Difficult People gets political, going wholly anti-“Bazinga!” in its Season 3 premiere.
The Hulu comedy returned Tuesday with three episodes, beginning with Billy and Julie interrupting CBS’ live broadcast of Sunday in the Park With George, which has been retitled Bazinga in the Park With George and stars the cast of The Big Bang Theory. Billy’s sign reads “Keep your Bazinga! out of my park,” and it’s perfect.

Ever since Game of Thrones became a huge hit on television, there has periodically been an attempt to replicate that sort of work on the big screen. This week, the latest shot is taken by filmmaker Guy Ritchie with his origin story/potential franchise starter King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. In tackling another blockbuster, Ritchie is firmly entrenching himself in a world far removed from his smaller British gangster tales that gave him his start. Regardless of the quality of the film itself, it’s interesting to see an auteur take a hard right turn like this one in particular has. He’s attempting to replicate what’s working on HBO here with this origin story, which is easier said than done. The movie is a look at how the boy king Arthur (Charlie Hunnam) was robbed of his birthright and the lengths he’ll ultimately go to get it back.

We chatted to actor Rory Kinnear about his roles in Sky Atlantic's Guerrilla, Bond, Penny Dreadful and more…
In Rory Kinnear’s first answer during our chat about his role in Sky Atlantic drama Guerrilla, he makes a wry joke at his own expense. He’s not a well-known actor, he says, and perhaps not one with “a particularly heroic face!” he laughs when we talk about the moral complexity of his roles. Give him an outright compliment and he deflects the praise elsewhere, onto writers and directors, John Logan for Penny Dreadful, John Ridley for Guerrilla. His role as Bill Tanner in the James Bond franchise is a “very, very small” part of an enormous machine, he stresses.

“Jean-Claude Van Johnson”
“’Timecop’ is like ‘Looper’ with Bruce Willis, but a million times better,” is just one of the gems spoken in “Jean-Claude Van Johnson” which is as gloriously ridiculous as its title.
What the Amazon pilot lacks in plot — action star Jean-Claude Van Damme comes out of retirement to act as a private contractor specializing in kicking ass and doing the splits — it makes up for with indiscriminate jabs at everything and anyone, including its star, Hollywood, pretentious foodies and even America’s Undulating Beefcake, Channing Tatum. A surprising appearance by Phylicia Rashad, who gamely plays Jean-Claude’s agent, is a comic revelation. She delivers the most absurd movie pitches with such enthusiasm that we’re ready to sign up for the “P.F. Chang’s” biopic ourselves.
The only real disappointment is the lackluster treatment of Jean-Claude’s love interest Vanessa (Kat Foster), who isn’t given much to work with story-wise.

A wise woman named Sheryl Crow once said, “a change will do you good.” For Irene, a pretty 23-year old-ish artistically inclined misfit, it’s as simple as a haircut.
A scathing critique of the modeling industry as a search for belonging and friendship turns into an absurd and at times cringe-inducing comedy, Chemical Cut is a fresh feature written, directed, edited and staring Marjorie Conrad, a former contestant on America’s Top Model. Parodying a world where artists and models are expected to work for free — often in uncomfortable, morally compromising positions for a “resume item” — the parody emerges into a disturbing psychological drama as Irene is pushed to the brink.
We meet Irene as she works full time in a Los Angeles boutique. She spends her evenings hanging out with her Gbf Arthur (Ian Coster), an aspiring novelist who ultimately decides to travel abroad for his Mfa. Growing...

Norma Shearer: The Boss' wife was cast in 'The Divorcee.' Norma Shearer movies on TCM: Early talkies and Best Actress Oscar Note: This Norma Shearer article is currently being revised and expanded. Please Check back later. Norma Shearer, one of the top stars in Hollywood history and known as the Queen of MGM back in the 1930s, is Turner Classic Movies' Star of the Month of Nov. 2015. That's the good news. The not-so-good news is that even though its parent company, Time Warner, owns most of Shearer's movies, TCM isn't airing any premieres. So, if you were expecting to check out a very young Norma Shearer in The Devil's Circus, Upstage, or After Midnight, you're out of luck. (I've seen all three; they're all worth a look.) It's a crime that, music score or no, restored print or no, TCM/Time Warner don't make available for viewing the...

