The NBC daytime drama, Another World (Aw) first aired on May 4, 1964. Created by soap icons William J. Bell and Irna Phillips, it centered around life in the small town of Bay City.
Sadly, the show was canceled in June 1999, and while it’s been gone for a while, it has been far from forgotten by fans.
Karen McKenney, super fan and the admin for the Facebook page, Another World Memories, took on the major task of organizing a reunion event for past viewers of the show, as well as cast, to celebrate the soap’s 60th anniversary this year, in Tarrytown, New York.
Soap Opera Digest (Sod) spoke with Aw alum Linda Dano (ex-Felicia Gallant) to get some insight on how fans can be a part of the event, and what they can expect.

Death is the ultimate leveler. It comes for everyone in the end, no matter your station in life. Never is that more unsettlingly apparent than in 1988’s The Blob, directed by Chuck Russell from a script he co-wrote with Frank Darabont. The creature feature lets loose a gelatinous pink blob of goo upon the small town of Arborville, California, where it wreaks havoc with its insatiable appetite. It doesn’t care about archetypical hero or villain roles; its sole aim is to devour.
The eponymous Blob acts as a giant slithering stomach, dissolving its food for digestion with extreme acidity. That means that not only is the body count high for this ever-growing creature, but the deaths are deliciously mean-spirited and unforgettable thanks to gruesome special makeup effects from Tony Gardner and an incredible team of artists. Russell and Darabont reinforce the SFX showcase with unpredictability and meticulous characterization to...

There's an expression you may have heard about "Avatar: The Way of Water," and that expression is this: "Never bet against James Cameron."
After all, James Cameron has directed one gigantic hit film after another, ever since his modestly budgeted breakout "The Terminator" got him gigs directing the action-packed monster movie "Aliens," followed by the ambitious undersea epic "The Abyss," the groundbreaking "Terminator II," the blockbuster action comedy "True Lies," and hey, did you ever hear about "Titanic" and "Avatar?" They made quite a bit of money. Just thought you should know, in case you somehow missed that.
Although fans might be eager to paint Cameron as an infallible hit machine, his directing career actually started with a critically lambasted dud: "Piranha II: The Spawning," a 1982 sequel to Joe Dante's 1978 horror comedy "Piranha," which was itself an unapologetic rip-off of "Jaws." It was an inauspicious debut for the future Oscar-winning filmmaker,...

The 1970s were the heyday of eco-terror and “animals gone wild” horror movies, but that doesn’t mean the ’80s didn’t get their fair share of entries in the genre. Though advancements in practical effects determined that slashers and creature features became much more popular during the decade, killer animals still found their way into a number of ’80s horror movies. Two of those entries now make their way to Blu-ray from Scream Factory: one a notorious first feature from a great director and the other an underseen gem.
Though notorious for being the first feature-length directorial credit for future Academy Award winner/King of the World James Cameron (there’s a sticker on Scream Factory’s new Blu-ray selling the movie as such), Piranha II: The Spawning—or Piranha II: Flying Killers as the title appears on screen—bears almost no resemblance to a Cameron movie outside the...

Before we roll into August, we have one last round of July home media releases to look forward to, even if this week is one of the lightest weeks I’ve seen all year, with only three horror titles making their way home on Tuesday. Scream Factory is giving Piranha II: The Spawning a Blu-ray release, Vinegar Syndrome has resurrected The House of the Dead on Blu-ray, and Warner Archive has given Village of the Damned (1960) an HD overhaul as well.
The House of the Dead
Four tales of intrigue and horror await anyone brave enough to enter the House Of The Dead... When a philandering husband accidentally finds himself lost during a rainstorm, he's taken in by an elderly mortician and is forced to learn the ghastly origins of four freshly arrived corpses: a scornful teacher whose students teach her a fatal lesson, an amateur filmmaker with a deadly muse,...

She scored outrageous success with her landmark internet series Venice, now Emmy-winning actress-producer Crystal Chappell (Guiding Light, The Bold and the Beautiful) is about to bring us another web potboiler, Beacon Hill. The series, which begins streaming March 5, is set against the cutthroat world of Massachusetts politics and features lots of lesbian steam and a cast of daytime greats, including Sarah Brown (General Hospital), Alicia Minshew and Ricky Paull Goldin (All My Children), Tina Sloan and Ron Raines (Guiding Light), Melissa Archer, Jessica Morris and John-Paul Lavoisier (One Life to Live), Scott Bryce (As the World Turns) and Louise Sorel (Days of Our Lives). TV Guide Magazine caught up with the über-busy Chappell to get an exclusive preview.

Ricky Paull Goldin has found his next daytime-tv destination, joining CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful as Jesse, the bad-seed father of Maya’s child and thus an imminent thorn in Rick’s side.
“I’ve always been cast as the hero with a few flaws,” Goldin tells TV Guide Magazine of choosing his latest gig. “Jesse is a really dark guy with a lot of potential layers and that’s very attractive to me.
Goldin, whose previous soap opera credits include Guiding Light, Another World and All My Children, will first air on May 15.

