The popular video game Poppy Playtime is following in the footsteps of Five Nights at Freddy’s, THR reports, with Legendary Entertainment developing a movie adaptation.
“Beating out several competitive offers, Legendary has closed an aggressive deal with Mob Entertainment to develop and produce a live-action feature adaptation of Poppy Playtime, a horror video game featuring the toy-turned-monster,” the website reports.
The Hollywood Reporter reminds, “Featuring shades of Willy Wonka, Toy Story and Gremlins, the first person video game sees the player acting as a former employee of a faded toy brand who, thanks to a cryptic letter, is drawn back to an abandoned facility only to quickly discover it has become home to a host of toys, including Huggy Wuggy, Mommy Long Legs, and CatNap, that have taken on a life of their own. Players have to decipher clues, solve puzzles and use gadgets to unravel the mystery and get out alive.

In a highly competitive situation, Legendary has closed a deal with Mob Entertainment to develop and produce a live-action film based on its hit horror video game franchise Poppy Playtime, Deadline can confirm. Legendary will develop and produce along with Don Murphy & Susan Montford’s Angry Films, and Mob Entertainment.
In the Poppy Playtime games, players take on the role of a former employee of the once-illustrious toy brand, Playtime Co. Upon receiving a cryptic letter, the protagonist is drawn back to the sprawling, desolate facility only to quickly discover it’s become home to a host of toys that have taken on a life of their own. Far from the friendly playthings of childhood memories, these toys harbor sinister intentions.

A year ago, Legendary Entertainment’s remake of the infamous 1978 box office hit Faces of Death (get it Here) went into production in Louisiana, with Barbie Ferreira of the HBO series Euphoria, Dacre Montgomery of Netflix’s Stranger Things, Josie Totah of the recent Saved by the Bell revival, Jermaine Fowler of The Blackening, and singer Charli Xcx making up the cast. We haven’t heard a release date for this one yet, but it did just take a major step forward: it has gotten its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. They have announced that the Faces of Death remake has received an R rating for strong bloody violence and gore, sexual content, nudity, language and drug use.

Paramount has delayed “Aang: The Last Airbender” to 2026 and moved “Transformers One” back by one week.
The animated “Avatar: The Last Airbender” spinoff was previously set for Oct. 10, 2025, and will now open on Jan. 20, 2026. Dave Bautista and Eric Nam are headlining the voice cast for the film, which is in development at Paramount and Nickelodeon Studios. Plot details haven’t been revealed, but Bautista will voice a villain character.
Lauren Montgomery, who worked on the original “Avatar: The Last Airbender” television show, is directing the project with William Mata. Series creators Michael Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko are serving as executive producers alongside Eric Coleman.
Elsewhere on Paramount’s release calendar, “Transformers One” will debut on Sept. 20, 2024, instead of Sept. 13. On its new date, the animated “Transformers” adventure will play in Imax and open in theaters on the same day as Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s “The Wild Robot.”

Transformers One, is going now on Sept. 20 instead of Sept. 13.
The move gets Transformers One further away from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice which is going to eat up the September box office. However, already on this weekend is DreamWorks Animation/Universal’s Wild Robot. Two big animated movies are certainly not going to live on the same weekend.
The release date change also comes in the wake of the great reception that Transformers One received out of CinemaCon last week. Late September has been a rich bed for family animated movies including Hotel Transylvania 2 ($48.2M opening), Hotel Transylvania ($42.5M opening) and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs ($34M opening).
Transformers One is among one of Paramount’s highest tested movies in the studio’s history.

Forget trailer debuts during football game halftimes or shown through “Fortnite,” the next frontier of debuting movie trailers is watching it on a screen that happens to be orbiting the Earth.

Paramount, via star Chris Hemsworth’s Instagram, did a livestream of the spacecraft launch followed by the first look at the trailer.
Why do this? “The sky is the limit” for the film, Hemsworth said in announcing the stunt.
Okay, technically, we first all saw it on ground level at CinemaCon last week, 3-D glasses and all. “Transformers One” is the first animated “Transformers” movie in 40 years, and to inaugurate the 40-year anniversary of the Transformers brand, the film is an origin story for how...

