On the Verge is not returning to Netflix or Canal+ for a second season. Starring Julie Delphy, Elisabeth Shue, Sarah Jones, and Alexia Landeau, On the Verge follows four Los Angeles friends in their late 40s as they try to recapture their zest for life, from a time before families, work, and other commitments took over. The first season of 12 episodes was released on Netflix on September 7th of last year.
In addition to being one of the show's stars, Delphy also created, wrote, and directed the series. When asked about the future of the comedy on Instagram, Delphy revealed the show had been cancelled, per Deadline. She also responded to young co-star Kai To's comment.

Having grown up in Hollywood under the wing of actress mother Tippi Hedren, Melanie Griffith knows a thing or two about the pressures surrounding women in the business. Specifically, that in a town obsessed with youth, career opportunities generally decrease with age. "By the time you're 40 in Los Angeles, you're over the hill in the business," Griffith, 58, tells People. "It takes women that are strong enough to actually change the perception." Griffith, who was nominated for an Oscar in 1989 for her performance in the women-in-the-workplace empowerment classic Working Girl, cites Zoe Cassavetes, the director of her latest film, as one example.

Zoe Cassavetes’ second feature film “Day Out of Days” debuted at the Los Angeles Film Festival last week —it's an appropriate venue for the film, which is about navigating Hollywood as a 40 year old actress. The movie is a tremendous showcase for Cassavetes’ co-writer and star, Alexia Landeau, who plays Mia Roarke as flawed, often unsympathetic, but ultimately human, and worth rooting for. Mia turns to searching for meaning in her work after finding her personal life to be lacking in what she expected at her age (marriage, kids), with her career floundering too. Our review called the film “the perfect depiction of the easy come, easy go nature of stardom and worth in Hollywood,” and opined that “Cassavetes deftly explores these issues with a great deal of nuance and an unflinching eye.” We talked on the phone with Cassavetes from her Paris home last week about the intricacies of the film,...

Zoe Cassavetes’ 2007 debut feature “Broken English,” starring Parker Posey, is an astutely realized portrait of a woman struggling to find herself while searching for love. It’s an underrated picture, and eight years has been far too long between features for Cassavetes, who debuted her second film “Day Out of Days,” at the Los Angeles Film Festival this week. While following a similar theme of a woman adrift and searching for meaning, this film replaces work in place of love as a self-worth defining element. For actresses in Hollywood, their work isn’t always in their control, due to sexism, ageism and other outside influences, and Cassavetes deftly explores these issues with a great deal of nuance and an unflinching eye. Days Go By: Cassavetes Returns with Industry Commentary
It’s a tale as old as cinema itself, the dismissive and apathetic attitude towards ageing women in a youth obsessed, commodified film industry. And yet, director Zoe Cassavetes manages to make her own worthwhile entry with Day Out of Days, a project conceived, developed, and co-written with lead actress Alexia Landeau. As impossibly difficult as the landscape is for an actress, the female director suffers comparable obstacles in sustaining a lucrative filmmaking career, and it’s been eight years since Cassavetes made her stunningly eloquent debut with 2007’s Broken English, a film featuring Parker Posey in a career best turn. Whatever the cause of the hiatus (though she’s turned out several short films in the interim), this sophomore feature is a more than welcome return from a director with a particular knack for capturing characters at a difficult crossroads. There's at least one name you might know in the Los Angeles Film Festival's Muse lineup: Zoe Cassavetes, daughter of John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands, who makes her first film since 2007 breakout "Broken English" with "Day Out of Days." The Hollywood-set comedy follows a middling actress, now 40, who struggles to navigate the cutthroat world of Tinseltown while trying to relaunch her career. When given an unusual chance to return to the spotlight, the film takes strange, humiliating turns. "Day Out of Days" premieres Sunday night at Laff. The cast includes Alexia Landeau, Eddie Izzard, Melanie Griffith, Cheyenne Jackson, Alessandro Nivola, Brooke Smith, Bellamy Young, Vincent Kartheiser, Matt Letscher and Josh Stamberg. It is currently seeking Us distribution.