The Woman in Black
Written by Nigel Kneale, based on a novel by Susan Hill
Directed by Herbert Wise
Aired on ITV on December 24, 1989
My first memories of Susan Hill’s The Woman in Black were not from the long-running stage play nor the recent film starring Daniel Radcliffe. Instead, my first memories of the classic ghost story were through the TV spots for the UK adaptation that were so chilling, they caused many sleepless nights. 23 years later, it is now time to lay those ghosts to rest.
First broadcast on Christmas Eve, 1989, though rarely repeated since, The Woman in Black stars Adrian Rawlins as Arthur Kidd (the name was changed from Kipps for the adaptation), a young lawyer who is sent to the small town of Crythin Gifford to overlook the sale of Eel Marsh House after the recent death of its owner, Mrs. Drablow. Upon arriving in Crythin...

The Witching Hour is an anthology by a mixture of new and long-establishing comics talents to tell eight page stories that somehow deal with ghosts and witches. Some of the stories are scary. Others are emotional or funny. They have a wide variety of settings from 19th Century England to a future mission to Mars. The majority of them deal with some kind of problem, like war, child abuse, homophobia, misogyny, or just plain hate. The best thing about anthologies is even if one story is horrid, there are two...

Ramon Novarro and Greta Garbo in ‘Mata Hari’: The wrath of the censors (See previous post: "Ramon Novarro in One of the Best Silent Movies.") George Fitzmaurice’s romantic spy melodrama Mata Hari (1931) was well received by critics and enthusiastically embraced by moviegoers. The Greta Garbo / Ramon Novarro combo — the first time Novarro took second billing since becoming a star — turned Mata Hari into a major worldwide blockbuster, with $2.22 million in worldwide rentals. The film became Garbo’s biggest international success to date, and Novarro’s highest-grossing picture after Ben-Hur. (Photo: Ramon Novarro and Greta Garbo in Mata Hari.) Among MGM’s 1932 releases — Mata Hari opened on December 31, 1931 — only W.S. Van Dyke’s Tarzan, the Ape Man, featuring Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O’Sullivan, and Edmund Goulding’s all-star Best Picture Academy Award winner Grand Hotel (also with Garbo, in addition to Joan Crawford, John Barrymore, Wallace Beery, and...

It has been said no one can take Sherlock Holmes and put him in the modern day; he is forever stuck in Victorian London. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have proved this so wrong.
Sherlock” (PBS, BBC DVD) is one of the brightest shining beacons of TV. There’s nothing ‘elementary’ about it (See what I did there?).
The entertainingly named Benedict Cumberbatch plays our 21st century master detective, and has, with the rest of the crew, given new life blood to classic mysteries.
Whereas the recent Holmes film series keeps the original time frame but adds lots of pyrotechnics, the TV show takes Arthur Conan Doyles original conceits and makes them thoroughly modern.
While the traditional Dr. John Watson keeps a diary that is eventually published, today he (Martin Freeman, from the U.K. “Office” and upcoming Hobbit films) writes a popular blog. He’s still a war veteran,...

The Woman In Black (2012) Former “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe, looking convincingly older than his 22 years, stars in James Watkins’ old-fashioned horror tale “The Woman in Black”. The young lad plays Arthur Kipps, a lawyer and widowed father to a young boy. Arthur is still grieving the death of his wife, when he’s sent to a creepy old village in the boondocks, where he must settle a creepy old mansion for auction. Immediately upon arrival, Arthur is subjected to creepy stares by the village’s uber creepy residences, who fears that the city slicker’s presence may unsettle an old legend involving a ghostly woman in black, whose every appearance signals the violent death of a village child. No sooner does Arthur settle into the creepy old mansion just outside the village do violent deaths begin befalling the village’s children. So, uh, I guess the legend is true after all.

