Comedian Jay Leno and his wife, Mavis Leno, stepped out for a special evening at the Los Angeles premiere of Unfrosted. This marks their first public appearance since revealing Mavis’s dementia diagnosis.
The couple, who have been married for over four decades, were in good spirits as they spoke to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet.
Mavis expressed her positive outlook and stated, “I feel great,” during the interview.
The movie’s premiere, directed by Jerry Seinfeld, provided a much-needed opportunity for entertainment, according to Leno. “Thought I’d come to something fun for a change,” he said. “Everything is so controversial. Just to come to a funny, silly movie ― it’s great. I think people will have a great time.”
The Lenos’ public outing comes as they privately navigate Mavis’s health challenges. In January, Leno filed for a conservatorship of their joint estate and cited his wife’s cognitive decline.

Jerry Seinfeld’s Pop-Tart comedy Unfrosted debuted in Los Angeles on Tuesday, where its star-studded cast was also joined by a special guest heaping praise on the film.
Jay Leno — alongside wife Mavis — crashed The Hollywood Reporter‘s red carpet interview with Seinfeld, as he joked, “I’m so sick of these hard-hitting, controversial documentaries. Can’t somebody just make a comedy anymore? Everything is a teachable moment and, ‘Oh I learned this.’ I just want to come and laugh.”
Seinfeld teased, “Because you’re not smart enough to learn anything,” as the friends of 45 years laughed, and Leno declared that the movie “is exactly what America needs right now, it’s going to be a really funny movie.”

Jay Leno has been officially granted conservatorship of his wife, Mavis Leno, who has been grappling with a degenerative brain disease.
The 77-year-old Mavis has been diagnosed with advanced dementia, leading to moments where her recognition of her husband becomes fleeting, as stated by her medical professionals.
Leno, renowned for his tenure as the host of the Tonight Show, has been married to Mavis for over four decades. With Mavis’s health deteriorating due to Alzheimer’s, the most prevalent type of dementia, Jay initiated the conservatorship process in January.
The original petition outlined that Mavis has been experiencing a gradual decline in cognitive abilities and her sense of place and time over several years. While the precise time of her diagnosis remains undisclosed, Jay reportedly delayed pursuing conservatorship as a gesture of regard for his beloved wife.

New court documents reveal that Jay Leno‘s wife, Mavis, is facing an “advanced” form of dementia and “sometimes does not know her husband nor her date of birth.” The update comes after the legendary talk show host filed for a conservatorship over his wife in January. As previously reported, Leno is seeking control of Mavis’ estate and finances, not her person. This is to “establish a living trust… that ensures [Mavis] has managed assets sufficient to provide her with future care” should Leno die before her. In new court documents filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court and obtained by Entertainment Weekly, Mavis’ court-appointed legal counsel, Ronald Ostrin, shared details of his findings during his investigation into Leno’s bid for conservatorship. Exclusive: The story of a woman who was accused of murder after entering into a suicide pact with her terminally ill husband is being adapted for the screen in the UK.
Corestar Media has acquired the dramatic rights to Mavis Eccleston’s story, who took the agonizing decision to end her life alongside husband of six decades Dennis, who was in terrible pain from cancer.
The feature, Goodnight Darling, will follow how the 79-year-old Mavis was arrested and tried for murder, only to be unanimously found not guilty, and then began a campaign with her family to change the law to allow people to take the choice of assisted dying.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel author Deborah Moggach, whose mother served time in prison in an assisted dying case, has written a script. The story could be made as a film or a TV series, said a rep for UK drama indie Corestar.

The comedy series Survival of the Thickest, created by Michelle Buteau and Danielle Sanchez-Wittell (New Girl), hasn’t just survived, but thrived — and it’s headed for a second season.
Survival of the Thickest, the first season of which dropped July 2023, is a story only Buteau can tell. Inspired by her acclaimed book of essays of the same name, the first eight episodes followed Mavis Beaumont (played by Buteau), a stylist whose life is blown up after she catches her love and work partner in bed with another woman. We’re just along for the ride as Mavis, with the help of her besties, picks up the pieces (including plenty of pieces of big-budget designer swag) and hustles to rebuild her career on her own terms, while also creating opportunities for folks who’ve been overlooked by the fashion world for too long, and getting back out there in the...

