Action thriller, “Trigger” from writer-director Richard Somes has wrapped production and is beginning sales at the European Film Market.
“Trigger” (aka “Tokakk”) tells the story of a lonely security guard (portrayed by Arjo Atayde) previously discharged from the military due to his post-traumatic stress disorder. He finds himself embroiled in a different kind of war when a young woman (Julia Montes) seeks his protection against a corrupt police death squad. While the pair fight for their lives, the man must confront his inner demons to earn his redemption.
The film also stars Arjo Atayde (“Cattleya Killer”), Julia Montes (“Brothers”), Sid Lucero (“The End of History”) and Kokoy De Santos (“Game Boy”) and is produced by Wilfredo C. Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story and other winners of the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival-Philippines (Mmff-p) Awards have been released. The 37th Annual Metro Manila Film Festival-Philippines “is the annual film festival held in Manila. The festival, which runs from the 25th of December to the first week of January, focuses on locally-produced films…During the course of the festival, no foreign movies are shown across the Philippines. Moreover, only films approved by the jurors of the Mmff will be shown. One of the festival highlights is the parade of floats during the opening of the festival. The floats, each one representing a movie entry for the festival, parade down Roxas Boulevard, while the stars for films ride on them.” This year’s awards ceremony was held at the “Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila in Pasay City”.

[Updated with full trailer.]While the Cinema One Originals festival is about to cast a light on the independent film scene in The Philippines the country's big commercial film festival is just around the corner as well.The biggest films in The Philippines tend to premiere as part of the Metro Manila Film Festival and one that will be appearing there in the upcoming edition is Tikoy Aguiluz's Manila Kingpin, a slick looking gangster picture based on the life of real life crime lord Asiong Salonga. This first teaser is very brief but it has a good deal of potential, Aguiluz looking back to classic noir and gangster films for the look and feel of the piece. Check it below....
