “The Morning Show’s” third season, but the woman who plays her can’t stop rising in our Emmy odds. After hovering right outside the Top 8 in February and for the majority of March, Holland Taylor recently vaulted into eighth place in our Best Drama Supporting Actress rankings. And if you haven’t added her to your own predictions yet, you might want to change that Asap.
Though “The Morning Show” is still in search of its first drama series nomination at the Emmys, it’s already proven to be a juggernaut in the acting categories. Across its first two seasons, the Apple TV Plus drama has scooped up a total of eight acting bids — five for Season 1 and three for Season 2 — and a win for Crudup in Best Drama Supporting Actor (2020).

This year’s races for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress were over before they started. Robert Downey Jr. in “Oppenheimer” and Da’Vine Joy Randolph in “The Holdovers” took leads in the Gold Derby odds in their respective categories early in the season. They both went on to pick up Golden Globe, Critics Choice, BAFTA and SAG Awards. By the time the Oscars rolled around, there was a “near zero” chance of either of them losing.
In contrast, the lead acting contests provided considerably more suspense. Bradley Cooper in “Maestro,” Paul Giamatti in “The Holdovers” and Cillian Murphy in “Oppenheimer” were all looking strong at different point in the derby, before Murphy really exploded and ultimately won the Best Actor Oscar. And Lily Gladstone in “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Emma Stone in “Poor Things” kept trading the top spot in the Best Actress odds. Gladstone finally reclaimed...

Former Netflix series Uncoupled won’t be going forward at Showtime after all.
The news comes a year after Showtime revived the comedy — which is produced by Paramount Global sibling MTV Entertainment Studios — following a cancellation at Netflix. The decision to scuttle the show comes after some work to rejigger it to fit the sensibilities of Showtime — now known as Paramount+ With Showtime after the premium cable outlet was integrated into Paramount’s flagship streaming platform.
Reps for Showtime couldn’t be reached for comment.

At the inaugural Academy Awards in 1929, native Pennsylvanian Janet Gaynor made history as the first American-born performer to win an Oscar by taking the Best Actress prize for her body of work in “7th Heaven,” “Street Angel,” and “Sunrise.” Over the subsequent 95 years, 215 more thespians originating from the United States won the academy’s favor, meaning the country has now produced 68.1% of all individual acting Oscar recipients. Considering the last decade alone, the rate of such winners is even higher, at 70.3%.
At this point, 96.8% of American-born acting Oscar victors have hailed from one of 34 actual states. Of those constituting the remainder, three originated from the federal District of Columbia, while four were born in the territory of Puerto Rico. Honestly? We’re almost surprised that So Help Me Todd didn’t put Skylar Astin‘s character in a Rear Window situation in its first season—it seems perfect for him! That’s the inspiration behind the March 14 episode, “Dial Margaret for Murder.” While in the hospital recovering from an emergency appendectomy, Todd is convinced he overheard a plot to murder someone. Sharing his hospital room with him is his personal guru, a grizzled veteran private investigator (Dean Winters‘ Dick Franks). Plus, when Margaret (Marcia Gay Harden) realizes her difficult but very important clients are interested in Todd’s theories, she jumps into the role of private investigator and brings them along for the ride. Below, Astin previews the very fun episode and teases what could be to come in Todd’s love life. Talk about Todd’s emergency appendectomy and preview how he ends up in the hospital. Everything...

Skylar Astin is adorable, and Marcia Gay Harden is brilliant, and together, on So Help Me Todd Season 1, those two became an unbeatable duo.
From the outset, the show seemed to be, intentionally, a bit of a parody of itself. Part comedy, part procedural, and part slapstick.
Even the title is a bit tongue-in-cheek, and if you watched the promos for So Help Me Todd Season 2, it's evident that the writers relish the wordplay.
Throughout the first season and so far in the second, physical comedy is a staple: Margaret falls in the water when she visits Gus on his houseboat, Lawrence accidentally ingests psychedelic mushrooms in Episode 12, and Todd bears the physical effects of getting injected for a study.
The show is intentionally light-hearted and never takes itself too seriously, even when dealing with potentially serious consequences, as was felt on So Help Me Todd Season 1 Episode 18 when a bomber threatened the firm.

Michael Keaton’s Knox Goes Away begins with hired killer John “Aristotle” Knox (Keaton) in his car, cruising through the night to the sound of a mournful saxophone. It seems like we’re gearing up for one of those long, dark nights of the soul that neo-noir thrillers thrive on, but the film proves unwilling to really drive forward into the darkness. In the end, it’s a tale of male alienation that’s a little too afraid of alienating its audience.
Knox lives alone, only interacting with other members of his morbid industry and Annie (Joanna Kulig), the Polish sex worker who comes to visit him once a week. He carries out each of his jobs with cold precision, before then stashing the money he earns with the utmost care.