Mavis Beacon is the proud, kind, capable Black woman who’s the face of Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, the typing program that ushered so many people into the digital age. The way director Jazmin Jones sees it, Mavis Beacon belongs on any list of the most important Black women in modern history, and her reasoning is sound. Indeed, one of the successes of Seeking Mavis Beacon is its emphasis on just how many people would never have found a foothold in the 21st century if not for Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. That feels like enough to qualify Mavis Beacon for many an honorific. That is, if the woman were actually real.
Turns out, Mavis Beacon is a mascot character crafted by the three men who developed the typing program. The model for Mavis is a very real Haitian immigrant named Renée L’Espérance, who was paid $500 for her likeness before falling off the grid.

In her debut feature, Jazmin Jones and collaborator Olivia McKayla Ross are looking for answers. They turn to the divine, the public, and, of course, the Internet for guidance. Their holy grail is Mavis Beacon, the virtual instructor who led one of the most popular learning games of all time. Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing is a font of nostalgia for those who played it in its heyday, and Black fans like Jones saw Mavis as an especially important pioneer for their digital representation.
Seeking Mavis Beacon is a more artistic and conceptual film than investigative, though Jones and Ross uncover some intriguing context about Renée L’Espérance, the model who first portrayed Beacon. As the game’s first face––and thus the blueprint for Mavis, who was henceforth a Black, female character––L’Espérance played a key role in the birth of the blockbuster game. But what does it mean...

Comedian and former Tonight Show host Jay Leno filed for conservatorship over wife Mavis Leno‘s estate.
The petition was filed on Friday at the Los Angeles Superior Court. The petition states that Leno, 73, wishes to have an estate plan established on behalf of his wife, who suffers from dementia. It also mentions that Mavis, 77, in her current state, is incapable of doing the planning herself.
Leno stated Mavis has no objections to the conservatorship. He has also asked the judge that Mavis does not go to the hearing set for April 9 in concern for her mental and physical health.
“Unfortunately, Mavis has been progressively losing capacity and orientation to space and time for several years,” the filing states.
Leno also wants to ensure that his wife will be taken care of in the case that he dies before her. The conservatorship will also provide for Mavis’ brother. Because the couple have no children,...

The concept that the West, and particularly Europe and the US are some kind of heaven, has been a prevalent one in Asia since time immemorial. At the same time, though, the people who have actually taken the leap do realize that this is not always the case, with a number of movies actually highlighting the fact, with “Everybody's Gotta Love Sometimes” being one of the latest. “My Heavenly City” also moves in the same path, presenting three stories that highlight both the good and the bad of Asians living in the US, and particularly New York City.

We all know that Adam Sandler likes working with people he knows. The movies he produces with his production company Happy Madison regularly feature Kevin Nealon, Rob Schneider, and other cast members from his Saturday Night Live days. Many of his movies also feature supporting turns from guys you only see in Happy Madison flicks, like Alan Covert and Peter Dante. And, of course, he loves to cast Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore as his love interests.
So it’s no surprise that Sandler’s latest Netflix movie You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzah sees him once again paired with Idina Menzel, who played his wife in Uncut Gems. But Sandler isn’t the star of You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah, a comedy based on the 2005 YA novel by Fiona Rosenbloom. Michelle Buteau’s new TV series, adapted from her books of essays, is a refreshing take on our run-of-the-mill rom-com. The show is energetic and diverse—exactly the kind of thing Netflix needs to make more of! It is unfortunate that we got only eight short episodes of this easy-breezy binge-watch, so it would be so fantastic to see a second season real soon. Netflix hasn’t renewed the hot new show just yet, but we can imagine, with the majorly positive response it’s received, we’re likely to get a second season sooner than later. We’re so tired of seeing the same beauty standards and non-diverse media that we should definitely be encouraging such shows to be brought to the limelight and renewed. If you haven’t seen the show yet and just stumbled upon this article, check out our full review for reasons to watch Survival Of The Thickest.

When Mavis (Michelle Buteau) discovers her boyfriend of five years has been unfaithful, what stings almost as much as the betrayal is the narrative she imagines surrounding it. “If someone cheats on Halle Berry, they’re like, ‘Oh my God, how that man cheat on Halle Berry?'” she laments. “But if someone cheats on someone like me, a thick girl with problem areas? They’re like, ‘Oh yeah, I get it.'”
And though her best friend, Khalil (Tone Bell), gently pushes back on that “silly-ass narrative,” Mavis isn’t entirely wrong: Plus-sized women, and indeed all those who fall outside the straight-cis-white-skinny box, do tend to go ignored or sidelined or disrespected in love stories. Netflix’s Survival of the Thickest is a welcome and too-rare exception — a comedy that puts Mavis front and center as a worthy heroine, with mostly enjoyable results.

