As the title suggests, Dhokha: Round D Corner is about deceit at every corner. Dhokha is a crime thriller directed by Kookie Gulati featuring R Madhavan, Aparshakti Khurana, Darshan Kumaar and Khushalii Kumar in pivotal characters. This film marks the debut of Khushalii Kumar. Aparshakti Khurana is presented in a very interesting character. Dhokha is a crisp film that makes the audience keep guessing who to pin down and who is deceiving whom.
The film begins with the song ‘Tu Banke Hawa’, which introduces Yathaarth Sinha (R Madhavan) and Sanchi Sinha (Khushalii Kumar) as a newlywed couple having a ball of a time culminating to the ones that keep nagging and concludes with Khushalii asking for a divorce. The initial scenes set the tone that there is something amiss in the couple’s life. On one such morning Yathaarth, after a routine heated argument, reaches office and is surprised to...

Though Louis C.K.'s transgressions were widely considered the worst kept secret in the comedy world, to some, it really was a secret.
Stephen Colbert welcomed Samantha Bee to the stage at Njpac in Newark, New Jersey, on Dec. 6, where she was the special guest on Sad! A Happy Evening with Stephen Colbert & Samantha Bee, a fundraiser for the Montclair Film Festival.
During their hour-and-a-half-long chat, the longtime friends talked everything from dealing with politics (specifically President Donald Trump's tumultuous first-year in office) during their late night monologues -- Colbert hosts The Late Show on CBS while Bee is the face of Full Frontal on TBS -- as well as the seismic shift in culture surrounding sexual harassment since the Harvey Weinstein allegations came to light.

Starring Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Ileana D ‘Cruz, Aaathiya Shetty, Neha Sharma, Pavan Malhotra, Ratna Pathak
Directed by Anees Bazmee
Okay, not every movie experience has to be motivated by a socio-political purpose. Sometimes you just need to have fun at the movies.
I had loads of it last night in Mubarakan, one of the craziest homages to airheadeness in recent years.
Anees Bazmee’s film are deceptively naïve. They give the impression of being casual, flippant, inconsequential silly, goofy ….But sustaining this mood of anything-goes lunacy for more than two hours is no joke…and never mind the gush of jokey banter and situational comedy that has you scratching your head about who’s who and what’s what.
Very honestly I had a really tough time figuring out the plot line and the inter-relations of the characters. We were told at the start that Arjun Kapoor’s...

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) kicks off its 16th annual Doc Fortnight on Thursday, a 10-day festival that includes 20 feature-length non-fiction films and 10 documentary shorts. This year’s lineup includes four world premieres and a number of North American and U.S. premieres.

The festival is far from the only major North American showcase for non-fiction cinema. Festivals ranging from Hot Docs to True/False have played key roles in the expanding documentary festival circuit. However, Doc Fortnight has maintained its own niche on the scene, by aiming to expose undiscovered stories and filmmakers, screening a range of documentaries from around the world and capturing the ways in which artists are pushing the boundaries of non-fiction filmmaking.

Amy Schumer has become quite the comedienne, taking the stage, television, and now film by storm. Trainwreck, her starring vehicle for director Judd Apatow, was my first sustained exposure to her and thought the fresh eyes could glean what the fuss is all about. Still trying to figure it out.
The story is about a woman who is professional star and a personal wreck who meets and falls for a guy, only to screw it up at much the same time she screws up her relationship with her sister, and loses her job. That it is about a woman and not a man has garnered a lot of buzz but the overall story is tired and predictable.
Apatow’s previous films have offered up fresh takes on old themes along with sharply delineated characters that avoid the clichés and bring with them a tremendous amount of heart. In The 40-Year-Old Virgin,...

