2024 marks the 40th anniversary of one of my favorite entries in my favorite franchise: the Friday the 13th sequel Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter – and to mark the occasion, the folks at Gutter Garbs are selling a very cool Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter T-shirt! An image of the shirt can be seen at the bottom of this article, and it’s available for pre-order at This Link. Shirts are expected to ship out around May 5th. They’ll only be selling it for a limited time, so if you want it, get your order in.
Directed by Joseph Zito from a screenplay by Barney Cohen (with Bruce Hidemi Sakow receiving story credit), Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter has the following synopsis: The body count continues in this vivid thriller, the fourth — and final? — story in the widely successful Friday the 13th series. For the last few years, Paramount has been giving the Friday the 13th movies they released in the 1980s 40th anniversary steelbook Blu-ray releases. The original Friday the 13th got its steelbook release in 2020, and you can pick that up Here. Friday the 13th Part 2 got its steelbook release in 2021, and you can buy that one at This Link. Friday the 13th Part III followed its predecessors in 2022, and you can get that steelbook Here. There was no Friday the 13th movie released in 1983, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter didn’t come along until ’84, so I was wondering if Paramount was going to wait an extra year to release a steelbook for that one… and the answer is no. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is getting a steelbook Blu-ray release for its 39th anniversary, and it’s already available for pre-order on Amazon!

Released in 1984, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (watch it Here) has one of the most inaccurate titles ever… which is easy to forgive when the movie also happens to be one of the best slashers ever made. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is also the focus of the latest episode of our video series Real Slashers, which you can watch in the embed above!

Happy Friday the 13th, Campers! It’s time to talk about the high water mark of the Friday the 13th saga, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), the action-packed fourth entry that was decidedly not the final chapter of this twelve-part (so far) series. Reader beware: this review is not devoid of spoilers, though this writer tries to maintain a few surprises for the uninitiated.
After Friday the 13th: Part III (1982) took terror into the third dimension, Final Chapter was able to capitalize on the best elements of its predecessors while smoothing out some of their storytelling hiccups. Final Chapter ports over the basic setup of Friday the 13th: Part II (1981) and Part III: Tormented former New Jersey summer camp attendee Jason Voorhees (Ted White this time around), wreaks belated vengeance on the same camp’s next generation of counselors. In the original Friday the 13th (1980), a surprising different...

As Scream Factory continues to diversify their slate of releases — most recently striking a licensing deal with Warner Bros. at long last, resulting in more John Carpenter titles joining the lineup — one of the exciting parts of the company continues to be their commitment to giving smaller, lesser-known catalogue titles the HD treatment. They’re not always great, but they’re always worth checking out.

March 20th’s horror and sci-fi home media releases are an eclectic bunch, Shout Select’s Collector’s Edition of The ’Burbs and the new Blu-ray of Michele Soavi's The Church leading the pack. YouTube videos have received tens of billions of views, and many of them offer specific recommendations. In some cases, beauty vloggers also tell their fans what not to buy, and that format is becoming more popular. The Online has published an in-depth look at the trend of “anti-haul” videos, in which creators look to inform viewers about cosmetic products they see as overpriced.
The Outline traces anti-hauls back to beauty vlogger Kimberly Clark, who since 2015 has released a series of videos that are meant to combat the “virulent consumerism” inherent in the haul format that is so popular on YouTube. “I love watching haul video, I love doing hauls, I love shopping,” said Clark in the original anti-haul video, “but, you know, I don't need to do this, I don't need to be buying this stuff and neither do you.”

Jason Voorhees lost his head, but got a stay of execution in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.
Friday the 13th has been considered unlucky since October 1307 when King Philip IV of France ordered the executions of all of the Knights Templars because God was “not pleased.” It was a bloody beginning to a long tradition.
But not every Friday the Thirteenth is unfortunate, no matter how much blood gets spilled. For example, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter was very lucky.

