Siblings Dolly (Dana Day) and Ted (James Fitzgibbons) – as well as Ted’s new girlfriend Sarah (Claudia Peyton) – are visiting their mother Cathy (Helen Benton) and her man’s man of a boyfriend Gary (Terry Brown) at their house in the scenic forests of Wisconsin. What should be a jolly and festive gathering starts off rocky with both Cathy and Sarah sharing bad vibes with one another and I’m not just talking about that usual distrust of in-laws! Shaky starts aside – it’s business as usual as the gang partake in the normal family bonding rituals such as hunting a single Bambi together when uncle Peter (Peter Spelson) pays a visit. Thankfully, Bambi lives to fight another day when the screamish...

John Boyega filmed his new Netflix movie Imperial Dreams long before his star-making turn as reluctant stormtrooper Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But though Malik Vitthal‘s gritty inner city drama won an Audience Award for its world premiere at Sundance in 2014, it’s taken the film a few years to make it onto screens. Now, Netflix has a trailer for the movie, which sees Boyega playing a single father and aspiring writer trying to keep himself and his son out of danger in Los Angeles’ infamous Imperial Courts housing projects.
Shot on location, Dreams looks to be a gut-punch of a film, as Boyega’s Bambi balances responsibilities, social pressures, and the crushing weight of poverty in an attempt to keep himself and his son alive and free. The film debuts on February 3 on Netflix.

Jon Favreau chats to us about his new movie, The Jungle Book. Plus, Zathura, Statham and Gravity too…
Jon Favreau is building a growing reputation as one of Hollywood’s most versatile directors. He’s followed up his charming comedy drama Chef with a big budget, hugely cinematic take on The Jungle Book. And he spared us some time to natter about it.
Here’s how it went….
Does the sense of achievement feel any different as you get to the end of a film?
[Laughs] It too early days really! I’m not sure I’m counting it as an achievement yet. But I do like that the people I’ve spoken to and seen at the screenings seem to genuinely like what we did here. It is a sense of relief, it is exciting. We worked so long on it. It must be heartbreaking if you...

Looking for good books about the movies to read? We've got a bumper selection of recommendations right here...
A confession. I actually started writing this article in 2013, and the reason you've only reading it now is that I've made sure I've read every book on this list, save for one or two where I've marked otherwise. As such, what you're getting is a very personal list of recommendations. Each of these books has at least something to it that I think is of interest to someone wanting to learn more about film - or just enjoy stories of movie making.
I've tended to avoid picture books, with one exception, as these ones I've chosen are all intended to be chock-full of words, to relax with at the end of a long day. Which is what I did. There are one or two notable omissions, as I'm still...