A new British independent feature – Amar Akbar & Tony by director Atul Malhotra, will be screening at the Mumbai Film Festival this October. The bitter-sweet romantic comedy has been listed in the Film India Worldwide category, and will be showing on 18th and 19th October, marking its first foray on the festival circuit.
Amusing, ironic and stark in turn, Malhotra’s Amar, Akbar & Tony, explores the rigid social taboos that can affect and distort the young and the families they interact with. It does so through the eyes of three childhood friends looking for love in multicultural London. Interracial romance, violence, sexuality, family, love and loss are themes that are explored and shared by the three main protagonists – Amar, Akbar and Tony, over a ten-year period – as the trio deal with the absurdities and unpredictability of life.

Officially selected for the New York Indian Film Festival, British webseries Three Shades of Brown will hold its World Premiere in the United States on Tuesday 6th May 2014, being shown in its entirety as a stand-alone 40-minute film.
Receiving the good news before even the pilot episode was released, Creator Shai Hussain remarks, “It’s great to see the faith that Nyiff holds for Three Shades, selecting to screen it even before we had a chance to prove there was an audience for such material.”
The film will be shown with English subtitles, due to feedback that one of the character’s Northern dialects was difficult to understand for the American ear.
Shai Hussain will be flying over to attend the festival, alongside one of the show’s stars, Omar Khan, and Associate Producer Hena Hussain. Executive Producer Pulkit Datta will also be in attendance, whose latest short film Acetate Diary...

Masala brilliance thy name is personified by Manmohan Desai. Masala filmmaking is that secret ingredient to nearly every film in this wide and bountiful Hindi film industry. Of course, filmmakers disguise these elements in the social message films, the love stories, the thrillers, and countless other genre-pictures. If we want something to break up the tension of love scene, add some dishoom-dishoom, or if you want to cool that down, throw in some smart comedy. The ability to freely mix genres and tropes was expertly done in the juggernaut Amar, Akbar, Anthony (Aaa). The late 70s were the beginnings of the Amitabh Bachchan industry and Amar Akbar Anthony marked the partnership between Bachchan and Desai.

Mumbai, June 7: Actors Zareen Khan and Rajeev Khandelwal had a narrow escape when their car collided with a truck while filming a chase sequence for "Amar Must Die". But the camera attendant was said to be seriously injured.
The accident happened Thursday in Kalyan when the car, in which they were sitting, collided with a truck carrying camera equipment.
"Both the vehicles were zooming at high speed for the action shot when the collision took place. Both Zareen and Rajeev escaped unhurt, but the camera attendant was badly injured," said a source.
"Amar Must Die", an action thriller, is the Hindi remake of Hollywood movie "Crank". The film is directed by Param Gill and produced by Remo D'Souza, who had directed "Abcd".

Babli badmash hai, sings Priyanka Chopra in one of the 3 utterly wasted item numbers in this film about blazing guns, flaring nostrils, sanguinary revenge and bleak atonement. Babli is not the only one who’s a badmaash here. The characters are all hardened players of the underworld from the 1970s. They all mean business in the business of being mean.
They sport the right clothes dialogues and attitude.
Yes, the detailing is deft.
Wordsmith Milap Zaveri who is the real hero hero of this film about fascist solutions to the conundrum of urban chaos, pulls out all stops to spread out an orgy of rhetorics and rhetorics all across the narrative. Everyone speaks as if they are reading out a copywriter’s wisdom from billboards and hoardings. Everyone is a smart ass in this film.

S. Hussain Zaidi is a Mumbai based investigative crime journalist, who has worked for some of India’s leading newspapers. One of his previous best selling books was Black Friday, which Anurag Kashyap successfully transformed onto screen. His most recent book is Dongri to Dubai: Six decades of the Mumbai Mafia and from this book has Shootout at Wadala been created. Sanjay Gupta says without it he could not have made this film, Anil Kapoor called it by far the best book on the Mumbai mafia and John Abraham hailed Zaidi as a master storyteller. If you have not had a chance to read the book, take it from us, it is an absolutely amazing book and having read the book recently, our expectations are sky high for the film. Further, Sanjay Gupta is back after a long hiatus and John Abraham attempts the role of gangster for the first time.

