Sarah Michelle Gellar had to unlearn what she believed to be the norm in Hollywood.
The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” alum recalled having it “ingrained” in her that all sets were “extremely toxic” early in her career. While Gellar did not name “Buffy” or its controversial showrunner Joss Whedon, Gellar described the misogynistic and manipulative behavior she endured on an unnamed, long-running project.
“For so long, I was on a set that I think was known for being an extremely toxic male set,” Gellar said during TheWrap’s Power of Women Summit panel for Power of Storytelling: Producers Roundtable. “And so that was ingrained in my head that that was what all sets were like, and that women were pitted against each other — that if women became friends, then we became too powerful, so you had to keep that down.”
Gellar continued, “Now that I’ve had this opportunity to...

“Firefly” alum Nathan Fillion hopes to collaborate with Joss Whedon again soon.
The “Castle” star detailed his long-running partnership with Whedon, from episodes of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” to “Much Ado About Nothing,” calling Whedon a “funny, self-deprecating, incredibly talented” showrunner who is “maybe a little haunted.”
Multiple toxic workplace and sexual misconduct allegations against Whedon were revisited in a January 2022 Vulture interview with the director.
“I read that article, and nowhere in there at any point in time did he mention ‘Firefly,'” Fillion said during the “Inside of You” podcast (via Variety). “I had an entirely…that was not my experience with that man.”
Fillion continued, “I mean, listen by his own admission, that guy’s a work-in-progress, and I appreciate that. I would work with Joss again in a second. I would work with him again in a second.”

Nathan Fillion is sticking up for his frequent collaborator Joss Whedon, revealing on the “Inside of You” podcast that he would “would work with Joss again in a second.” Fillion had main roles in Whedon’s “Firefly,” “Much Ado About Nothing” and “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog,” plus appeared in several episodes of Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Whedon has been accused of misconduct and toxic workplace behavior by several actors, including “Buffy” star Charisma Carpenter and “Justice League” actor Ray Fisher. Gal Gadot also accused Whedon of threatening her career.
Whedon was the subject of New York Magazine profile that was published in January and detailed the many allegations against him. The writer-director denied insulting Gadot while making “Justice League,” saying, “I don’t threaten people. Who does that? English is not her first language, and I tend to be annoyingly flowery in my speech.”

Recent headline-making allegations against Joss Whedon are getting another look in a new book about the making of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
In Evan Ross Katz’s “Into Every Generation a Slayer Is Born: How ‘Buffy’ Staked Our Hearts,” just published by Hachette Books to coincide with the series’ 25th anniversary, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” cast and crew members spoke out about working with showrunner Joss Whedon, who has since faced toxic workplace allegations.
While Whedon has maintained that he was “never physical” with actresses or crew members, “Buffy” alums Charisma Carpenter, Danny Strong, Emma Caulfield, and costume designer Cynthia Bergstrom addressed the numerous allegations against the writer-director in Katz’s book.
“Joss always talked to me about how the show was about a young girl becoming an empowered woman and how — and this is what really gets me — how he didn’t want to see the pretty blonde victimized,...