GoldDerby posters are divided about the race for Best Actor at this year's Daytime Emmy Awards, airing this Sunday, June 19, on CBS. Two of our pundits give best odds to James Scott (“Days of Our Lives”) but two more put Michael Park (“As the World Turns”) out front. Scott and Park face off against Ricky Paull Goldin (“All My Children”), Maurice Benard (“General Hospital”), and Christian LeBlanc (“The Young and the Restless”). In the drama categories at the Daytime Emmys, voters selected two actors from each of the seven eligible soaps to compete as “pre-nominees.” The pre-nominees were then whittled down to the final five or six nominees based on sample episodes, which are edited to include only the actor's scenes. Because nominees and winners are decided in the same round, the Emmy winners were already decided when the nominations were revealed. GoldDerby posters viewed the same sample e...

Axed U.S. soaps All My Children and One Life To Live are set to go out with a bang after scoring a combined total of 25 nominations for the 2011 Daytime Emmy Awards.
Earlier this year, ABC network bosses announced All My Children will come to an end in September after 41 years on air, while One Life To Live will also be scrapped following a 43-year run.
But the shows look set to dominate the 38th annual Daytime Emmys - All My Children, which has 13 nominations, is up for Outstanding Drama Series, competing against The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital and The Young and the Restless, while its stars Alicia Minshew, Debbi Morgan and Ricky Paull Goldin will all do battle in the Leading Drama Actor categories.
All My Children's Melissa Claire Egan will go up against One Life To Live actress Bree Williamson for Best Supporting Drama Actress title, alongside the likes of Julie Pinson (As The World Turns), Heather Tom (The Bold and the Beautiful) and Tricia Cast (The Young and the Restless), while Williamson's co-star Brian Kerwin will fight for Best Supporting Drama Actor, a category which includes Jonathan Jackson and Jason Thompson from General Hospital.
Medical drama series General Hospital leads the nominations with 21, while The Young and The Restless garnered 20 and children's show Sesame Street earned 16.
Comedienne-turned-talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is also set for a big night after taking 12 nods, including Outstanding Talk Show - pitting The Ellen DeGeneres Show against The View, Regis & Kelly and Rachael Ray.
DeGeneres' hit programme also gained recognition for direction, set design and make-up, although the star herself failed to land a nomination for Outstanding Talk Show Host - a title she has won four times before. Instead, The View's star-studded line-up - consisting of Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Barbara Walters - will battle against the presenters of Regis & Kelly, Rachael Ray, The Doctors and Dr. Oz for the top TV category.
The nominees for the 2011 Daytime Emmy Awards, which celebrate the best in U.S. TV production, were announced early on Wednesday.
The winners will be unveiled at a ceremony in Las Vegas on 19 June. Actor/comedian Wayne Brady will host.

Combined, 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live' cover more than 80 years of television and boast legions of fans, but that didn't stop ABC from announcing yesterday that the two Agnes Nixon-created soap operas will be leaving the airwaves. The Inspiration Behind Japan Calls
By Tanya Meyers and Michelle "Moey" Mariano
After the travesties that hit Japan earlier this month, many were left wondering what they could do. Texting 90999 to the Red Cross was one way, or donating to a separate charity or even flying out to help directly… But for a lot of us, there wasn’ t much money to give, and anything more direct was near impossible, so all there was left to do was brainstorm.
Thus the idea for Japan Calls came about.
It started out as a very simple idea, inspired greatly by TwitChange. But many entertainers weren't on Twitter, or were already more accessible than huge names like Eva Longoria and Justin Bieber. So what more could celebrities give that people would be willing to donate toward? What would be a step above a simple text on the screen of an individual’ s computer?...

The Best Actor race at the Daytime Emmy Awards is shaping up to be one of the most interesting of recent years, with every soap opera having to decide between multiple veteran performers who have submitted their name for consideration. From these pre-nomination contenders, the cast will vote on only one or two actors to represent the show. Beyond the previously-discussed frontrunners, there are both possibilities and spoilers who could contend. Screen time is the biggest factor when considering the worthiness of these men to submit in the lead race. On “All My Children,” Walt Willey (Jackson Montgomery) should submit in the supporting race. He is unlikely to prevail over actors like Ricky Paull Goldin or Darnell Williams who both had more airtime and a much wider range of material from which to choose. For others like Tristan Rogers from “The Young & The Restless" the issue is less about airtime...

HollywoodNews.com: Now that we know who is contending for a pre-nomination slot at the Daytime Emmy Awards, it’s time to take a closer look at each of the acting categories. The key to winning a Daytime Emmy is episode selection. To stand out amongst this group of industry legends, an actor will need to submit a tape that displays enough range and impact to make voters take notice. Good submissions are usually self-contained episodes showing a clear beginning, middle and end to a character’s emotional arc.

Soap operas are amazing, aren't they? Take 'All My Children' for example: Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) has been kidnapped or gone missing countless times, but it's always just as suspenseful as the first.
Erica's TV daughter Bianca (now played by Christina Lind) is back in Pine Valley to figure out what's going on and to try to "stop some major drama from going down while she's gone." Yeah, good luck with that. Especially with old flames like Ryan (Cameron Mathison) and Greenlee (Rebecca Budig) still trying to rekindle their romance. Will they? Won't they? It never gets old!
A couple that most certainly will is Amanda (Chrishell Stause) and Jake (Ricky Paull Goldin) who are having a soap opera wedding to end all soap opera weddings, complete with bachelor/bachelorette parties, the all-important cake and, yes, a trip to jail the night before.
