An open letter demanding that the Juilliard School take immediate action against composer Robert Beaser, the former chair of the institution’s composition department, for alleged “decades-long abuse of women and power” has been signed by more than 500 musicians and leaders in the classical music community. The letter was first published Friday.

Jennifer Lopez premiered the first trailer for “Halftime,” a new Netflix documentary looking back on her illustrious career, on her Youtube channel Wednesday.
“Halftime” is structured around the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime show, which saw Lopez headline along with fellow Latin pop icon Shakira. The film promises to feature behind-the-scenes footage of Lopez preparing for the Halftime performance, which was critically acclaimed and received an Emmy win out of four nominations.
“I’m trying to give you something with substance, not just us shaking our asses,” Lopez says in the trailer, during rehearsals for her halftime performance. “I want something real.”
The film will also feature new footage of her performing at the inauguration of President Joe Biden, where she memorably sang “This Land Is Your Land” and “America, the Beautiful,” as well as behind-the-scenes moments of Lopez during the release of her 2019 film “Hustlers.

Alfonso Cuaron just became the sixth person to reap four Oscar nominations for the same film. He contends as the producer, director, writer and cinematographer on “Roma,” his memoir of his early years in Mexico. But how many of these races will he win? To find out, let’s take a look back at how well the first four fellows to pull of this record feat fared at the Oscars.
Orson Welles made Oscar history in 1942 by earning four Oscar nominations for his first film “Citizen Kane.” He contended for producing, directing, acting and writing. He only won for the latter, sharing the Best Original Screenplay prize with Herman J. Mankiewicz. “How Green Was My Valley” won Best Picture and John Ford took home the third of his record four Best Director awards for that film. And Gary Cooper picked up the first of his two Best Actor Oscars for “Sergeant York.

Exactly 10 years ago at the 80th Academy Awards, Daniel Day-Lewis won his second Oscar as Best Actor. As he arrived on stage, he bowed before “queen” Helen Mirren as she used the statuette to knight him for his victory in “There Will Be Blood” (watch the video above).
After his surprise Oscar win for “My Left Foot” at the 1990 ceremony almost two decades earlier, Day-Lewis had become an official A-List star. He followed with memorable performances throughout the early 1990s, including “The Last of the Mohicans” and Martin Scorsese’s “The Age of Innocence.” He then received an additional Oscar nomination for “In the Name of the Father,” playing the wrongfully convicted Gerry Conlin but lost the award to Tom Hanks for “Philadelphia.”

Lickety-split is how everything goes in the latest Jason Bourne adventure starring Matt Damon and directed by Paul Greengrass, an old hand at shaping this series (The Bourne Supremacy (2004)); The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)).
For those of you unfamiliar with Mr. Bourne, a hero of Robert Ludlum’s bestselling novels, he was introduced to our local cinemas in Doug Liman’s The Bourne Identity (2002), floating face-up in the ocean, unconscious, with several bullet wounds. Picked up by a foreign fishing boat, Bourne awakens to the fact that he doesn’t know who he is. Just to make sure we get the point, he has an interior monologue that is narrated aloud: “Do you know whom I am?”
Later he asks the same question to a crooked gent (Chris Cooper) at the CIA: “Who am I?”
The response: “You're U.S. Government property. You're a malfunctioning $30 million weapon. You're a total goddamn catastrophe.

Matt Damon reunites with Paul Greengrass for this fifth instalment of the Bourne series – a head-spinning, post-Snowden cyber-thriller
With 2004’s espionage sequel The Bourne Supremacy, director Paul Greengrass changed the face of popcorn thrillers, combining the docudrama grit of Bloody Sunday with super-slick thrills that left the Bond franchise in the dust. So successful were the Bourne movies that when Greengrass and leading man Matt Damon walked away from the Robert Ludlum-inspired series after the perfect ending of 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum, the studio cooked up The Bourne Legacy, an empty actioner with a gaping hole where its star and soul should be, idly trading on the memory of past glories.
Now, after reuniting on 2010’s underrated Green Zone, Damon and Greengrass are back with Jason Bourne, a breathlessly confident thriller with a self-consciously modern edge that casts its antihero adrift in a post-Snowden world of surveillance and social media.

Chicago – To come back to a character that everyone thought he had left behind, Matt Damon needed the right creative team. He got it again in co-writer (with Christopher Rouse) and director Paul Greengrass, and together they fashioned a paranoid spy tale in the rat-a-tat “Jason Bourne.”
Rating: 4.0/5.0
The strength of the story is in its modern context. The underground Bourne re-emerges in riot torn Greece (during its economic crisis), the CIA is in cahoots with a social media billionaire, plus the hackers and the rogue agents are more heroic than our institutions of “law and order.” The multi-layering of a desperate world blends with Matt Damon’s desperate character, a bitter killing machine trying to remember anything about a past that was taken away from him.
Ex-special agent Jason Bourne is in the “freezer,” as they say at the CIA, and he spends his days bare knuckle brawling on the Greek/Albanian border.