Yo, Joe! The crossover your inner child has been screaming for became a reality after Paramount shared plans to develop a G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover film! Paramount Pictures teased the project in last year’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and now it’s official! No director is attached to the project, at least not yet. Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura returns alongside Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy.

Deadpool director Tim Miller is used to bringing strange characters to life on the silver screen. Still, this time, he’s wrangling an extensive cast for an adaptation of Alien Legion, a science-fiction comic book series created by Carl Potts, Alan Zelenetz, and Frank Cirocco. Warner Bros. recently acquired the rights to Alien Legion, which Potts refers to as The Foreign Legion in space or The Dirty Dozen meets Aliens.
Published under Marvel Comics‘ Epic Comics imprint in 1983, Alien Legion revolves around Torie Montroc, the young son of an interstellar businessman who, rather than pick up the corporate torch, enrolls as a grunt in the Alien Legion, aligning himself with some of the galaxy’s most despicable degenerates.
Don Murphy and Susan Montford will produce the project through Angry Films alongside Aaron Ryder, with Andrew Swett of Rpc executive producing. According to The Wrap, Alien Legion is a bucket list project for Miller,...

Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group has acquired “Alien Legion,” a science-fiction comic-book series created by Carl Potts, Alan Zelenetz, and Frank Cirocco, with “Deadpool” director Tim Miller attached to direct, TheWrap has learned.
The studio picked up the IP with an eye towards building their own blockbuster space opera franchise. “Alien Legion” is being billed as “The Foreign Legion in space” or “’The Dirty Dozen’ meet ‘Aliens,’” according to creator Carl Potts, a long time Marvel comics Editor in Chief and writer.
The comic was part of Marvel Comics’ Epic Comics imprint in 1983 and centers on Torie Montroc, the young son of a mega rich interstellar business man who, rather than join the family business, enrolls in the Alien Legion at the lowest rank, joining some of the most vile and degenerate beings in the galaxy.

Warner Bros. is building its own galaxy that is far, far away.
The studio has picked up the rights to Alien Legion, a star-spanning, sci-fi comic initially published by Marvel Comics, with the aim of building a homegrown space opera franchise.
Tim Miller, who directed the original Deadpool as well as Terminator: Dark Fate, is attached to direct.
Don Murphy and Susan Montford of Angry Films, the banner whose credits include Transformers and Real Steel, will produce along with Aaron Ryder.
Legion was co-created by Carl Potts, a former editor and writer at Marvel, and was introduced as part of the publisher’s creator-owned imprint, Epic Comics, in 1983. It became the line’s longest-running title, even outliving the imprint when it was moved to other publishers in the 21st century. Alan Zelenetz and Frank Cirocco are the other co-creators.

The "Transformers" movies took a pretty healthy break after the release of 2018's "Bumblebee," even if that wasn't originally the plan that Paramount Pictures had in mind. Regardless, thanks to the pandemic, that's exactly what happened. But with the release of "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" in 2023, the franchise is back with much more to come. Not only are we poised for more live-action movies but we're also getting a feature-length, theatrically-released animated film in the form of "Transformers One."
While the robots in disguise started out as toys, it was in no small part thanks to the '80s animated series, as well as 1986's "Transformers: The Movie" that helped make the Autobots and Decepticons staples of pop culture. So bringing it back around to animation feels like a full-circle moment, and one that may well excite fans who checked out during Michael Bay's later live-action entries. So...