Cinema’s Hidden Pearls – Part II
By Alex Simon
One of nature’s rarest items, a pearl is produced within the soft tissue (specifically the mantle) of a living shelled mollusk. Just like the shell of a clam, a pearl is composed of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form, which has been deposited in concentric layers. Truly flawless pearls are infrequently produced in nature, and as a result, the pearl has become a metaphor for something rare, fine, admirable and valuable.
Hidden pearls exist in the world of movies, as well: films that, in spite of being brilliantly crafted and executed, never got the audience they deserved beyond a cult following.
Here are a few more of our favorite hidden pearls in the world of film:

The "Friday the 13th" franchise's crop of Final Girls are known for their keen survival instincts onscreen, but the careers of the actresses who played them? Not quite as impressive. When was the last time you heard the name "Amy Steel"? Dana Kimmell? Melanie Kinnaman? In celebration of Friday the 13th, here's our brief rundown of the post-"F13" careers of every Final Girl in the (original) franchise, from Adrienne King to Lexa Doig. "Friday the 13th" (1980) Adrienne King (Alice Hardy) After briefly reprising her role in the film's 1981 sequel, King became the victim of a stalker (the man ultimately pulled a gun on her). Shaken by the experience, she didn't return to acting until the 2010 low-budget horror/sci-fi film "Psychic Experiment." "Friday the 13th Part 2" (1981) Amy Steel (Ginny) Steel actually has two claims to fame in the horror genre, as she also starred in the 1986 pseudo-slasher "April Fool's Day.

A birthday snuck by us! Yesterday - April 13th - Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (the fourth film in the long-running slasher series) celebrated its 30th anniversary. Hailed by many as the best installment in the franchise, the film was directed by Joseph Zito, starred Corey Feldman, Crispin Glover and Kimberly Beck and introduced horror fans to Tommy Jarvis, a character who would resurface a few times in the series. To celebrate this birthday, let's reflect with some videos. Does The Final Chapter rank as your favorite in the series?

Last year we ran a schedule of every TV/Cable network schedule we could find that could be construed as Horror or Halloween related for the month of October. Let’s just say it proved useful for our readers and even for our staff when they were looking to find something to watch, wanted to program their DVR’s or didn’t want to miss out on some great “live” Horror. Isn’t there something about having a movie fed to you on TV as opposed to watching it on Blu-ray or DVD or streaming? We may not like commercials, but the randomness that you can associate with a TV program itinerary is novel. It removes a little bit of control from the audience who is all to concerned with being in control these days (just look at the reasons behind publishing a piece like this).

Fright Rags recently announced that they would be releasing a limited edition Friday the 13th screenprint, with 60% of the proceeds going to support charities that help victims of domestic violence. The poster is signed by Adrienne King, Amy Steel, Dana Kimmel, and Kimberly Beck, and is now available.
“In the vast majority of horror movies, it comes down to the final girl who must face her darkest hour, and call upon her inner strength to vanquish the killer. Perhaps no film franchise is more popular in using this plot device than the Friday the 13th films.
Of course, when the credits roll we are reminded that we are in the comfort of our own homes and the violence we just witnessed was staged and designed for film. In the real world however, there is needless abuse occurring every day. In the Us alone, a woman is assaulted or battered Every 9 Seconds.

The genre T-shirt company Fright Rags has been producing unique pop culture apparel since 2003. Their horror-themed tees, with dynamic illustrations often punctuated with iconic catch phrases, have become essential accessories in the horror community.
If you’ve attended a major genre convention in the past few years, you’ve seen their products worn proudly by fans and film royalty alike. From iconic movie favorites (like A Nightmare on Elm Street) to the more wonderfully obscure (such as the '70s TV movie Killdozer), Fright Rags caters to a wide range of fandom flavors. More recently, they have ventured into the collectible poster arena, the next logical step for a company that often celebrates the distinctive artwork of classic one-sheets.