Jason Bourne, the fourth film in the Bourne franchise starring Matt Damon, is debuting in theaters this weekend to mixed reviews. Director Paul Greengrass, working from a screenplay he co-wrote with Christopher Rouse, opens Jason Bourne with the titular protagonist living off-the-grid, earning rent money by engaging in street fights. Unlike past installments, this time around Bourne […]

Almost every A-list actor seems to have a franchise these days. In the case of Matt Damon, his is the Bourne series, of which he’s starred in three of the four outings (only missing The Bourne Legacy). On Friday, Bourne is back in Jason Bourne, with Damon back as well, alongside filmmaker Paul Greengrass. After a successful trilogy for Damon in The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum, he and Greengrass, who helmed Supremacy and Ultimatum, left for other interests. They’re in the fold again though, making this a summer action blockbuster that’s been hotly anticipated. Saw the film earlier this week and while I wasn’t blown away, I suspect fans of the franchise will be satisfied. Jason Bourne is made for them, after all. The movie is a continuation of the franchise, with Jason Bourne (Damon) living off the grid and mostly...

Opening Friday, July 29th is Jason Bourne. Paul Greengrass, the director of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, once again joins Matt Damon for the next chapter of Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise, which finds the CIA’s most lethal former operative drawn out of the shadows.
On Wednesday July 20 at The Village in Meridian, Idaho, Damon and producer Frank Marshall treated moviegoers with a first look at the movie. Matt Damon walked the red carpet while fans of the films posed for selfies with the actor.
The two brought the fifth film in the black-ops thriller series to the Boise suburb for an advance screening and to help raise money for the Treasure Valley Ymca’s new South Meridian Family Ymca.
For Jason Bourne, Damon is joined by Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones, while Julia Stiles reprises her role in the series.

It's been nearly 10 years since Matt Damon thundered around as Jason Bourne. He even said that The Bourne Ultimatum was his last outing as the character. And so did director Paul Greengrass. But shit happens and trucks full of money back up to houses. Whatever happened, Greengrass and Damon have teamed up again for Jason Bourne. So the band is back together, granted it's missing writer Tony Gilroy who was so pivotal in the other Bourne movies. Instead, Greengrass is teaming up with his long time Editor, Christopher Rouse. Which seems a bit bizarre, especially when you consider that this is Rouse's first writing gig. But before you go looking for flammable pitchforks, Rouse has been the editor on the last two Bourne movies as well. So, he knows the character and knows him quite well. As does Greengrass and of course Damon does too. So why am I waffling...

From its beginning, the Bourne series has been defined by a minimalist approach to narrative. Beneath the jargon about multi-tentacled, global terrorist conspiracies and the encroaching dangers of cyber-warfare, it’s fundamentally about the thrills of watching Matt Damon punch things really, really hard. Director Paul Greengrass and cinematographer Barry Ackroyd have been indispensable in bringing across the series’ signature throttling energy and perpetual motion. But Jason Bourne, the fifth installment in the long-running (loose) adaptation of Robert Ludlum’s novels, proves one thing: even the Bourne films can’t succeed with only lived-in camerawork.
Simultaneously pretentious, mind-numbingly tedious, and dizzyingly incoherent from scene to scene, Jason Bourne is the definition of diminishing returns. Greengrass and Ackroyd are still nearly unprecedented in their ability to drop into the chaos of action and, more crucially, the ecosystem of conversation. Every scene is still a hurricane as the camera moves with the...

In every movie in the Bourne series (except for Legacy), there comes that moment. You know the one. Some shadowy government scumbag is convinced they’ve got the drop on Bourne, and they’re celebrating their accomplishment only to have the phone ring or the computer screen come on just in time for Bourne to tell them that he’s looking at them through a sniper’s scope or he’s recorded them threatening to kill the President or he’s got naked pictures of them and a goat, and as they realize just how screwed they are, here comes the Moby on the soundtrack and there goes Bourne, back into the shadows until next time. The problem is, the charm has definitely faded, and Jason Bourne proves to be one trip too many to the well, lapsing into accidental self-parody in places. There are scenes I dug and a few set-pieces that work,...

Note to Hollywood: July 4th was weeks ago, so screw you for making us wait so long for the real-deal action-movie fireworks. They show up big time in Jason Bourne, that rare summer thrill ride that doesn't sell out to stupid. Everything looks great on paper here: Damon’s brawny presence; the smartly staged action, etc. And it’s not unfun. But it feels less black ops than old hat. I’m “biast” (pro): big fan of the Bourne series
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
It’s been nine years since we last saw Matt Damon racing around the world and beating people up as brainwashed assassin Jason Bourne… and the weight of those interim years rests heavily upon this fourth installment. Oh, it’s not that Damon (The Martian, Interstellar), now 46 years old, isn’t up to the physical demands of the role. In fact, his Bourne is significantly beefier here: bigger, more intimidating, just plain more dangerous in an all-muscle kind of way. (Bourne appears to have been scraping out a meager living since we last saw him...