Ram Gopal Verma’s Satya was a landmark in the history of the Hindi film industry, and is still regarded as one of the best films in its genre. With his film The Attacks of 26/11, Rgv released the trailer of the sequel to Satya, Satya 2.
The trailer leads to mixed predictions about the film. The story is about a man who wants to revive the now passive underworld of Mumbai. But while Rgv’s typical camera angles makes one feel optimistically inclined towards the film, the dialogues and ‘extra’ expression puts one back at rest. With the typical Lokhandwala Bridge shot to give that ‘powerful’ Mumbai feel, the trailer more or less causes a little distress considering no one wants to dislike the iconic Satya. However, something that saved the trailer from going down in the dumps is the much entertaining background score by Amar Mohile.

The song will be used as a promotional video only. Incidentally it was music director Amar Mohile who convinced Ramu to get behind the mike to get the right tone and emotions required for this song.

Films that gained a ‘cult following’ over the years, despite being unnoticed on release
Silsila
Yash Chopra is looked upon as the grandfather of candyfloss romance, an antithesis to the more ‘artistic’ genre of films. One wonders why. Here’s what his early films were about:
Unwed mothers and illegitimate children – Dhool ka Phool (1959)
Partition and the rise of Hindu fundamentalism – Dharmputra (1961)
Taut, song less thriller about a fugitive, a lone woman and a corpse – Ittefaq (1969)
A man who lives with his wife and the ‘other woman’, Hindi Cinema’s first Ménage à trois- Daag (1973)
In 1981, we had another of his equally risqué works, Silsila. Expectedly, sparks flew when the Screen God of the time shared screen space with the reigning diva. Rekha and Amitabh were quite an item on screen and allegedly, off screen too. The grapevine has it that Chopra was inspired to make Silsila on this relationship...

Even before the movie hit the theatres, Vikram Bhatt’s Hate Story had created a lot of hubbub in the social media with blatant sexuality in its promotional videos and trailers. Apparently, the distribution rights were picked up almost instantly, following the impact that the promotion created. Producer Vikram Bhatt, with the PR agency of the film has seemingly done everything to tag his latest flick as an erotic thriller with titillating bare back posters and trailers which contained the movie’s most raunchy scenes. Albeit the fact that the movie has a lot of love making scenes, it fails to live up to the hype it created during its promotions. For all those people who are wondering if this movie can be one of their morning show options No is the answer.

Yes, that’s the sole motto that Bittoo Boss, V.D.O. Shooter has for the audience in Supavitra Babul’s latest flick Bittoo Boss. Set in the heart of Punjab in a place called Anantpur, Wide Frame Pictures and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures’ Bittoo Boss is a story of a small town wedding videographer Bittoo (Pulkit Samrat) who earns a living from video shooting wedding ceremonies. What makes him stand out from the others in his line of business is the way he crafts the wedding videos ensuring complete involvement of all the amusing kin in a wedding.
Bittoo is definitely not a prototypical videographer and he makes it a point to include the kattos (wannabe dulhans) of the house for a special photo shoot. He takes complete pride in what he does and goes out of the way to capture those sesky naach gaanas.

There is a nip in the British air…The verdant tranquility of Birmingham is torn apart by the kind of domestic violence that we read about and talk only in hushed whispers, and that too when references are made to supposedly primitive practices in the psychologically-undeveloped section of North India.
But honour killing in ‘civilized’ England? Nah! This one has got to be just one of those exaggerated dramas of the damned that come along to shock us in the movies.
It’s astonishing how quickly and expertly writer-director Avantika Hari does away with our cynical reading of the volatile subject. The script approaches its gentle characters, a cultured Muslim family keeping its head high(and veiled, of course) in a super-cosmopolitan society that constantly threatens to blow the lid off the conservative core of the family nucleus.
