Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden wrapped up a weekend of fundraising in Los Angeles on Sunday, with a record amount raised.
More than $15 million was raised through the weekend, including for the Biden Victory Fund, said campaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg, founding partner of WndrCo. That is the most raised for a single visit to Los Angeles of any president or presidential candidate, he said.
It also surpassed the amount raised by Barack Obama in May, 2012, when Obama headlined a fundraiser at the home of George Clooney and co-hosted by Katzenberg. That fundraising trip brought in almost $15 million.
Through the weekend, Biden and the first lady headlined seven events, including private gatherings with high-dollar donors and a Hollywood-centric fundraiser on Friday evening at the Holmby Hills home of James Costos, the former U.S. ambassador to Spain, and designer Michael Smith. Last month, Texas Congressman Joaquin Castro put out a call to the public, asking people to send ideas for music by Latin artists to submit to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. It’s part of a years-long effort on Castro’s part to get more Latin art preserved within the Library of Congress and to increase Latino representation across media and pop culture.
The National Recording Registry is made up of works considered “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” or that “inform or reflect life in the United States.

Last week, Bad Bunny became the first Latin artist to headline Coachella. During his Weekend 2 set, the Puerto Rican rapper kept the celebration going, enlisting several Puerto Rican and Mexican artists to honor their Latin heritage.
After welcoming Mexican band Grupo Frontera, Bad Bunny left the stage to allow the group to perform “un x100to,” “No Se Va,” and “Bebe Dame.” The rapper returned to the stage in full ranchero attire to sing his part of the first track, a collaboration between the artists they just unveiled last week.
From there, Puerto Rican rapper Ñengo Flow and reggaeton duo Jowell & Randy joined Bad Bunny for “Safaera,” and rapper Jhayco came out to perform “Dákiti,” “Tarot,” and his own song “No Me Conoce.” The legendary musician José Feliciano also made an appearance, joining Bad Bunny for “La Canción” and “Yonaguni.”

Mindy Kaling was among the guests of honor at the White House on March 21. During a special ceremony, President Joe Biden presented Kaling with the National Medal of Arts, an accolade bestowed upon individuals or groups who have demonstrated "outstanding contributions to the excellence, growth, support and availability of the arts in the United States," according to the National Endowment For the Arts. The actor and television producer was in great company, with Gladys Knight, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Bruce Springsteen also in attendance.
"Nothing is perfect, but yesterday was pretty close."
"A little while ago, I got a call from Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson that the National Endowment of the Arts and the office of the President wanted to give me the National Medal of Arts for my work in television and as an author," Kaling recalled in an Instagram post following the event. "I'm still processing how to receive the news.

“Vice President Harris, Second Gentleman, former president Selina Meyer, welcome to the White House,” President Joe Biden said Tuesday, opening a ceremony for the 2021 National Medals of Arts and the National Humanities Medals recipients.
Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus was among “23 extraordinary Americans,” as Biden described them, awarded honors today in a star-studded East Room gathering. Praising “my friend President Julia Louis-Dreyfus” as “one of the most decorated comedic actors of our time,” Biden made a point of noting that “she embraces life’s absurdity with absolute wit.”
“I’m going to talk to Julia later about whether she liked being VP or President better,” Biden quipped.
Of course, even with the 2019 conclusion of the Emmy-winning Veep, Biden and Louis-Dreyfus/Meyer have a long history on and off the screen. Along with the actor’s appearance at the virtual 2020 Democratic National Convention, it is a relationship perhaps best exemplified by a...

One of the most exciting parts of Grammy season is observing those races that could mean more than just a Grammy. In many cases, artists are looking to make awards show history when they get nominated, and in 2023 we might have a few of those coming to fruition.
Beyoncé
Beyoncé is definitely no stranger to awards. The R&b/pop diva is the most nominated artist in Grammy history, tied with her husband and rapper Jay-Z at 88 nominations. Beyoncé is also the most awarded vocalist ever at the Grammys — but not the most awarded person. Composer Georg Solti still holds that record, winning a whopping 31 Grammys compared to Beyoncé’s 28. However, with nine nominations this year, it is not outside the realm of possibility for Beyoncé to at least tie with the late composer. The singer currently leads Gold Derby’s odds to win Album of the Year, Best R&b Performance,...

One of the most exciting parts of every award show is watching long-standing records break. For the 2023 Grammys, multiple artists are in a good position to make history. Let’s look at a few artists who can leave their mark on Grammys history.
SEE2022 Latin Grammys preview: Rosalia, Bad Bunny and more big names to expect at 23rd annual awards Bruno Mars
One of the biggest Grammy darlings in recent years has been Bruno Mars. The pop and R&b singer-songwriter has claimed 15 Grammys over his career so far, most of them in the past six years. Among those 15 Grammys, he has won three for Record of the Year, tying Paul Simon for the most wins by an artist.
However, Mars could easily un-tie and win his fourth Record of the Year Grammy as soon as next year due to his hit “Smokin Out the Window” with Silk Sonic partner Anderson .Paak.

Some are cult faves that never crossed over; others were short-lived hits that didn’t get kissed by the rerun gods. And some were just plain trash. But as Oscar the Grouch used to sing, we love trash — anything dirty or dingy or dusty. Here are a dozen shows that didn't make our "100 Greatest TV Shows" list but damn,...