Although there’s nothing that really fits the bill when it comes to Michelle Buteau’s new rom-com series Survival Of The Thickest, we’ve tried to make a compilation of shows that may scratch that itch the show left behind. This show is witty, comedic, emotional, and inclusive, and even tackles serious issues in the perfect way, leaving no crumbs. It’s like watching a 30-something coming-of-age show about a plus-size black woman trying to make it big in the looming fashion industry. Michelle is especially charismatic, even as she plays a loud and often clumsy protagonist. It’s an endearing quality, unlike some similar leads who come across as obnoxious and living in a fairy tale. While Netflix alone brings us a smorgasbord of shows that fit this category of “period time” cravings with romance, fashion, and all things cozy, they’re usually hit or miss. So let...

We wouldn’t be wrong to think Khalil is definitely everyone’s new favorite bestie in town. He’s funny, he’s understanding, he’s nice, and he’s also an artist! What more could a girl want in a best friend? And yes, he pulls off a mean fit and is very charming. Unlike the usual best friend-to-lover trope, we get to see Khalil grow as a separate person from Mavis, which is fantastic. We don’t get the crap about him being blind to how stunning she was the whole time, until a breakup or something like that woke him up from his daze, and now all he can think about is his best friend. Instead, we get a wonderfully supportive best friend who knows all the dirty details and still has boundaries.
Spoilers Ahead
Khalil, played by Tone Bell, is a simple character with many layers that he hides behind.

This is the kind of rom-com we’re looking for on Netflix every day. Survival Of The Thickest is the full package (if you know what I mean), and it’s delivering from start to finish. As someone who isn’t a big fan of comedy or standup, this show had just the right amount of humor mixed in with the serious issues, a pinch of romance, and adorable fashion to make a perfect balance (sounds like I’m describing the making of the Powerpuffs). With no prior knowledge of Michelle Buteau, I was absolutely hooked on her jokes and comic timing. Just like her fashion choices, which are boisterous, the show is a perfect reflection of who she really is. Michelle is the star of the show for sure, and I’d be happy to keep coming back, even if it’s just to feel the positive, uplifting energy she radiates.

Six months after suffering serious burns to his face during a fire in his car garage, Jay Leno hilariously explained to Chris Wallace where his skin grafts came from. And the comedian still knows how to land a punch line.
“People think that skin grafts are expensive,” Leno said on Friday’s episode of “Who’s Talking with Chris Wallace” on Max. “But I have a friend who’s a mohel, and he gave me a bag of them! You can’t even tell,” he said smiling as he patted his face.
A mohel, for those that don’t know, is a person who performs the Jewish rite of circumcision.
“It’s funny, it doesn’t look like foreskin,” Wallace responded while laughing hysterically.
“No,” Leno said, “but when I get excited – well, never mind.”
The 73-year-old comedian’s still got it.

Affleck appeared on Tuesday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to promote his new flick “Air”, when the host thanked him for inviting him and his wife Molly to their Christmas bash.
However, Kimmel admitted, “There was some awkwardness there.”

Kimmel went on to say how Affleck and Lopez greeted them at the door, and all was going well until he noticed a familiar face.

Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd had unbeatable chemistry on Moonlighting. In fact, their chemistry could be so volatile the show ultimately could not continue, although the success of Die Hard and other movie offers probably would’ve been an irresistible force for Willis regardless. At least there were five seasons of Moonlighting, all available on DVD and creator Glenn Gordon Caron is working on getting them available on streaming services. Until then, here are 10 other shows to capture the chemistry and comic mystery if you like Moonlighting.

I think (my memory is generally terrible) The Harbinger is the first film I have seen where the pandemic has played a big and important part in the story.
In the movie, Monique is currently quarantining with her family during the pandemic. But when her oldest friend, Mavis, reaches out in a state of fear, she chooses to visit her to help out. Mavis is suffering from nightmares in which she can’t wake up from, some times even days are passing and a demon – The Harbinger – is the one haunting her.
