NEW YORK -- MSG Networks has named Michael Bair as president, effective Feb. 1. Bair, a longtime TV sports executive with Cablevision who has also held positions at HBO and Showtime, has been a top executive with the Cablevision-owned New York Rangers. In his new role, he'll oversee the MSG Network and FSN New York -- two regional sports networks covering the New York region -- as well as MSG Radio, Gardenvision and MSG New Media. He replaces Mike McCarthy, whose departure was previously announced. McCarthy will remain with the company in a "transitional role" before becoming a consultant for the company. Cablevision vice chairman Hank Ratner said Bair is a "perfect match" to lead MSG Networks into the future. Bair told interviewers Thursday that despite a fragmented media landscape, he felt live sports had delivered value to advertisers. He plans to create more programming that extends that value, he said.