Despite the lottery-esque sounding odds, the U.S Dramatic Competition section which produces the finest American indie specimens such as Frozen River, Winter’s Bone, Blue Valentine, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Fruitvale Station and Whiplash is fairly consistent in terms of quality. It’s not uncommon to see a filmmaker essentially break out with a hit film (in baseball lingo this wasn’t a home run, but an ernest double) at Sundance, and then, for a multitude of reasons both known or unknown, not strike while the iron is hot. Her Frenchie-Americano rom com featuring quintessential indie starlet Parker Posey was with all its warts and quirks played excellently for a certain demographic and midway this year, she queued up a sophomore film that is a little more grown-up. Featuring Alexia Landeau in the lead with a cast that includes Cheyenne Jackson, Eddie Izzard, Melanie Griffith, Bellamy Young, Vincent Kartheiser, Ione Skye, Alessandro Nivola and Brooke Smith, Day out of Days received some coin in late 2013, and could follow the path to Sundance as her short Men Make Women Crazy Theory (2000) and Broken English before it. While still an active member of what I would call a French-u.S galpal filmmaker clique, the name of Zoe Cassavetes has painfully been absent from the indie scene since her feature film debut Broken English (2007) landed in Park City. Working with the ageism theme, more specifically, the drawbacks of working as an actress in/against/for the Hollywood system that were recently touched upon in Olivier Assayas’ Sils Maria and David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars, Cassavetes muse and co-writer Alexia Landeau (also featured in sister Xan Cassavetes’ Kiss of the Damned) has according to the Deadline folks toplined Cassavetes’ sophomore film. Melanie Griffith, Eddie Izzard, Cheyenne Jackson, Vincent Kartheiser, Alessandro Nivola, Brooke Smith and Bellamy Young also star in the pic that went went into production last month. Produced by Gina Kwon (The Future) and Kate Roughan, look for Day Out Of Days to have a Sundance berth.

Five years after Julie Delpy introduced her neurotic character Marion and her oddball family in 2 Days in Paris, the actress/writer/director reunites several of the same characters in the romantic comedy 2 Days in New York, opening in Austin this week.
Unfortunately Delpy's real-life mother Marie Pillet, who played Marion's mom in the first film, passed away in 2009. However, Delpy's father Albert Delpy returns as Marion's eccentric father Jeannot, with Alexia Landeau along as Marion's boyfriend-stealing sister Rose. Ex-boyfriend Manu (Alexandre Nahon) also makes an appearance, but he's less suave and more buffoonish than in the first film, and even fat family cat Jean-Luc makes a cameo.
Marion is no longer with her neurotic boyfriend Jack from 2 Days in Paris, and continues to live in New York with their child as well as new American boyfriend Mingus (Chris Rock) and his daughter. When Marion's family travels to New York and stays in their small apartment,...

I really wanted to like this movie.
I like Julie Delpy.
I like that she took an unexpected Johnny Depp-like career turn upon first becoming successful: she decided not to let her stunning looks lull her into a guaranteed successful, complacent career.
She moved to a foreign country, mastered English, and didn’t just say she was going to direct, she really did direct and wrote a successful screenplay (Before Sunset). And she proved a triple threat: writing directing, and starring in 2 Days in Paris which was a nicely paced, accurately funny depiction of the Franco-American culture clash.
Understandably, I had high expectations for her follow up. Hence, the fall was steep.
Here’s what I wasn’t expecting at all:
I wasn’t expecting to be bored by Chris Rock.
I wasn’t expecting to hate French people.

Chicago – Julie Delpy’s “2 Days in New York” is an amenable screwball comedy with some jokes that definitely fall flat and some awkward emotional beats in the final act but a likable tone that allows for easy passage over the screenwriting rough spots. Ms. Delpy is still charming and co-star Chris Rock is more effective here than he typically is in film. It’s just a likable little movie without pretension to be anything more.
The film is a sequel to Delpy’s “2 Days in Paris,” in which she played half of a couple with Adam Goldberg as they spent some awkward moments in the city of lights. This time, Goldberg is gone as Margot has moved on from that relationship and travelled with her son to New York, where she has fallen in love with a radio talk show host named Mingus (Rock). This time, Goldberg is gone as Margot has moved on from that relationship and travelled with her son to New York, where she has fallen in love with a radio talk show host named Mingus (Rock). The film takes place over...

Title: 2 Days in New York Director: Julie Delpy Starring: Julie Delpy, Chris Rock, Albert Delpy, Alexia Landeau, Alex Nahon, Dylan Baker, Kate Burton, Malinda Williams Nobody can push buttons of exasperation and pull levers of hair-trigger emotional reaction quite like family — those folks who know all of the faces of the past you’ve tried to shake and shed. That truth is borne out in Julie Delpy’s witty, winning new comedy of relationships and culture-clash, “2 Days in New York.” A nominal follow-up to 2007′s “2 Days in Paris,” in which Delpy played the same character with a different love interest, this rather delightful romp eschews complicated plotting to [ Read More ]...