Adam Miller Who Would Give His Only Song Away (Chelsea Records)
When Wes Farrell, the man who penned the perennial evergreen "Hang On Sloopy," and was overseer to the phenomenal chart successes of the Partridge Family and David Cassidy, set up his own record label in 1972, his maiden release wasn't a sure fire pop confection. He began proceedings with an exquisitely crafted collection of psych outsider introspection. Adam Miller, his new discovery and recipient of this gracious act of faith didn't set the world aflame, he didn't even darken it's edge, and today remains unknown, his album the victim of at best a misreading of the small print one is required to field when stumbling across an artist with no fame attached to the name above the title, more than four decades after the event. Chelsea Records became an outlet for pop and disco, especially the wonderfully camp and catchy Disco Tex and his Sexolettes,...

A review of tonight's "Fargo" coming up just as soon as I find out if Joan Crawford had crabs... "Do you really think we'll get out of this mess we're in?" -Lou After being alluded to throughout the season's first four episodes, Ronald Reagan finally appears in the fleshy form of Bruce Campbell (who's having himself quite the fall, between this and "Ash vs. Evil Dead"). Reagan — even more than most American presidents of the TV age, given his acting background — is difficult to portray as anything but a caricature, but Campbell is able to get across the essence of the man whom many Americans believed could finally pull the country out of the morass it was in from Vietnam, Watergate, gas lines, and Jimmy Carter's comments about our national malaise. When he busts out his "shining city on a hill" rhetoric (which the real Reagan famously used in...

San Juan, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rican salsa legend Cheo Feliciano died in a car accident early Thursday, prompting the governor of the U.S. territory to declare three days of mourning. Feliciano, a member of the Fania All Stars, was one of the most recognized salsa singers, with hits including "Una en un millón," ''Mi promesa," and "Contigo aprendi." The 78-year-old Feliciano was alone in his Jaguar when he hit a light post before dawn in the northern suburb of Cupey. Police officer Jorge Hernandez Pena, who is overseeing investigation of the crash, said in a phone interview that Feliciano was not wearing his seatbelt. He said it is unclear what led to the crash, adding that officials did not find any drugs or alcohol in the car. His wife of 56 years, Socorro "Coco" Prieto Leon, told reporters that Feliciano had been at a casino Wednesday night. "He was...

The holiday season arrives and actress Anne Hathaway wanted to take some time to wish everyone a "Feliz Navidad" from the “bottom of her heart” in a very peculiar way.
The actress, who is currently in the middle of a tour to promote her new film musical "Les Miserables", took the opportunity to show off her beautiful voice, singing the popular song "Feliz Navidad”, composed by Puerto Rican singer and musician Jose Feliciano.
This is not the first time a Hollywood star has tackled a rendition of the popular holiday tune. During the promotion of their movie “Bad Teacher”, Justin Timberlake and Jason Segal were also happy to demonstrate their impressive bilingual skills singing and dancing to the classic.
Check out Anne Hathaway, Justin Timeberlake, Jason Segal and other stars' very original versions of "Feliz Navidad” above.

A new documentary about lost Detroit musician Sixto Rodriguez – once touted as the new Dylan – opens an unexpected window on the secret history of white South Africa
Two moments from the classic mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap will surely occur to you while watching this funny, sad, flawed documentary about a casualty of the 1970s Detroit music scene. The first is when Tap are devastated to hear from a local DJ that they reside in the "Where Are They Now?" file; the second is when they ecstatically discover that they are big in Japan.
In 1970, a Mexican-American singer-songwriter called Sixto Rodriguez released an album called Cold Fact, a collection of the poetic and socially engaged songs that he'd been singing around the bars and dives of Detroit, Michigan – songs like "Sugar Man", about drugs. I hadn't heard of him before this film; he's a stylish, mysterious figure in dark glasses,...

The spray-on kitsch is fairly hard to take, but even harder to take is that the organisers actually take it seriously
✒It's the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday, the 57th. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it was the last? At least for us. BBC1 could put on reruns of Flog It!, or pro-celebrity badminton. The song contest would disappear on to one of those cable channels with audiences so small they can't be measured – Eurosport 3, perhaps.
Because it is so utterly, horribly grim. Acts which would not get a gig on Ladies' Night at the Baku Freemasons appear in front of millions singing like a cement mixer tackling Celine Dion's greatest hits, or, because they are always decades behind, doing punk in Finnish, or there's some preening poltroon in sky-blue vinyl who resembles a rapper as much as I sound like Jose Feliciano.

Singer Jose Feliciano is getting a ton of negative comments about his performance of the National Anthem at the opening of Marlins Park in Miami. People have taken to Twitter to express their feelings about it.
"Like with The Fray, I'd delete Jose Feliciano off my iTunes for that National Anthem. But there is no Jose Feliciano on my iTunes," one person wrote.
"Judging by The Fray's performance and the thumbs down Jose Feliciano is getting as an anthem singer, there may be hope for Macy Gray."
"Hey Jose Feliciano, go the route of The Fray and never perform an anthem again. #Marlins"
"Oh, I thought Jose Feliciano was dead."
Of course, this isn't the first time he caused controversy with the National Anthem. Feliciano performed the song at the World Series in 1968 and was booed. One Twitter post says, "The Fray sings crappy version of National Anthem and people clap,...
