Kirsten Dunst started her career super early, as a child model, at just the age of three. Being in the industry from such a young age gave her a head start.
Despite her rising fame, the Point Pleasant native also faced challenges because of the roles that demanded intimate scenes. In the late 1990’s, she was offered a role that required her to kiss several male co-stars on a house roof.
Kirsten Dunst played Mary Jane in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy
The movie is none other than The Virgin Suicides — a novel by Jeffrey Eugenides, later adapted into a film by Sofia Coppola. It tells the story of the Lisbon sisters, five teenage girls living in suburban America in the 1970s.
Their lives are shrouded in mystery and tragedy, as they face repression, longing, and ultimately, death. But a clever trick by director Coppola enabled Dunst to maintain her...

Kirsten Dunst had no desire to be America’s sweetheart or the female lead of “American Beauty.”
The “Bring It On” alum told Variety that she was approached to play the high school cheerleader who becomes the object of a suburban dad’s (Kevin Spacey) fantasies in Sam Mendes’ 1999 film. Now, 25 years later, Dunst is revealing why she didn’t even want to audition for the role.
“I don’t know if I necessarily turned it down,” Dunst said of the role, citing that it wasn’t outright offered. “I think I just turned down the meeting or something. But yeah, I just didn’t feel comfortable with the sexuality.”
Mena Suvari was instead cast in the role and the film went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Suvari said some of the movie’s sexuality opposite Spacey — or at least the preparation for those scenes — was “weird and unusual.

He made his feature debut with the 2004 action comedy Torque, and has followed that up with the comedy Bodied and the horror film Detention – which we’ve covered for both Awfully Good and Best Horror Movie You Never Saw. Ick is coming our way from Interstellar Entertainment and producer Steven Schneider. The film aims to “evoke the timeless creature features of the 1980s with an ambitious arsenal of scares and comedy.

If there’s ever been a classic horror film that doesn’t need a sequel, it’s Carrie. Stephen King’s debut novel was masterfully adapted into a 1976 film by Brian De Palma and quickly became a runaway hit. In fact it’s likely because of the film’s success that the prolific author so quickly became a household name. Published in 1974, the semi-epistolary novel follows Carrie White, a high school senior who’s spent her life taking abuse from her ultra-religious mother and savage classmates. Finally pushed too far, Carrie unleashes her telekinetic power with a fiery vengeance that lays waste to the cruel and kind alike. De Palma faithfully adapted King’s original novel to create a terrifying exploration of long-term abuse and self-defense gone terribly wrong. The image of Carrie (Sissy Spacek) covered in blood as she walks through a burning prom has become an indelible image...

A trailer for Prey has just arrived online – and no, we’re not talking about that Predator movie that was just released a while back. This is a new movie called Prey, which Vertical will be giving a theatrical and VOD release on March 15th. It seems kind of soon to be sending another movie called Prey out into the world, but clearly Vertical disagrees. Ryan Phillippe (Shooter), Emile Hirsch (The Autopsy of Jane Doe), and Mena Suvari (American Beauty) star in this “nature run amok” survival thriller, and you can check out the trailer in the embed above. A poster for the film can be seen at the bottom of this article.

In January of 1999, two teen movies opened back to back and kicked off what would be one of the most extraordinary years for youth-oriented movies in the history of Hollywood. Both were No. 1 at the box office their first weekend. Both boasted remarkable casts of rising stars — they even shared a star in Paul Walker. And both whipped ancient genre conventions into new combinations that made them fresh and new. Yet for all their similarities, “Varsity Blues” and “She’s All That” couldn’t have been more different: one an R-rated sports drama that tempered its inspirational coming-of-age drama with surprisingly harsh depictions of misogyny and physical and mental abuse, the other a sweet, good-natured romantic comedy nearly as innocent as a Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland vehicle from the 1940s. In their similarities and differences lies the key to why 1999 was such a great year for movies of their type — the 1939 of teen movies.

Thora Birch has been performing in Hollywood since she was just a tiny tyke, famously playing Dani Dennison in the cult Halloween classic "Hocus Pocus," where she becomes the target of the malevolent Sanderson sisters. But although one of her most memorable roles came in 1993, when she was just 11 years old, that was far from the end of her career as an actress. Birch has continued to work in the industry, lending her talents to television series, films, music videos, and even podcasts over the years.
Birch's career has been defined by a few standout performances in films that captured the imaginations of audiences everywhere, but one of the most inspiring aspects of her time in Hollywood is that whenever she has been in danger of being completely subsumed by these larger-than-life roles, she shifts gears, navigating a career as a performer on her own terms. The 1999 coming-of-age comedy "American Pie" was a massive hit when it was released in 1999. Starring a who's-who of upcoming teen talent, "American Pie" delved deeply into the more embarrassing sexual details of being an adolescent boy in the modern day. There were scenes involving bodily fluids, oral sex, and multiple references to creative masturbation. While the bulk of the film -- written by Mike Herz and directed by Paul Weisz -- prided itself on aggressive raunchiness, it wisely ended on a sweet note, allowing the characters to realize that despite having had sex, they still have a lot to look forward to on their journey of growing up.
For a while in the early 2000s, Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Mena Suvari, Shannon Elizabeth, Seann William Scott, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Natasha Lyonne were household names largely because of the "American Pie" movies. To date, the series has made $990 million.

