What's the project? "MerryGoRound" is an original musical by the composers of "Mary Poppins," Richard and Robert Sherman. The book, by Paul Butler and Fred Fox Jr., is based on an original idea by Andrew Belling, who will also direct. Bob Mackie will create the costumes, and Larry Sousa will choreograph. It's headed for a June-July opening on Broadway. What's it about? "MerryGoRound" tells the story of a young man who, believing his existence is meaningless, attempts to hang himself. At that moment, his estranged father saves him and persuades him to travel back in time on a magical merry-go-round to rediscover who he really is and how precious and wonderful life is. What else makes it noteworthy? The staging will include illusions and 3-D computer-generated imaging and projections. Live-action video projections will replace standard backdrops; the video screens will not be visible. Several actors will have animated counterparts with whom they sing and dance.
