- After World War II he did not continue his career as a cinematographer for the cinema, he only shot few documentaries.
- The cinematographer Carl Drews finished an education as a film lab assistant and at the age of only 14 he already got the chance to work as an assistant for the cinematographer Franz Mletzko who shot documentaries.
- His professional development became interrupted with the conscription to the army during World War I. After the war he gained a foothold in the film business where he started as a cinematographer from 1920.