The latest cult classic to get a 4K re-release is Gregg Araki’s 1997 Gen X trip “Nowhere,” courtesy of Strand Releasing. An apocalyptic dive into a world of teens more hedonistic and revelry-making than the scary wake-up call of Araki’s “The Doom Generation” two years prior, the perverse L.A.-set “Nowhere” has a killer soundtrack including Radiohead, Slowdive, Hole, Sonic Youth, Massive Attack, Portishead, Nine Inch Nails, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and much more to add to the teenage moodiness. Strand is currently touring the restored (and uncut) film nationwide starting Friday, October 6, and IndieWire shares the exclusive new trailer below.
The cast is led by James Duval, Rachel True, Nathan Bexton, Chiara Mastroianni, Debi Mazar, Kathleen Robertson, Christina Applegate, Ryan Phillippe, Heather Graham, and Mena Suvari, with appearances from Denise Richards, Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan, and John Ritter. The coming-of-age film American Pie was one of the surprise hit movies of the 1999 film season. Fans quickly became invested in a group of high school friends and their families in the Jason Biggs, Eugene Levy, and Jennifer Coolidge-led big-screen success. Two years later, American Pie 2 revisited the friend group, now college students. However, when the third sequel, American Wedding, was filmed in 2003, many cast favorites were missing. Why was that so?
Why were so many of ‘American Pie’s’ original cast members not a part of ‘American Wedding?’
In 2003, producers of the American Pie film franchise orchestrated the wedding of Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs) and Michelle Flaherty (Alyson Hannigan) as the centerpiece of American Wedding. The movie intended to bring together the cast of the first two installments as a love letter for the characters and film fans who supported the franchise since 1999.

"He wouldn't leave without telling anybody..." Or would he...? An official trailer has debuted for an indie psychological thriller film with the most obvious and generic title ever – Dark Obsession, made by British filmmaker George Henry Horton. Not to be confused with any other dark obsession thrillers with a similar title, including 1989's Dark Obsession. A painter struggles with inner demons after being forced into a life of solitude when her husband leaves mysteriously. Do answers lie with her mother, who desperately tries to connect with her, or also her fearful neighbor? "When we first started filming, we were told by SAG we were the first pandemic film shooting in the whole of the Southern United States. That we pulled it off is nothing short of a testament to the dedication and talent of our wonderful cast and crew," the filmmakers say. This dark mystery thriller stars Blaine Morris, Mena Suvari,...

Frantic campers scavenge a park ranger’s rucksack inside his abandoned jeep. A shipwrecked sailor drags their waterproof emergency kit ashore. Apocalypse survivors raid a hardware depot after zombies chase civilization far away. Three different horror movie scenarios, all adding a holy grail item to whichever characters’ arsenal. Maybe loaded into a chamber, possibly as a roadside marker, but in any form, someone hoists an invaluable and iconic illumination tool: the almighty flare. Spark it, blast it, or blaze it for instantaneous cinematic ferocity and alarm.

Hunt Club
When a young woman (Mena Suvari) breaks up with her girlfriend (Maya Stojan) and is subsequently persuaded to go on a hunting trip with a father and son (Caspar Van Dien and Will Peltz) who witness the incident, nothing is as it seems. They haven’t told her that on this trip, she will be the prey, but there are a few things which she hasn’t told them either. When I met Hunt Club director Elizabeth Blake-Thomas, I explained that I’ve seen a lot of films about hunting humans over the years but that I couldn’t recall another one with a female director.
“It was important that we had a female director because of the subject. There was no choice, it could not be a male director. We had everything from a very strong female led team actually: the makeup, the designers, the wardrobe, the production.

Seann William Scott is the latest actor speaking out about their small paycheck in light of the actor’s strike.
The “American Pie” star — who played the iconic role of Stifler — says he went from starring in the 1999 hit to working as the churro guy at the LA zoo after he was only paid $8,000 for the entire movie.
Scott made the shocking claim while appearing on the “Rick Eisen Show”. The two played a game of truth or dare when he was asked if it was true that “American Pie” was his first feature-length film and whether he was only paid the four-figure number.
“I think so, yeah, because I remember afterwards I bought a used Thunderbird for like $5,000 or maybe $6,000, I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, baby’,” he said. “I don’t know what happened to the other $2,000 because I ended up having to work at the LA Zoo as a churro guy,...

Sometimes, there comes a movie that is shot on a low budget, but with its riveting dialogue and seriously good acting, it keeps the viewer engaged throughout its entire runtime. Unfortunately, Hunt Club, directed by Elizabeth Blake-Thomas, is not that kind of low-budget movie. It’s apparent that the budget for the film was pretty tight, and they spent most of it getting Mena Suvari and Mickey Rourke on board. The major flaw of the film is the dialogue written by David Lipper and John Saunders. The lackluster acting and editing don’t help elevate the movie at all. Sure, there are campy slasher moments that provide some pulpy fun, but the film doesn’t live up to its decent plot.
The narrative revolves around Cassandra, who befriends a suave gentleman and his son and agrees to go on a unique hunting affair on an island after they tell her about the hefty prize money.

Animal Defenders International (Adi) and celebrity supporters Mena Suvari, Alexandra Paul, Dame Joanna Lumley, and Tonya Kay are calling for positive change to end the suffering and benefit human health through the adoption of advanced non-animal methods.
