The wildly popular NBC series Friends was still four years into the future when one of its biggest stars began appearing in music videos for Jon Bon Jovi. In 1990, Matt LeBlanc was trying to make a name for himself in the entertainment industry when he was tapped to star in a video for Jon Bon Jovi’s first solo project, Blaze of Glory. He would go on to film a second one at the height of his Friends fame as well.

Duane Eddy, one of rock’s first guitar heroes and an idol of George Harrison, Jeff Beck, John Fogerty, Dan Auerbach, and many other guitar-slingers who followed, died Sunday at his home in Franklin, Tennessee. He was 86. A source close to the family confirmed Eddy’s death to Rolling Stone.

As a result of this, Depp lost his roles in “Fantastic Beasts” and “Pirates of the Caribbean,” along with some others. While he’s not where he used to be career-wise, he’s grateful for having been giving a shot in Maïwen’s ‘Jeanne Du Barry.’

Slash has unveiled the latest single from his upcoming blues album, Orgy of the Damned, set to arrive on May 17th. The Guns N’ Roses guitarist teams up with country superstar Chris Stapleton on a cover of Fleetwood’s Mac’s “Oh Well.”

Mark Knopfler has teamed up with a host of fellow guitar legends to record a version of his song “Going Home (Theme from Local Hero)” to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.
The Dire Straits frontman tapped Eric Clapton, Slash (Guns N’ Roses), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Brian May (Queen), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Pete Townshend (The Who), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Bruce Springsteen, Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones), Joan Jett, and many more, forming what he has dubbed “Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes.” Notably, the star-studded version opens with the final recorded guitar track by the late Jeff Beck.

The late 1950s and the entirety of the 1960s was the golden age for big, brawny, studio-produced action-adventure epics. Films like "The Bridge on the River Kwai," "The Guns of Navarone," and "The Train" plopped big movie stars in the midst of finely crafted yarns about unflappable heroes pooling their expertise to pull off seemingly impossible tasks. Most of these were next-phase World War II movies that eschewed the reverential tone of the films made in the immediate wake of the conflict's end; they were less about the Axis enemy, and more about the ingenuity of men in high-pressure situations. When done well, they were hailed by critics and ticket-buyers alike.
And with due respect to the many entertaining entries in this subgenre, none of them can match the armrest-shredding suspense and rousing camaraderie of John Sturges "The Great Escape."

Aerosmith rocked Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center over the weekend as they began their Peace Out farewell tour.

Jimmy Page was desperate to leave life as a session musician behind in the mid-1960s. The guitarist knew he had to quit as a session guitarist when producers asked him to play muzak instead of music. Yet the grass wasn’t all that much greener on the other side. Page hooked up with the Yardbirds and encountered a manager who didn’t like him because he looked like a bully but recognized his talent.
Yardbirds manager Simon Napier-Bell ‘never liked Jimmy Page’ because he looked like a bully but recognized the guitarist’s talent
Page turned down an initial invitation to join the Yardbirds in 1965. At that point, he still wanted to be a session player so he could learn more about recording techniques (which turned out to be immensely helpful when he produced Led Zeppelin’s albums). He recommended his friend, Jeff Beck, instead.

Los Angeles, July 21 (Ians) Hollywood star Johnny Depp’s fans can get their hands on his signed self-portrait, the creation of which helped him heal during a challenging five-year period of his life, with $200 from each painting sold going to a mental health charity.

