John McNaughton remembers the first time he read the script for Wild Things, the rampantly sexy neo-noir from 1998. The director – then best known for the grim, ever-contentious Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer – needed a commercial film. “To ingratiate myself into Hollywood to some degree,” he tells me.
In the story, two Florida teens from opposite sides of the tracks – bitchy socialite offspring Kelly (Denise Richards) and swamp-dwelling trailer trash Suzie (Neve Campbell) – accuse their dishy guidance counsellor Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon) of rape. Lombardo is then investigated by dodgy cop Ray Duquette (Kevin Bacon).
“I was lying in bed reading the script and I could see it coming that Matt Dillon was falsely accused,” recalls McNaughton. “I thought, Ok this is some TV movie, I know where this is going, so I skipped ahead to the last three pages.” But the end was so unexpected that McNaughton had “no...

The only thing you probably remember about the 1998 film Wild Things is Neve Campbell and Denise Richards making out in a pool (Matt Dillon who?). Poor Kevin Bacon's brief full-frontal nudity was overshadowed. In the era of Spring Breakers it seems tame, but the scene was fairly racy for the time. Two direct-to-video sequels were released, and no one has cared about Wild Things since. The original film's director John McNaughton is hanging onto hope that he can revive the story, however, according to The Playlist. In an interview with Hollywood.com, McNaughton revealed a few details about a follow-up he's working on with screenwriter Stephen Peters. "It’s not one of the sequels, but about their children. Do you know the Amanda Knox case...

Much as 1998’s Wild Things proved a timely, metaphorical examination of the Iraq disarmament crisis by having two sexy ladies make out in a pool, director John McNaughton has plans for a sequel that could similarly provide insight into current events—specifically, the Amanda Knox murder trial, easily the hottest and naughtiest of all horrible murder trials. Speaking to Hollywood.com, McNaughton said he and screenwriter Stephen Peters are currently developing the follow-up Wild Child Things, making clear that their Amanda Knox-inspired Wild Things movie is not a sequel, as that would be utterly tasteless—a tacky exploitation of ...

“Wild Things” came out in 1998 to a mixed response, to put it lightly. Most of you probably remember it as the film where Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, and Matt Dillon get it on. Believe it or not, there have been three sequels to the film, all coming out straight to video. So one would assume that the “Wild Things” well has pretty much run dry at this point, after all, the “franchise” has essentially evolved into soft-core porn flicks. But, John McNaughton, director of the 1998 film, has an idea for a “Wild Things” sequel that may actually perk your interest, or at least make you laugh at just how ridiculous it sounds.Speaking to Hollywood.com, McNaughton has revealed that he and screenwriter Stephen Peters are indeed working on a “Wild Things” follow-up. “It’s not one of the sequels, but about their children,” he continues, “Do you know the Amanda Knox case?...

"Wild Things" director John McNaughton tells Hollywood.com that he and screenwriter Stephen Peters are working on another "Wild Things" movie.
The pair were also behind two direct-to-dvd sequels to the 1998 cult film, but they say this one will be quite different:
"It's not one of the sequels, but about their children. Do you know the Amanda Knox case? It's something like that. Something that's like the child of Suzie Toller [Campbell's character], she claimed that Matt Dillon's [character] had raped her a long time ago and maybe there is a child and maybe Bill Murray's character had a child and they're exchange students and things get out of hand. We're calling it Wild Child Things."
The story doesn't have a studio, distributor or cast as yet.

John McNaughton, who directed the 1998 film "Wild Things," starring Matt Dillon, Denise Richards, Neve Campbell, Kevin Bacon and Bill Murray, hasn't worked for over a decade. But now, the helmer has revealed that he's planning to get behind the camera again for a new sequel to "Wild Things." In an interview with Hollywood.com, McNaughton said that he and Stephen Peters, who wrote the original film, as well as the direct-to-dvd sequels "Wild Things 2" and "Wild Things: Diamonds in the Rough," have already worked out the story, which will focus on the children of the original characters. "It's not one of the sequels, but about their children," he said. "Do you know the Amanda Knox case? It's something like that. If you take a few moments to brainstorm the shittiest ideas for film sequels that could also turn out to be amazing, you might instinctively come up with a few humorous answers, like Who Else Framed Roger Rabbit? or The Great Dictator 2: Even Greater. But no one in their right mind would ever stumble upon saying .a Wild Things sequel.. But that just means you're not director John McNaughton, whose right-mindedness is up in the air. McNaughton told Hollywood.com that another Wild Things film is in the works, and that he.s working on it with screenwriter Stephen Peters, who wrote the original film as well as Wild Things 2 and Wild Things: Diamonds in the Rough. But forget about everything you.ve seen after the first one, because they want the new sequel to tell the story of the original movie's characters' children. Let this quote sink...

The cast simmered in the 1998 thriller, Wild Things. James looks back at a film full of unexpected twists...
Ah, the 90s sex thriller. I wonder if Paul Verhoeven knew exactly what he was about to unleash upon the world when in 1991 he instructed Sharon Stone to uncross her legs and Michael Douglas to wear a green jumper to a disco?
Basic Instinct kicked started a movie trend that would run for most of the remaining decade with varying results. The Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone, cops and rompers caper was decent enough, but in its wake followed a trail of films of varying quality. Disclosure and Sliver proved that lightning wouldn’t strike twice for Basic Instinct’s two main stars, while Showgirls did the same for their director, who upgraded his directorial instruction for Elizabeth Berkeley during her sex scenes to “act like you’re being attacked by a shark”. Meanwhile,...