There are few Transformers more famous than Soundwave and it's almost all thanks to the original cartoon. In that series, he was portrayed as more robotic than the other Decepticons; his voice (provided by Frank Welker and a vocoder effect) was electronic and his speech patterns were mechanical. Since Soundwave was less expressive than his castmates, he was less likely to indulge in the show's slapstick humor or suffer humiliation. These qualities added up to an air of coolness and mystery. On a show with paper-thin characters, Soundwave's lack of personality actually made him more memorable.
Since Soundwave has been part of "Transformers" from the beginning and is so well-remembered by fans, why was he excluded from the 2007 "Transformers" movie? He's in the sequels, but he's not a player you wait to take off the bench.
Well, his absence wasn't an oversight. "Transformers" writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman wanted...

Few movie stars ever reach the global icon status that Sean Connery enjoyed. In his youth he was the face of arguably the first modern film franchise, James Bond. The experience took him around the globe and laid the groundwork for a career where even into his 60s, no less than Steven Spielberg would say Connery remained one of “only seven genuine movie stars in the world today.” His roles are the stuff of legend: Bond, Jimmy Malone, Professor Henry Jones, Major General Urquhart, Robin Hood, and many more.
Yet few folks ever talk about the last cinematic role of his career, the classic literary character Allan Quartermain, nor do they mention the misbegotten comic book movie it was attached to, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. An adaptation of a respected Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill comic book series, and a film that leaned into Connery’s history as a...

Ok, another Transformers movie. All the others (6 in total if you include Bumblebee) have been pretty solid fan favorites under the direction of uber-action director Michael Bay. I was expecting more of the same this time around…. but hang on, not so fast. This is different.
Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts is set in 1994, and for those keeping score, that’s a whole 8 years before the Bay-helmed Transformers: The Movie (2007). And because this installment is more like a prequel, it doesn’t have to worry about being a continuation of the same story. One of the more noticeable differences is that unlike the first film, the Transformers are not here to...

Paramount has pushed back the release date for Transformers One, the newest animated feature in the Transformers franchise that was unveiled at CinemaCon in April. The origin story from director Josh Cooley, previously set to open on July 19, 2024, will now bow nationwide on September 13, 2024.
While the sole competitor on its new date is an untitled film from Uni/Blumhouse, the project hits theaters shortly after the September 6th debut of Warner Bros’ Beetlejuice 2, Disney’s Blade and another unknown Disney pic. It had previously been set to contend with Universal’s Twisters.
Hailing from Paramount Animation, Hasbro and eOne, Transformers One tells the story of how a young Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth) and Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry) went from being brothers-in-arms to sworn enemies. Also starring are Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Jon Hamm and Laurence Fishburne, who are respectively voicing Elita, Bumblebee, Sentinel Prime and Alpha Trion.

The Robots in Disguise return to theaters with a new mission the weekend of June 9, and analysts are already crunching numbers for the film’s summertime debut. According to Hollywood trend watchers and number hounds, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts could make $68M to $70M in its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada.
That number is impressive after 2018’s Bumblebee opened to $21.6M in the domestic market, while Transformers: The Last Knight did $44.6M over a $68.4M Wednesday through Sunday window. If Transformers: Rise of the Beasts performs as expected, the action-packed installment inspired by a nostalgic property will be another win for the recovering box office. For those keeping track, Fast X is racing toward a $60M debut, with Disney’s live-action version of The Little Mermaid swimming toward $110M. Elsewhere, Spider-Man: Acorss the Spider-Verse could web up $80M, setting the summer box office on fire.

Legendary Entertainment’s remake of the infamous 1978 box office hit Faces of Death (get it Here) is now filming in Louisiana, and Deadline reports that Jermaine Fowler of Sorry to Bother You, The Drop, Coming 2 America, and the upcoming horror comedy The Blackening has been cast in the movie. Fowler joins previously announced cast members Barbie Ferreira of the HBO series Euphoria, Dacre Montgomery of Netflix’s Stranger Things, Josie Totah of the recent Saved by the Bell revival, and singer Charli Xcx.
The first Faces of Death was about a pathologist exploring gruesome ways to die via footage purportedly culled from around the world. Legendary’s version of the pic is co-written by Isa Mazzei and Goldhaber.
The original film from filmmaker John Alan Schwartz was an early example of viral videos.