Led Zeppelin was one of the best live bands of their era. Jimmy Page, John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant formed an exquisitely tight and talented group. Seeing Zep live was like torture for Queen’s Brian May because they set the bar so high. Woodstock remains one of the most iconic music festivals of all time.iSo why didn’t Led Zeppelin play at Woodstock? Rod Stewart is trading rock ‘n’ roll for swing music after completing his extensive 2023 tour, he said in a recent interview with BBC Breakfast. Watch the clip below.
“I’m not retiring,” Stewart said to BBC host Charlie Stayt. “I’ve just done a swing album with Jools Holland, which is going to come out next year, so I want to go in that direction. I just want to leave all the rock ‘n’ roll stuff behind — for a while, maybe.”
Stewart, while sitting next to upcoming tourmate Boy George, expressed excitement and anticipation for the career pivot, adding that he’s “really looking forward to doing something else” and how his forthcoming work with Jools Holland’s band “borders on rock ‘n’ roll anyway, it’s just not ‘Maggie May’ and ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?'”
It’s not the first time Stewart has mentioned a desire for genre change.

Though they’re forever tied together because of one guitar (more on that later), most music fans wouldn’t confuse Jimmy Page and Joe Walsh. Many people considered Page one of the best guitarists of all time before he formed Led Zeppelin, and his playing only improved in the band. Walsh, famously of the Eagles, is a fine player with a niche of his own. Yet Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen says Page and Walsh have one thing in common — they are both underrated in their own way.

As we mentioned, Page and Walsh occupy their own chapters in the classic rock story.
Page was the creative force in one of the biggest bands ever. Walsh flew more under the radar, but his playing was no less impressive.

Say the name Jimmy Page, and Led Zeppelin fans can practically close their eyes and conjure his image. They see the guitarist’s wavy black hair cascading over his face as he plays scorching solos. Or the Led Zeppelin founder slinging his custom-made double-necked instrument or one of his Gibson Les Paul guitars owned by other musicians first. Though seemingly tied to Gibsons during his Zep career, Page brought in an old friend for his famous “Stairway to Heaven” solo.

The custom double-necked guitar we mentioned earlier? Page needed that Gibson Eds-1275 to perform “Stairway to Heaven” live. The build from gentle intro to strummed 12-string fanfare to blistering solo required an instrument that could do it all.
It was a different story in the studio.

Johnny Depp is “devastated” by an injury that has caused a change of events in his band’s touring schedule.
The Hollywood actor revealed Monday morning that he “fractured [his] ankle” in a post shared to his Instagram Story, prompting his group, The Hollywood Vampires, to reschedule some tour dates.
“My dear friends, I am sorry to say that I have fractured my ankle, which is a drag!!! It began as a hairline break but somewhere between Cannes and the Royal Albert Hall it got worse rather than better,” he wrote. “Several medical professionals have strongly suggested I avoid any and all activity for the moment and so am sadly unable to travel at this time.

The Hollywood Vampires – the supergroup of Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry – has postponed three scheduled North American tour dates this week due to an ankle injury suffered by Depp.
The shows, originally set for May 30, May 31 and June 1 in Manchester, Nh, Boston and Bethel, NY, respectively, have been rescheduled for late July, according to an announcement by the band.
“We are sad to share that the Hollywood Vampires will be rescheduling our three US tour dates this coming week,” the band says on its social media accounts. “Johnny has sustained a painful injury to his ankle following his recent appearances and has been advised by his doctor not to travel. He is devastated by this turn of events, but looks forward to resting up so all four Vampires can bring their absolute best to the tour in Europe.”
The three original U.S. dates had been planned as as a lead-in to a European tour that includes stops in Romania, Turkey, Bulgaria, France and others.
Depp recently performed on stage in a couple of U.K. Jeff Beck tribute concerts. Just prior to those shows he greeted press at the Cannes Film Festival to promote his latest movie Jeanne du Barry.

For Jimmy Page, his performances on Led Zeppelin albums were just blueprints for their live shows. His main riffs rarely changed, but the guitarist rarely played note-for-note renditions of his solos even as his playing improved in Led Zeppelin. That included “Stairway to Heaven.” Until it didn’t.
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page | Laurance Ratner/WireImage Jimmy Page said 1 of his ‘Stairway to Heaven’ solos was different from the rest
Page’s best guitar solos from Led Zeppelin albums — variously played on his Fender Telecaster, Gibson Les Paul guitars, and one Gibson Flying V — remain among the greatest of the classic rock era. Yet when the band performed live, those solos changed as Zep breathed new life into their songs during their concerts.
Long story short — Page almost never played his solos live like he did on the albums. The first time he attempted it happened nearly 20 years after Led Zeppelin broke up.

