The Young Adult fiction category is proving to be something of a mixed bag for studios. While Twilight and The Hunger Games have been huge hits, there are still those, such as the recent Beautiful Creatures, which just don’t seem to strike a chord. That doesn’t seem to be stopping anyone, with news that The Rite director Mikael Hafstrom will direct an adaptation of Tunnels.Written by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams, Tunnels is set beneath the streets of London where two teenage boys discover a previously hidden world and a civilization dwelling there that is in need of a saviour. Why a saviour, you ask? Because there’s naturally a seething, hideous evil force lurking there, just waiting for the chance to destroy both the world below and our own. If you ask us, it sounds a little bit like any of the recent magical Ya books...

You have to wonder about the career advice Sarah Michelle Gellar has been receiving from her agent. Once she established that she could not only kick ass and stake vampires on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she also won over fans and critics by feeling the emotional impact of the events going on in her life. One reason the episode regarding her mother’s death is so well remembered has much to do with Gellar’s performance. We also saw that she could do other roles and gained attention in 1999 with Cruel Intentions.
Yet, since the series ended in 2003, she has made schlock horror films based on international offerings (The Grudge), slight comedies (Scooby Doo), and eminently forgettable films (Suburban Girl). In the fist category comes Possession, out this week from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. Based on the 2002 Korean film Addicgion, the American adaptation was filmed in 2007 and was initially...

A Sci-fi thriller called Splice has been snapped up by Warner Bros for release on June 4 this year.
Written and directed by Vincenzo Natali, it explores the morality of genetic experimentation and stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley as scientists who create a new life-form, with disastrous consequences.
It's produced by Guillermo del Toro, who directed Cronos, Mimic and Pan's Labyrinth and is making The Hobbit two-part adaptation.
Splice elicited an excellent response at this year's Sundance Film Festival but, judging from user reviews on Internet Movie Database, it has also come in for some savage criticism from horror fans who saw it at other film events. A movie that obviously isn't for everyone. We'll know for sure if it has wide mainstream appeal later this year.
The synopsis is: "Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists, defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing...

If I remember correctly, Joel Bergvall and Simon Sandquist’s 2008 supernatural thriller “Possession” was supposed to appear on North American DVD sometime last year. For whatever reason, the film vanished into the vapor, never to be seen again. For those of you who have been sitting tensely on pins and needles since experiencing the first trailer nearly two years ago, the knowledge that “Possession”, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Lee Pace, will joyously invade your living rooms on March 9th should be comforting. Will it be worth the wait? Judging from the trailer embedded below, I wouldn’t hold my breath. Anyone who has bore witness to “The Return” knows just how boring Gellar can be. You know it’s true, fanboy. Sorry to burst your bubble. Here’s the setup: Newlyweds Jess (Gellar) and Ryan (Landes) seem to have it all until a car accident renders both Ryan and his brother Roman (Pace) comatose.

Well that's weird. Sarah Michelle Gellar, better known to horror fans as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is returning to horror once again. Why is this weird? Her latest thriller, titled Possession, was set to hit DVD and Blu-ray shelves May 12th, 2009. That date has come and way gone. However, now we've got a new release date . . .
Seems us Gellar fans can expect Possession to be released on March, 9th, 2010. Still, Sarah Michelle isn't one who's flicks go straight to video so what gives? Why the set back?
