The imaginative and groundbreaking prison drama "Oz" is getting a short sequel from its original creator, according to series star Kirk Acevedo. The actor who played inmate Miguel Alvarez for six seasons of the HBO series took to X/Twitter this week to spread the word about "Zo," a YouTube short film from series writer-creator Tom Fontana. According to Acevedo, the short is set to star Dean Winters, who played ultra-violent prisoner Ryan O'Reily in the show's original run, and Lee Tergesen, who played Tobias Beecher, an attorney-turned-inmate who was forced to adapt to harsh prison conditions. Christoph Shrewe, whose credits include "Mr. Robot," "Criminal Minds," and "Fear the Walking Dead," will direct the upcoming short.
Acevedo notes that "Zo" will be about "Oz after prison," and an accompanying promo image includes the phrase "What happens once you're free?" What's more, the actor noted that if the film gets "good buzz,...

"Star Trek: Picard" shares more than a little DNA with "12 Monkeys." In its third season, the recently ended "Trek" sequel series was captained by showrunner Terry Matalas, who co-created the wild Syfy Channel adaptation of Terry Gilliam's also-wild film. Aside from a shared showrunner, "Star Trek: Picard" was home to several key cast and crew members who worked on both shows – and nearly featured one more.
In a Reddit Ama about the show's third season, user Drewski1138 pointed out several narrative choices in "Picard" that echoed "12 Monkeys," including references to a mysterious red realm, a new drug called "Splinter" (a reference to "12 Monkeys" time travel), and more. "Were there any '12 Monkeys' Easter eggs we might have missed ... Were there any that you were told you couldn't put in?" the user asked Matalas. The answer? It's been 22 years since "Band of Brothers" captivated television audiences with its gripping 10-episode tale of a United States paratrooper company's daring, civilization-saving exploits in the European Theater of World War II. And according to its placement on Netflix's top charts, it is as relevant and watchable as ever.

Weeks after delivering anti-strike comments during a fan convention, actor Stephen Amell was spotted on the picket line in New York on Friday. Wearing a black “SAG-AFTRA Strong” and carrying a sign, Amell was on the other side of the country from his former “Arrow” costars and creative team, who struck together in front of Warner Bros. Those attending the reunion picket Friday included “Arrow” actors Kirk Acevedo, Katie Cassidy, Juliana Harkavy, Willa Holland, Katrina Law and Caity Lotz, as well as executive producers Marc Guggenheim, Wendy Mericle and Beth Schwartz.
Amell earned criticism from fellow union members after seeming to speak critically about the strike on July 30 at Galaxycon in Raleigh, N.C. in a widely-distribted clip.

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Picard" season 3.
It has long been an issue with "Star Trek" that life outside of Starfleet has never been solidly defined. Most of the Trek shows and all of the movies take place on ships or space stations, and the bulk of characters wear uniforms and adhere to a military-like chain of command. In the mind of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, this type of formalism is key to humanity's utopian future. Everything, he seems to have felt, can be talked out in accordance to mature, rule-based parameters. Everything within Starfleet is designed to enhance humanity's stronger impulses and tamp down on its baser instincts toward greed and colonialism.
But not everyone in the universe of "Star Trek" is a member of the Federation. Indeed, there are many worlds that actively reject Starfleet ideals, hoping to retain their addictions to money,...

I don't think there has been a superhero television series with an as expansive legacy as "Arrow." Premiering on The CW in 2012, the series not only ran for impressive eight seasons but spawned the "Arrowverse," a shared television universe. "Arrow" led to the creation of "The Flash," "Legends of Tomorrow," and more, with these DC Comics-inspired series regularly crossing over with one another. The show stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, a playboy who returns to his hometown of Star City after presumingly being stranded on a remote island for five years, as the vigilante Green Arrow.
Initially coming out the gate as a dark and gritty take on the Green Arrow mythos, "Arrow" let itself get weird and leaned into its comic book origins for an entertaining, if uneven, superhero show. There is a wide range of quality across the show's entire run, from its attempts to visibly...

HBO's "Band of Brothers" remains one of the great TV shows and a devastatingly powerful recreation of World War II. Conceived by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks shortly after their Academy Award-winning World War II epic "Saving Private Ryan," "Band of Brothers," based on the book by Stephen E. Ambrose, chronicles "Easy" Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division's experiences in Europe. We follow this ragtag group of Americans through boot camp, D-Day, and Bastogne; witness their most ferocious battles; and watch as the war emotionally and physically impacts each of them.
As a bonus, preceding each episode is an introduction from various real-life members of Easy Company. They describe the action in their own words so that it resonates deeper. It's one thing to watch these events and another to hear a veteran recall the experience first-hand.

“I’m starting to feel like this is my funeral,” Oz creator Tom Fontana joked, while sitting down for an Atx retrospective on Monday, celebrating his series’ enduring impact.
During the lively, foul-mouthed conversation, moderator Eric Deggans of NPR noted that the prison drama was the first one-hour drama series ever to air on HBO, paving the way toward a Golden Age in small-screen storytelling.
In Fontana’s opinion, Oz was groundbreaking in just one way. “HBO trusted me, as the writer and producer, to make the show I wanted, as opposed to the show they thought they wanted. I thought that gave permission to do [shows like] Sopranos and Six Feet Under,” he said. “I think…we took a chance, and it has allowed other people to make TV shows that take a chance.”

Batman: Soul of the Dragon sets Gotham’s caped crusader in a vintage martial arts homage. Directed by Sam Liu, who also directed the animated movie version of one of the greatest Batman graphic novels ever published, Batman: The Killing Joke, this is the 42nd project in the ongoing DC Universe Movies series.
However, Soul of the Dragon is an original tale, not based on a precedent comic. Like the eye popping anime-style film Batman Ninja, this is a completely stand-alone story. Batman: Soul of the Dragon is yet another chapter in the many creation tales for Batman. It tells of his martial indoctrination and joining him on this adventure are three of the best martial artists within the DC multiverse: Lady Shiva (Kelly Hu), Ben Turner a.k.a. Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White), and Richard Dragon (Mark Dacascos).

The years spent by Bruce Wayne training to become a crimefighter are some of the most fascinating in the Batman mythos, and have been explored in multiple ways across various mediums. A new DC animated feature, Batman: Soul of the Dragon now offers the intriguing prospect of a 1970s-set story wherein a young Bruce embarks on the path to martial arts mastery. We recently received the trailer and first clip from the film, and now have an introduction to Richard Dragon, one of the main characters from the Bruce Timm-produced movie.
In the video, which you can catch above, voice actor Mark Dacascos describes how we meet Dragon in the 1970s as a super spy who trained with Bruce alongside master O-Sensei. We then see Dragon in training, and being pointed out by O-Sensei to Bruce, foreshadowing the partnership between the two depicted in the recent trailer. At this point,...

If you’re an “Olicity” shipper, then I imagine you’re going to be savoring the next four episodes of Arrow for all they’re worth. The reason I’m saying that is because, as those who’ve kept up with news pertaining to the series are aware, Emily Bett Rickards will soon be exiting the show, and has opted to not stick around for the eighth and final season.
At the time of this writing, it remains unknown exactly how Felicity Smoak will be written off, but we’ve been given hints as to how it may happen. Personally, I think a string of events yet to unfold will lead “Overwatch” to arrive at the decision to leave Star City behind and raise her baby in seclusion.
Someone who’d beg to differ though is that of Kirk Acevedo, who thinks his character of Ricardo Diaz should’ve put the kibosh on Felicity.