Ever since news broke that Hammer was planning a sequel to the surprise hit "The Woman in Black," the question on every young Potter fan's lips was "But will Daniel Radcliffe be back?"
Spoilers ahead.
The big looming problem with any potential reprise by Arthur Kipps, Radcliffe's character in the first film, is that he died and apparently moved onto the afterlife with his son and wife. Then considering that the plot of the second film, "Angelof Death," will take place 40 years after the events of the original, a Radcliffe cameo seemed less and less likely.
But new details from Hammer's CEO hint that an appearance is not out of the realm of possibilities. Learn more after the jump!
At a special screening for "Woman in Black," Hammer CEO Simon Oakes spoke about the sequel, according to Bleeding Cool. Oakes would not offer too many details up on "Angel of Death,...

The Woman in Black; Carnage; Safe House; House of Tolerance
After scaring the jeepers out of parents who couldn't believe their Harry Potter-loving offspring were allowed to watch this kind of thing, The Woman in Black (2012, Momentum, 12) ships up on DVD in the same slightly trimmed version that avoided a 15 certificate through judicious shortening. Having co-written the supremely nasty My Little Eye and gone for the jugular in the viscerally satirical Eden Lake, director James Watkins here foregrounds atmosphere over shocks, looking toward the templates of The Orphanage and The Others with impressively shiversome results.
Deftly adapted by Kick-Ass screenwriter Jane Goldman from Susan Hill's novel (which itself owed a debt to Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House), this gas-lit period creeper sees Daniel Radcliffe's dowdy lawyer Arthur Kipps sent to close the affairs of an abandoned house whose grounds are separated from the world by a foggy causeway.

The Woman In Black
Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Ciarán Hinds, Liz White, Janet McTeer | Written by Jane Goldman | Directed by James Watkins
The film adaptation of The Woman In Black is kind of a big deal in little ways. It’s based on a well-known and loved book, which was also the inspiration for one of the longest running plays in the West End. And of course, it’s Daniel Radcliffe’s first film after the end of the Harry Potter series.
As book-to-screen adaptations go, Jane Goldman’s script is possibly one of the most unfaithful I can think of. Not in a bad way though, for the big screen it makes sense to add and change things. The basic ghost story is the same, but it plays out a little differently, and details here and there have been altered. The book and play have a much simpler, very-British ghost story,...

Considering the rather definitive ending of "The Woman in Black," it might come as a surprise to find out that Hammer Films is planning a sequel to their most recent horror film. But the British production company has hired Jon Coker, who worked as story editor on "The Woman in Black," to come in and pen a sequel that takes place after the time of Arthur Kipps.
Yes, that does mean Daniel Radcliffe won't be starring in the new film. In fact, he likely won't even make a cameo, unless the movie's Big Twist is that he is now the Woman in Black (we doubt it). We haven't had many details about the project, but now Shock Till You Drop has gotten their hands on a plot synopsis for the upcoming sequel. Check it out after the jump.

Director: James Watkins. Review: Adam Wing. Based on the classic ghost story by Susan Hill, The Woman In Black sees Daniel Radcliffe make a clean break from all things Hogwarts and Hermione. It tells the tale of Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a young solicitor who is forced to leave his young son (Misha Handley) and travel to a remote village to attend to the affairs of Alice Drablow, the recently deceased owner of Eel Marsh House. His wife died in childbirth, leaving Arthur alone to raise their child. Though he’s working by himself, Kipps senses that he’s not alone in the mansion, a theory backed up by the sound of footsteps and a mysterious figure big on surprises. The locals clearly don’t want him around – “Don’t go chasing shadows Arthur” – but Kipps is unfazed by the lack of hospitality and starts to uncover the tragic secrets that threaten them all.

The Woman in Black is the first period piece from the re-launched Hammer Films and was generally well received by critics and moviegoers when it was released to theaters in February.
With the film’s recent released to Blu-ray, I wanted to revisit the movie and felt pretty much the same way about it that I did when I saw it in theaters. I’ve included my impressions from the previous review, along with new comments, and details on the Blu-ray extras.
Daniel Radcliffe plays lawyer Arthur Kipps in his first post-Harry Potter role. Arthur’s wife died during child birth and he’s having a tough time coping. With his career on the line, he has one last chance to prove his commitment to his law firm. The task seems simple enough: Arthur has to sort out paperwork from a recently deceased client, but things don’t go as...