When the indie hit 2 Days in Paris premiered in 2007, writer/director/actor Julie Delpy's character Marion was involved with Jack (Adam Goldberg), and their neurotic coupledom made for some hilarious fish-out-of-water set pieces when they visited her family in Paris. Five years later, in 2 Days in New York, the tables are turned, with Marion living in the city and her family about to upset the Big Apple cart. Jack is out of the picture (but the couple's young son Lulu remains), and Marion is now living with Mingus (Chris Rock as a hilarious straight-man), a radio host with a young daughter of his own. An aspiring photographer, Marion has invited her father (Jeannot, played by Delpy's real-life father, Albert) and her sister (Rose, Alexia Landeau) to town for her gallery opening, and tagging along unexpectedly is Rose's on-again-off-again boyfriend Manu (who also happens to be Marion's ex). It's a...

Editor’s note: With 2 Days in New York opening in limited release this Friday, here is a re-run of our review from Sundance, when it was the only film that could perk an exhausted Kate up on Festival Day 26. This review was originally posted on January 29, 2012. Picking up a few years where her 2 Days in Paris left off, Julie Delpy‘s 2 Days in New York has moved the sometimes-messy life of Marion (Delpy) to Gotham. Marion has now taken up with Mingus (Chris Rock, playing a pitch-perfect straight man), a former co-worker who offered dry humor and personal understanding when her previous relationship crumbled. The pair live together in a cozy and artistic apartment, joined by Marion’s young son Lulu (Owen Shipman) and Mingus’ daughter Willow (Talen Ruth Riley). As calm and lovely as their life together seems, everything is about to be tested over a brief two-day period, marked...

Trading Woody to Team Europe might not turn out to be such a bad deal for us if Team New York gets to keep Julie Delpy. The French actress’s second directorial feature — a follow-up to 2007’s 2 Days in Paris — turns out to be an assured, sensitive, and occasionally very funny relationship comedy that, much like Allen at his best, takes sharply drawn and recognizable characters and stretches them until something fascinating emerges.Delpy plays Marion, a French artist living in New York with her live-in boyfriend Mingus (Chris Rock); they each have kids from previous relationships, and the film opens with a puppet show explaining the circumstances whereby this very modern and very New York couple came to live together. Meanwhile, at JFK, Marion’s family — her father Jeannot (played by Albert Delpy, the director-star’s real father), her sister Rose (Alexia Landeau), and Rose’s boyfriend and Marion...

2 Days in New York
Written by Julie Delpy and Alexia Landeau
Directed by Julie Delpy
France/Germany/Belgium, 2012
Julie Delpy’s 2 Days in Paris, which documented her character’s struggling relationship with American boyfriend Jack (Adam Goldberg) while visiting her home city of Paris, was a rewarding comedy with pleasing one-note simplicity. Arriving five years later and set four years after, 2 Days in New York operates both as a sequel to that film and as a standalone entity. Disregarding the streamlined focus of the first film, this follow-up takes on an array of often soft targets and disappointingly favours a much broader brand of humour that isn’t nearly as successful.
Delpy’s Marion conceived a son with Jack during the interim between films, but they have since split up and Marion is now living with Chris Rock’s Mingus, who has a daughter of his own. Marion’s established...

Magnolia Pictures' 2 Days in New York has 2 new clips for the comedy starring Chris Rock, July Delpy, Albert Delpy, Alexia Landeau, Alexandre Nahon, Kate Burton, Dylan Baker and Daniel Brühl. The film opens on July 6th on VOD and is helmed by July Delpy who scripts alongside Alexia Landeau. In 2 Days in New York, Marion and Mingus live cozily—perhaps too cozily—with their cat and two young children from previous relationships. However, when Marion’s jolly father (played by director Delpy’s real-life dad), her oversexed sister, and her sister’s outrageous boyfriend unceremoniously descend upon them for a visit, it initiates two unforgettable days that will test Marion and Mingus’s relationship. With their unwitting racism and sexual frankness, the French triumvirate hilariously has no boundaries or filters...and no person is left unscathed in its wake.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
2 Days in Paris, written and directed by its star, Julie Delpy, is not exactly a film crying out for a sequel. Apt it is that Delpy, again taking up writing, directing and acting duties for 2 Days in New York, has opted to eschew the typical follow-up format. Employing that very French brand of quirkiness to potent effect, Delpy grills both sides of the pond with scathing wit, and provides an unexpected vehicle for co-star Chris Rock to flex his dramatic chops.
Since the previous film, Marion (Delpy) has split up with Jack (Adam Goldberg, who only appears by mention in this film) and now lives in New York with their young son, Lulu. Cohabiting with boyfriend Mingus (Chris Rock) has proven fruitful, that is until Marion’s family, consisting of father Jeannot (Delpy’s actual father, Albert), sister Rose (Alexia Landeau) and Rose’s boyfriend Manu (Alex Nahon) come to visit.