A star-studded gathering of musicians honored the late guitar legend Jeff Beck with two tribute shows on Monday (May 22nd) and Tuesday (May 23rd) at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Eric Clapton, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Rod Stewart, Johnny Depp, Zz Top’s Billy Gibbons, and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry were among the major names who took the stage to perform material and covers that Beck himself played during his lifetime.
Highlights included a rousing cover of Beck and Depp’s take on “Isolation” by John Lennon — performed by Hammett, Gibbons, and Depp (who released the song as a collaborative single with Beck in 2022); Stewart tearing through a four-song medley with Clapton; and Gibbons and Depp taking on Zz Top’s “Rough Boy,” a song Beck and Gibbons used to play together.

Singer-songwriter Paul Simon, who at 81 has just released his 15th studio album, titled Seven Psalms, has revealed a recent hearing loss in his left ear and says the condition has left him doubting he’ll tour again.
In an interview with UK’s The Times, Simon said the hearing loss struck while he was writing the new album. “Quite suddenly, I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and nobody has an explanation for it,” he told the publication. “So everything became more difficult.”
The Graceland singer said he was more frustrated and annoyed than angered by the hearing loss “because I thought it would pass, it would repair itself.” The condition, however, has not improved, and he now has doubts that he’ll perform live again, a decision reinforced by both a 2020 bout with Covid and his lack of enthusiasm for singing some of his old songs.

Jimmy Page needed time to find the desire to join a band after Led Zeppelin folded. Drummer John Bonham’s tragic death in 1980 brought a sudden end to the band Page formed in 1968 and guided to worldwide success in the 1970s. The Firm, featuring Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers, was that band. He was the unquestioned boss in Led Zeppelin, but Rodgers told Page to take a back seat on The Firm song “Radioactive.”

Page’s quiet career in right after Led Zeppelin folded — composing the Death Wish II soundtrack and piecing together the posthumous Led Zeppelin album Coda — received a boost in 1983. The guitarist was one of many classic rock icons who joined the Arms (Action into Research for Multiple Sclerosis) benefit concerts.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival could be a defining moment for Johnny Depp’s acting career comeback. Jeanne du Barry will open this year’s festival on the evening of May 16 in a coup for Depp and widely known French multihyphenate Maïwenn. The period royal drama stars Depp as King Louis Xv, while Maïwenn plays the titular character in addition to directing.
The following day, Depp will participate in the festival’s official press conference for Jeanne du Barry, according to sources familiar with his schedule.
The various events — as well as the movie itself — will provide a chance for Hollywood to assess Depp’s current composure. “I haven’t seen the movie, but it feels like was a good way for him [Depp] to get into back into everything,” says a veteran specialty distributor.

Dior is doubling down on its relationship with Johnny Depp.
The French luxury fashion house and cosmetics giant, which stood by the star even when he faced choppy PR waters amid his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, has signed Depp to a massive deal, marking the biggest men’s fragrance pact ever.
Sources peg the three-year deal at upwards of $20 million, which eclipses Robert Pattinson’s $12 million deal to serve as a spokesperson for Dior Homme and Brad Pitt’s $7 million pact to promote Chanel No. 5. A source familiar with the fragrance industry says most A-listers with fragrance deals pull in around $2 million-$4 million per year like Chris Pine, whose deal with Armani is valued at $4 million a year over 3 years.
Dior didn’t respond to a request for comment. A rep for Depp declined comment.

Jimmy Page had to up his game on Led Zeppelin III, especially on album centerpiece “Since I’ve Been Loving You.” The minor-key slow blues was a gear shift for the band that contributed to negative reviews for Led Zeppelin III, but Page explained how his solo approach on “Since I’ve Been Loving You” is exactly like the Zep classic “Stairway to Heaven.”