From a career standpoint, “The Woman in Black” is a very smart move for Daniel Radcliffe. A straightforward but modestly budgeted and staged genre period piece that neither requires a more difficult test of the “Harry Potter” star’s box office drawing power (as a twee indie flick might) nor requires him to venture too far out of his comfort zone, director James Watkins’ movie is a moderately engaging actor’s showcase. It was also a solid box office hit, pulling in over $125 million, including $70-plus million overseas. If only the isolated village where James Watkins' The Woman In Black is set simply took the time to put up warnings in front of the imposing manor where the titular vengeful spirit dwells, things might have worked out better for everyone involved. Nothing too complicated, a simple "Stay away, ghost within who causes misery, kills children" would have sufficed, non-believers be damned. Unfortunately, as written by Jane Goldman's (X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass) script, they're a taciturn bunch straight out of a mid-60's Hammer picture, and they'd rather give a stranger in town like grieving solicitor Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) the stinkeye than give him a clear, reasoned warning about why he needs to stay the hell away from that house. Nevertheless, to the house...

A horror film set in classic tones, with a small English village holding tight to a dark secret, The Woman in Black is one of the best of the genre I have seen in recent years. From the onset, when we see Daniel Radcliffe.s character holding the straight razor to his throat as he looks in the mirror and finishes shaving, the audience knows there is something definitely not right in Arthur Kipps. life. Other clues are given to the audience in small tidbits. Kipps closing his briefcase on papers that have .overdue. stamped on them. Kipps talking to his boss before he takes the trip, and his boss reminding him this is his last chance -...

After several false starts and weak efforts, the much-promised revival of Hammer horror films has finally come to fruition with the release of The Woman in Black, an old-fashioned ghost story that ranks with the finest achievements of the legendary British production company. The story is set in the early 1900s. Daniel Radcliffe gives an excellent performance as Arthur Kipps, a young London-based lawyer who is already a widower, his beloved wife having died while giving birth to their son. Kipps tries his best to juggle being a single parent with the demands of his profession, but his unrelenting grief prevents him from fulfilling his duties at the office. His boss gives him one last chance to redeem himself by sending him to a remote village to investigate a complicated insurance situation relating to a recently deceased person. The Woman in Black, the British specter that scared up $120 million worldwide this past winter, is set to return in a follow-up to the surprise horror hit, but the leading man, Daniel Radcliffe, probably won't be around for a second encounter.
Hammer, Alliance Films and Cross Creek Pictures, along with Susan Hill, the author of "The Woman in Black" novel, have announced a follow-up called "Angels of Death." The proposed story will take place 40 years after the first film starring Radcliffe, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
Spoilers ahead.
For those of you who saw "The Woman In Black," two problems with this setup should strike you. First of all, setting the film 40 years later would age Radcliffe's character Arthur Kipps beyond the ages the actor could realistically play.
Oh, and there is the small problem that Radcliffe's character dies at the end of "The Woman in Black." You'd have to imagine...

The Woman in Black was a big win for Hammer and it has been announced that they are working with the book’s author on a sequel. Titled The Woman in Black: Angels of Death, the new story is said to “focus on a couple and the experience they have when they encounter the same eerie house.”
Jon Croker was the story editor on the first movie and has been hired as the screenwriter for the sequel. While this announcement signals that development of the sequel is moving forward, it isn’t far enough along where a director or actors have signed on. We’re assuming that there would be interest to bring back at least some of the supporting cast, as the film will take place in the same town.
Susan Hill’s novel of the same name was published in 1983 and has since been turned into a...

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are rich enough to never work again – but who has the talent and ambition for adult success?
Three weeks after its release, The Woman in Black has claimed a remarkable achievement: it is by some distance the most successful homegrown horror film ever released in Britain.
Equally significantly, perhaps, it marks the transition of the Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe – playing the lead role of widowed solicitor Arthur Kipps – from one of the most successful, well paid child stars of all time to something approaching a grown-up acting career.
For all the fame and money the bespectacled Hogwarts schoolboy has brought Radcliffe over the eight-film franchise, he could provide a straitjacket for the 22-year-old actor. Radcliffe's Potter co-stars, Emma Watson, 21, and Rupert Grint, 23, face a near-identical dilemma. All three spent their teenage years in front of the cameras, becoming solidly identified with a single character.