Julie Delpy turns her hand to multitasking once more (she’s credited as co-producer, co-write, director, and star) as she reprises his role of the perilously romantic artist Marion in this slight, yet witty and engaging follow up to 2007’s 2 Days in Paris.
As the title suggests, Marion has now swapped her Parisian domicile for an apartment in the Big Apple which she shares with her young son (whose father was her boyfriend in ‘Paris’) a cat and new bloke Mingus (Chris Rock, completed with hipster goatee) and his young daughter.
The couple’s peaceful existence is severely tested when Marion’s brash and uncouth family pay a visit from over the pond. Having to contend with her forward younger sister Rose (Alexia Landeau), her elderly, rambunctious father (played by Delpy’s real-life Pops, Albert) and Rose’ obnoxious boyfriend Mau (Alexandre Nahon) places a strain on her and Mingus’ relationship.

Taking place a few years after “2 Days in Paris,” with the events from that film summed up in a puppet show, Jack (played Adam Goldberg) is gone and Marion (Delpy) lives in New York with her boyfriend Mingus (Chris Rock) and their respective children from previous relationships. Both lead artistic New York lives as Marion is about to open a photo exhibit and Mingus is writing for the Village Voice along with hosting two radio shows. Marion's father Jeannot (Albert Delpy) and sister Rose (Alexia Landeau) are coming to New York to spend time as a family following the death of Marion's mother. The promise of foreign customs and crazy old men is fulfilled the second we meet Dad, locked in customs and removing the sausages he strapped to his chest.

Park City, Ut – The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures announced today they have acquired North American rights to 2 Days In New York, a delightful and sophisticated follow-up to her 2007 hit, 2 Days in Paris. 2 Days In New York stars Delpy, Chris Rock, Delpy’s real life father Albert Delpy, and was produced by Christophe Mazodier. A witty comedy about relationships, art, and clashing cultures, 2 Days In New York picks up again with Marion (Delpy), now living in New York City with her attentive boyfriend Mingus (Rock), each with a child from a previous relationship. Their idyllic lifestyle is turned upside-down when Marion’s eccentric father comes to stay for a few days, along with Marion’s oversexed sister (Alexia Landeau) and her sleazy boyfriend (Alex Nahon)—and proceed to drive Mingus absolutely crazy. Magnolia will release the film through its Ultra VOD program later this year, with a robust theatrical release in major markets.

Julie Delpy made quite the impression on me in her seminal Sundance film Before Sunrise and its sequel, Before Sunset. She's back at this year's festival, this time as a writer/director of a different sequel, 2 Days in New York. Following the events of 2 Days in Paris, Delpy plays Marion, a single mom who has moved in with her boyfriend Mingus (Chris Rock), who has a child of his own from a previous relationship. Marion is a photographer, and her exhibition is set to happen in the same week her father Jeannot (played by Delpy's real father, Albert Delpy) and sister Rose (Alexia Landeau, who co-wrote this film) fly in to visit from France. Also in tow is Manu (Alexandre Nahon), Rose's impetuous dolt of a boyfriend who used to date Marion.
While the movie features some of the hallmarks of the Before... series, I didn't like this one nearly as much.

It's a sequel, of course, to 2 Days in Paris, but Salon's Andrew O'Hehir, introducing an interview with Julie Delpy and Chris Rock, assures us that "it really doesn't matter whether you've seen the earlier movie. Jack, the American boyfriend played by Adam Goldberg in 2 Days in Paris, has evidently moved on (leaving behind a young son), and Delpy's character, Marion, is now shacking up with a Village Voice journalist and radio host named Mingus, who has a daughter of his own. (Rock even says the character is based on the prominent African-American journalists Nelson George and Elvis Mitchell.) Rock gets some decent laugh lines, but he isn't doing improv or stand-up material here — although he does deliver two monologues to a cardboard cutout of Barack Obama."
What sets the story in motion is the arrival of Marion's family from Paris for an extended stay. The Boston Globe's Ty Burr: "Dad (Albert Delpy,...

Oscar-nominated actress-cum-filmmaker Julie Delpy's filmmaking debut 2 Days In Paris centered on Marion (Delpy), a photographer struggling in her relationship with her neurotic, American boyfriend, Jack (Adam Goldberg). The film went on to become a huge indie hit, grossing nearly $20 million worldwide. The French-American filmmaker has returned with a sequel of sorts, and enlisted comedian Chris Rock to play Mingus, her new boyfriend. The couple lives together in New York with a child from Marion’s previous relationship with Jack and things are going smoothly—that is, until her family, including father Jeannot (Albert Delpy, her real-life Dad) and sister, Rose (Alexia Landeau), decides to pay the couple a visit following the death of Marion’s mother. Rose’s new boyfriend, who just happens to be one of Marion’s exes, ratchets up the awkwardness, attempting to impress Mingus by quoting Salt-n-Pepa and buying weed in plain sight. Adding to her anxiety,...
