You wouldn’t expect an animated film about a talking iguana to draw equal inspiration from Andy Kaufman and “It’s a Wonderful Life,” but that just might help explain the wide appeal of Netflix’s smash hit “Leo.” It also makes perfect sense when you consider the creative minds behind Adam Sandler-led project, which includes his longtime collaborator and comedy’s not-so-secret weapon, Robert Smigel.
Though perhaps best known to audiences for his work as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, the foul-mouthed canine puppet who began life on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien,” where Smigel was the first head writer. But Smigel was also behind some of the most memorable comic moments of the last 30 years. On “Saturday Night Live” he created countless indelible sketches and the animated segment “TV Funhouse,” which received its own spin-off series on Comedy Central. He wrote and performed on the brilliant but short-lived “Dana Carvey Show,...

Did Lifetime reach out to you about wanting to do your story? What inspired you to join forces at Lifetime?
Yeah, after I had written the book, People magazine reached out to me, and I did the People magazine article last year.

George Bailey: I’m shakin’ the dust of this crummy little town off my feet and I’m gonna see the world. Italy, Greece, the Parthenon, the Coliseum. Then, I’m comin’ back here to go to college and see what they know. And then I’m gonna build things. I’m gonna build airfields, I’m gonna build skyscrapers a hundred stories high, I’m gonna build bridges a mile long…
Uncle Billy: They did, they did it, George, they voted Potter down. And they only had one condition, and that’s the best part. They want you to run the Building and Loan.
George Bailey: No, no, this is my last chance to get away from here. Harry Bailey is your man, he will run the Building and Loan.
Uncle Billy: But George, they’ll vote with Potter otherwise…
Mary Bailey: George Bailey lassos stork.
George Bailey: Mary…...

Axelle Carolyn was a horror fanatic long before she was a horror filmmaker, beginning her career as a journalist for Fangoria magazine before directing a number of horror shorts and picking up small roles in films including two of husband Neil Marshall's films: 2008 post-apocalyptic actioner "Doomsday" and the historical war film "Centurion" starring Michael Fassbender. In 2013, she made her feature directorial debut with the supernatural horror film "Soulmate," which premiered at that year's Sitges Film Festival. No doubt Carolyn's biggest effort to date is the upcoming horror anthology "Tales of Halloween," for which she rounded up a number of fellow filmmakers including Lucky McKee ("May, "The Woman"), Darren Lynn Bousman ("Saw II-IV") and Marshall -- who directs the film's final segment "The Bad Seed" -- for ten tales of All Hallows Eve-themed terror. Not only did she create and produce the film, Carolyn also directed one of the segments -- "Grim Grinning Ghost,...

To celebrate the October 16th release of the horror anthology Tales of Halloween, Daily Dead spoke to the filmmakers behind the movie to discuss the project, their individual contributions and more.
First up is Axelle Carolyn, the writer and director of 2013’s Soulmate, who first spearheaded the anthology and whose creepy, atmospheric segment “Grimm Grinning Ghost” stars Alex Essoe (Starry Eyes) as a young woman confronted by an urban legend in which she does not believe.
As one of the masterminds behind Tales of Halloween, can you give some background on how the project came together?
Axelle Carolyn: I’ve been friends with these guys for the best part of ten years, and had been thinking for a while that it'd be great to work on something together. There's an awesome horror community in L.A., and we all hang together to talk horror, watch horror, eat, breathe and live horror.

Grr, argh. Sit, Ubu, sit. I made this! What’s the story behind the production company tags added onto our favourite TV shows?
Closing logos have evolved into a TV production company’s tiny stamp of individuality. They’re a single snippet of screen time not at the mercy of network notes, audience feedback or sponsorship concerns.
A closing tag doesn’t need to sell a show, tell a story, or lasso an audience back for the next episode. It’s simply a signature, a few seconds entirely belonging to the creatives, to do with what they will.
As such, closing logos are as self-indulgent or esoteric as the production company wills them. They’re perhaps the only place in television production where in-jokes, family photos, personal homages (or extended rants in the case of one comedy producer) and kid-drawn scribbles usually found taped to the fridge door are entirely welcome.

Before she started doing the rounds for Into the Woods, Meryl Streep was busy shooting Ricki and the Flash, where she plays a guitar-thrashing performer who works at a grocery for her day job. Vulture recently caught up with script supervisor Mary Bailey, who was being honored at the New York Women in Film & Television's Muse Awards, where she revealed that Streep goes all-in for Jonathan Demme's dramedy. “Meryl is totally rocking out throughout the movie. I mean, she just went for it," Bailey said. "Wait until you see her: She’s got these long blonde extensions and skintight pants. I feel like every time I see her in this look, it takes my breath away. She’s the same person, but the transformation is so believable.” This isn't the first time Bailey has witnessed Streep completely slip into a role. She was on set with her for Angels in America,...

jericho-s2e6.Jpg" alt="Jericho" />Previously on jericho.aspx" >Jericho: Goetz killed Bonnie, and in return, Stanley killed Goetz in a morally questionable act. Jericho and New Bern appeared to come to an agreement, seemingly united against the oppressive occupation of Ravenwood and J&R.
Major Beck, none too pleased about the murder of Goetz, orders his men to round up the usual suspects: those being our main characters. They invade Mary Bailey's bar. Jake (jericho/profile/skeet-ulrich.aspx">Skeet Ulrich) and the Jericho Rangers are holed up and Stanley (jericho/profile/brad_beyer.aspx">Brad Beyer) wants to turn himself in.
Jake walks into town to take full responsibility as sheriff. He offers his surrender in exchange for the other Rangers to go free. Beck accepts the surrender, but not the terms. Beck interrogates him for the truth, but he actually knows exactly what happened and he just wants Stanley.
