Netflix has unveiled its 2023 feature film slate, consisting of 49 titles.
The streamer’s feature slate has slimmed down significantly from 2022, when 86 films were announced. Those titles are Dev Patel’s feature directorial debut Monkey Man, Jennifer Lopez actioner The Mother, George C. Wolfe’s civil rights drama Rustin, John Ridley’s Shirley, the Adam Sandler vehicle Spaceman, the Jamie Foxx-starring They Cloned Tyrone, the starry comedy We Have a Ghost, Kenya Barris’ first feature You People and South Korea’s Jung_E.

Netflix has dropped the full trailer for You People, its upcoming Kenya Barris comedy starring and co-written by Jonah Hill.
The three-minute teaser for Barris’ directorial debut delivers a fuller look at Hill’s character, Ezra Cohen, and his effort to find love, and more specifically, woo Lauren London’s Amira Mohammed in Los Angeles. At the top of the trailer, Ezra reveals to his friend (played by Sam Jay) his desperation to find partnership amid feeling “alone, on a building, dangling my legs off wondering what it’s like to feel companionship.”
“I don’t think I’ve heard of a man ever who wanted to be in a relationship so badly besides Drake,” says Jay.
Enter Amira, who — following an airport rideshare mix-up in which Ezra mistakes her for his actual Uber driver — causes Hill’s character to reveal that he’s “never felt so understood by somebody in my entire life.

Ultimately, the trio embarks on a road trip into a desolate American West, and while on this journey, Finch looks to show his creation — who has named himself Jeff — the joy and wonder that come with being alive.

In “Finch,” a man, a robot and a dog form an unlikely family, with Tom Hanks starring as a robotics engineer who has survived a cataclysmic solar event and global apocalypse inside an underground bunker and is now on a quest to ensure that his dog will be cared for after he’s gone. He creates a robot named Jeff (voiced by Caleb Landry Jones) to watch over his dog when he no longer can, and the three together embark on a...

Amazon Prime has finalized acquisition of worldwide rights to “Coming 2 America,” the long awaited sequel to the 1988 comedy classic starring Eddie Murphy, and will release it to subscribers globally on March 5, 2021, the company announced Friday.
Paramount originally slated the movie for a Dec. 22 opening in theaters. But after the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted the year’s theatrical release schedule, the studio began talks in October to sell “Coming 2 America” to Amazon in a deal worth around $125 million.
The sequel, which reunites Murphy with his “Dolemite Is My Name” director Craig Brewer, is set 30 years after the original as Murphy’s Prince Akeem prepares to ascend to the throne of the fictional African nation of Zamunda — only to discover that he has a long-lost son named Lavelle who lives in Queens.
To respect his father’s dying wish, he returns to America to find Lavelle and groom him as the new crown prince.

The wait is almost over, “Psych” fans. Among the many offerings that will be available when NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, Peacock, launches nationwide Wednesday is “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home,” the long-awaited sequel to “Psych: The Movie.”
Now, seeing as it’s been a while since the first “Psych” film debuted on USA Network in December 2017 — and even longer since the detective dramedy series ended its eight season run in 2014 — we’re willing to bet that even the most die-hard fans don’t remember exactly where we left things with Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill). Psych: The Movie, when it was released in 2017, was clearly a love letter for the avid Psych-Os missing fake psychic Shawn Spencer (James Roday), his platonic life partner Burton Guster (Dulé Hill), and the rest of the Santa Barbara Police Department after the series wrapped in 2014. From a David Bowie-loving villain to a #TeamGrimmie T-shirt, it was the best kind of fan service. Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, then, is undoubtedly a love letter from the cast and crew of Psych to one of their own: actor Timothy Omundson and his grouchy yet heroic alter ego, detective Carlton Lassiter, both undergoing recovery for a stroke. Psych 2, which premieres July 15 on Peacock, is a surprisingly poignant example of art imitating life while still ushering a crew of beloved characters through personal and professional life changes.