All good things come to an end, and once they do, they’re usually better off left that way. So now we have “Jason Bourne,” a sequel to a franchise that didn’t need continuation. The first three chapters in the “Bourne” franchise were a rarity among modern American action movies: smart, fast and fun, they rarely wasted a frame — and best of all, they ended in peak form, with the relentless “The Bourne Ultimatum” in 2007. But the studio had other ideas, pressing ahead with another tale of a brainwashed government henchman rebelling against his overlords in “The Bourne Legacy” after Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass had their fill. Now Damon and Greengrass have been coaxed back to resuscitate the series’ appeal, but even they can’t seem to muster more than a shrug.

Paul Greengrass and his star have upped the tech and chucked in references to Snowden, but it’s basic Bourne that remains most persuasive
Here it is: Matt Damon’s fourth and not necessarily final outing as the CIA’s amnesiac super-assassin gone rogue, Jason Bourne. That’s after The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) and not counting franchise spinoff The Bourne Legacy (2012) in which Bourne himself did not actually appear.
This latest iteration reunites Damon with director Paul Greengrass who as ever shows his mastery of muscular, deafening, frenetically edited action sequences - the visual equivalent of a drum-roll. Greengrass, who has co-written the film with his editor Christopher Rouse, whisks us to cities all over the world and the drama here culminates in an eye-poppingly spectacular finale in Las Vegas, whose skyline is dominated by the Trump hotel.

Universal has released a new poster and TV spot for the upcoming Jason Bourne movie, which sees Matt Damon back in action as the perennially confused ass-kicker. The one-sheet also features his co-star Alicia Vikander, who's mysterious character is listed only as "cyberspecilaist". The perfect weapon returns. These TV spots for the upcoming Jason Bourne movie just seem to be getting more and more revealing. This newest spot actually sheds some light on Bourne’s past, specifically his dad. I’m going to throw up a Spoiler warning just in case you don’t want to learn any more than that.
Judging from what I'm seeing in the clip, Tommy Lee Jones' CIA director is kind of a villain who had Bourne's father killed. It was this tragedy that took Bourne down the road of volunteering for the agent program in the first place. This is definitely a big piece of info to reveal, and I'm surprised they didn't let people wait to see the movie to find it out.
This is an intense preview, though, and Bourne is on the hunt for truth, justice, and revenge. The movie hits theaters on July 29th, 2016.
The Paul Greengrass-directed film stars Matt Damon, Christopher Rouse, Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, and Vincent Cassel.

Bourne is back. After many rumors they might return, Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon recently teamed up for the fifth iteration in the spy franchise and their third together. With a reboot-esque title of Jason Bourne this one promises to begin a new chapter for the lethal former operative. Also starring Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel, Tommy Lee Jones, and Julia Stiles, the first full trailer has now arrived ahead of a July release.
“Since 2007, so much has changed,” Damon tells EW, speaking about the plot. “There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyber warfare and civil liberties – things that are slowly coming to into the zeitgeist as we start to grapple with what the future is going to look like. And so those are kind of somewhere in the stew of our story. If you look at the first three, they are films that...

You know his name. Come July, moviegoers will be welcoming the long-anticipated return of Jason Bourne, with today’s stylish new action shot giving us a peek at Matt Damon’s trained agent giving chase.
Darting between protestors and other activists, it’s unclear as of yet exactly who Bourne is tailing – friend or foe, they’re surely in for a stern talking to – though expect more details to be unveiled when Universal premieres the reboot’s full-length trailer.
Circling back to that image in question, it arrives by way of Entertainment Weekly, who quizzed director Paul Greengrass – returning at the helm of the series after close to a decade – about this particular, and seemingly very intense, sequence.
Here’s what he said:
“It’s the kind of action sequence you can only see in a Bourne movie. It marries action with a really intense, emotionally truthful next chapter in the Jason Bourne story.

Jason Bourne is back, but he doesn't feel the same way about early-2000s nostalgia as you might. You see, he remembers everything (except for the rules of the road), and he's ready for the biggest punch party of the year. Recall how upset Matt Damon looked in producer Frank Marshall's first pic, multiply that level of frowning by a few, and you'll get the mad, road-rage-y "perfect weapon" you see in the first-look teaser above. Bourne vet Paul Greengrass helmed this project, which may or may not be about cyberwarfare, with writing help from Christopher Rouse. Their movie — also with Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel, Tommy Lee Jones, and Julia Stiles — comes to theaters July 29, just in time to save the world and boost hand wrap sales.