Kimberly Clark has launched a new integrated campaign tying together its two brands Huggies Nappies and Huggies Baby Wipes.
The campaign suggests to mums that as their baby’s nappy is the one constant in the child’s day, by using both products together they give the baby greater comfort. The work is the first example of the new Kimberley Clark “integrated marketing process” developed in conjunction with media agency Mindshare, both globally and at a local level. Joanna McCarthy, Kca corporate communications manager told Mumbrella: “It’s not just about the advertising idea. We’re changing the process in collaboration with our agencies Ogilvy and Mindshare.”
The campaign also extends across print, with ads in New Idea, Woman’s Day and major parenting magazines, online display ads on parenting websites, in store activations as well as further promotion on the Huggies Facebook page, and a presence on Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest.

With 2,715 pounds of dynamite Sunday, 40-year-old Texas Stadium -- the one with the hole in its roof, “so God can watch his favorite team play” -- was reduced to 2 million pounds of steel scrap and 4 million pounds of (recyclable) concrete rubble. Thousands of die-hard Dallas Cowboys fans and former players showed up to tailgate once last time and cheer the early morning implosion.
One entity that isn’t sad to see it go is its host city of Irving, Texas, which lost the new $1.3 billion Cowboys Stadium (the one with the high-def screen the size of a city block, so owner Jerry Jones can watch his team play) to nearby Arlington. A decade after sports economists such as Smith College’s Andrew Zimbalist debunked the notion that stadium investments drive economic development, Irving is earning more from leasing the site to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) than it ever did from the Cowboys.

For many genre fans, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter was the ultimate sequel of the entire series. The Final Chapter was chock-full of great deaths and brought together a stellar ensemble cast including the now notable Crispin Glover and Corey Feldman and re-energized the franchise with a trip inside the mind of our favorite machete-wielding madman.
However, at the center of all that magic you have actress Kimberly Beck who portrayed the older sister, Trish Jarvis, to Feldman’s character Tommy. Trish was literally “the girl next door” as she came to realize one fateful night that at a neighboring rental home, Jason Voorhees was laying waste to a group of promiscuous teenagers who should have known better than to pick Camp Crystal Lake as a vacation spot.

Caroline Williams made her mark in the horror genre very early in her career. Her first notable role came in 1985 with a small part in The Legend of Billie Jean. The very next year Williams took on Leatherface and the whole crazy Sawyer family in Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, which would forever endear her to the horror masses with her portrayal of final girl Venita “Stretch” Brock.
Just a few years later, Williams stepped back into the horror genre as Matty Crimmins in The Stepfather 2 and reprised her role as Stretch for a brief cameo in TCM 3. In 1995 Williams braved the evilest little dude in horror not named Chucky when she appeared in Leprechaun 3 as Loretta, a greedy casino worker who gets more than she bargained for.

Chicago – The reboot of “Friday the 13th” was another financially successful notch in the belt of Platinum Dunes, the film company behind the remakes of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “The Hitcher,” and “The Amityville Horror”. Making $90 million worldwide and more domestically than any previous Jason Voorhees movie (that didn’t include Freddy Krueger), “Friday the 13th” has a following that will be ecstatic with the excellent Blu-Ray release for the slasher title.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0 The Blu-Ray of “Friday the 13th” delivers everything fans could ask for. Not only do they present a longer and better cut of the film in the 9-minutes-longer “Extended Cut,” but the special features enhance the “Friday the 13th” experience and the technical transfer is nearly flawless.
Friday the 13th was released on Blu-Ray on June 16th, 2009.

During the finale of Friday The 13th Part III, we catch a few glimpses of Jason’s face. The bastard flashes a twisted smile not once, but twice at the woman he’s hoping to murder. In The Final Chapter (buy it on DVD here), Jason is again unmasked by the Final Girl—and she too is given a freakish grin to haunt her dreams. My question: Does this Jason always smile when he kills, or only when he’s face-to-unmasked face with his prey? Chew on that the next time you watch this ballbuster, rightfully hailed by many as the most entertaining and satisfying in the Friday series.
Tom Savini returns to lay waste to his most famous creation, with tastefully restrained FX that pack enough of a wallop to warrant hoots and cheers. Jason is played by Ted White, a stunt-gent who used to double for John Wayne,...