Once Jimmy Page formed Led Zeppelin in 1968, the band worked almost constantly for several years. They connected with their fans almost immediately — an early show convinced singer Robert Plant the band might mean something — and gave them plenty of material. Several albums and hundreds of concerts over Zep’s first three years together built their reputation. But missing the chance to see another legendary guitarist — Jimi Hendrix — perform is something Page regrets about Led Zeppelin’s early days.

The Beatles wrote their music and won over fans with their charm, but they couldn’t have reached their level of success without the people who worked with them along the way. Producers, assistants, managers, and former bandmates all helped The Beatles become the biggest band in the world. While they didn’t receive as much recognition as the band, some people who helped lift The Beatles to success have become the subjects of both documentaries and fictional movies. Since being awarded $10.35 million in damages at the end of the trial, Depp has been “focused on work,” an insider close to the actor said.

Jimmy Page didn’t need long to prove he was a guitar solo maestro in Led Zeppelin. The band’s 1969 debut album features some of his best guitar solos, and every record they made included their guitarist playing in the spotlight at least once. He has several classics to his name, but Page’s most underrated solo might be his playing on “The Ocean.”

Abba guitarist Lasse Wellander has died at 70 years old, the musician’s family announced. The Sweden native died on Friday, April 7 after a battle with cancer.
Taking to Wellander’s official Facebook page, his family wrote, “It is with indescribable sadness that we have to announce that our beloved Lasse has fallen asleep. Lasse recently fell ill in what turned out to be spread cancer and early on Good Friday he passed away, surrounded by his loved ones.”
“You were an amazing musician and humble as few, but above all you were a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. Kind, safe, caring and loving… and so much more, that cannot be described in words. A hub in our lives, and it’s unbelievable that we now have to live on without you.”
The post, written by his family members, Lena, Ludvig and Andréas, concluded, “We love and miss you so much.

Led Zeppelin emerged fully formed on their debut album. They won over fans in the United States with their first concerts and made everything sound so effortless, even when they struggled to record songs. Making Led Zeppelin I was the opposite of a struggle, and “You Shook Me” was one of the band’s most unique songs.

Guitarist Jimmy Page lived through a whirlwind in late 1968. He experienced the disintegration of the Yardbirds, the formation of Led Zeppelin, and the recording of the band’s debut album within a few months.
The fiery blimp disaster shown on the cover of the debut carried several meanings: That the band burned with an intense passion for its craft, that it planned to burn musical conventions,...

Jimmy Page formed Led Zeppelin so he could fully flex his creative muscles. The band’s fans would say he did just that during their 12-year career. Still, “Since I’ve Been Loving You” is one of his best Led Zeppelin moments. The five-note lick that starts the song might have been an apology to his friend Jeff Beck. The rest of the song is what makes it one of Page’s best Led Zeppelin songs.

What starts as a slow, steady, and quiet blues number (augmented by Robert Plant’s impassioned singing and John Paul Jones’ warm keyboard) builds up to the solo. Then Page takes over with an expressive and impressive solo that ranks as one of his best.

Jimmy Page with a guitar in his hands comes off as one of the most confident musicians ever. How confident? Enough to quit his lucrative session musician job and finally join the Yardbirds. Still, Page said recording with the Yardbirds was terrifying, and we understand why.
Jimmy Page and the Yardbirds in 1967 | Ivan Keeman/Redferns Jimmy Page got a ‘terrifying’ response while recording with the Yardbirds
Page made a good living as a session guitarist, but the grind wore on him. He initially had creative freedom to play whatever riffs fit the song, but then producers increasingly told him what to play note-for-note. Plus, he was performing more muzak and less music on the job.
So when the Yardbirds came calling a third time, he jumped at the chance to join.
Page and friend (and fellow guitar maestro) Jeff Beck briefly overlapped in the Yardbirds. When Beck quit, his pal...