The final moments of 2017’s Psych: The Movie are literally explosive: Professional fake psychic Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and partner-in-crime-solving Burton Guster (Dulé Hill) watch their newly-christened San Francisco-based practice go up in laser-sniper-fire from whoever’s hot on the trail of Shawn’s brother-in-law Ewan O’Hara (John Cena). It might have seemed an obvious setup for an eventual second Psych movie, with the titular duo following in the wake of Ewan’s ex-Black-Ops adventures, but instead creator Steve Franks and Roday (who shares a co-writing credit on both movies) went for a quieter and more emotionally resonant angle in their followup.

Universal Pictures said on Friday that the studio has pushed the release of its heartfelt Tom Hanks-led sci-fi film “Bios” to April 2021.
The film was initially set to hit theaters on Oct. 2, 2020 but will now premiere on April 16, 2021. The news comes after Warner Bros. shifted a major portion of its future slate, including moving “Wonder Woman 1984” to Oct. 2, 2020, from its August release date.
“Bios” tells the story of a man, a robot and a dog who form an unlikely family. Hanks stars as Finch, a robotics engineer and one of the few survivors of a cataclysmic solar event that has left the world a wasteland. Psych 2: Lassie Come Home is building out its cast. Allison Miller will join her A Million Little Things co-star James Roday, along with Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), Kadeem Hardison (A Different World) and Richard Schiff (The West Wing) in the movie set to air later this year on Peacock, NBCU’s upcoming streaming service.
The film, which is named after Tim Omundson’s Santa Barbara Police Chief Carlton Lassiter, will explore the marriage between Shawn, played by Roday, and Maggie Lawson’s Juliet after the pair’s nupitals at the end of the first movie.
Written, directed and executive produced by Psych creator Steve Franks, Psych 2: Lassie Come Home focuses on Lassiter, who is ambushed on the job and left for dead. In a vintage Psych-style Hitchcockian nod, he begins to see impossible happenings around his recovery clinic. Shawn and Dulé Hill’s Gus return to Lassie’s side...

Psych fans will have to wait a little longer for the second movie sequel. Originally slated to premiere in 2019, the film will not debut until at least spring 2020. That is because the movie is moving from USA Network, home of the original Psych series and Psych: The Movie, to Peacock, NBCU’s upcoming streaming service, which launches in April 2020.
The sequel, fka Psych: The Movie 2, has been given a cheeky new title, Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, named after one of the show’s main characters, Santa Barbara Police Chief Carlton Lassiter, played by Tim Omundson.
Moving the film from a linear cable network to a streaming platform makes sense. Movies are one of the hardest business proposition for an ad-supported linear network because they are expensive, difficult to justify a major promotional push because they are one-offs, and they have very limited shelf life. Meanwhile, original movies have been thriving on streaming platforms,...

Clint Eastwood is headed back to his longtime home Warner Bros, which has picked up the director’s The Ballad Of Richard Jewell, the project that had been set up at Disney-Fox and that Deadline told you last month Eastwood was helming next.
The film is being produced by Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson, who along with Eastwood have a deal at WB, making this shift in studios confirmed Friday less than a shocker. Jonah Hill and Kevin Misher are also producing along with Malipaso’s Eastwood, Tim Moore and Jessica Meier, and Misher Films’ Andy Berman.
Eastwood, who last directed Warners’ The Mule, will start shooting next month.
Hill was at one time attached to play Jewell, the security guard whose life was turned upside down after it was leaked by law enforcement to a reporter that he was a possible suspect in the Olympic Park bombing during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Exclusive: Clint Eastwood is circling to next direct The Ballad Of Richard Jewell, and has been in discussions with Disney/Fox drama based on the life of a security guard whose life was turned upside down in a moment after it was leaked by law enforcement to a reporter that Jewell was a possible suspect in the Olympic Park bombing during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. From the moment he was outed by an article written by an overzealous reporter at the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Jewell went from hero to one of the most hated men in America.
The script is by Billy Ray (Captain Phillips). Eastwood flirted with the project once before.
Jewell discovered a suspicious backpack in the Olympics compound, cleared the area and saved lives that day, but after he was falsely accused he became a pariah. The project, based on the Vanity Fair article The Ballad Of Richard Jewell...

Psych: The Movie 2 is taking shape with the teasing of two guest stars.
Series vet Timothy Omundson — who for the sequel will fully reprise his role as Police Chief Lassiter (after sitting out nearly all of the first TV-movie as the actor recovered from a stroke) — teased on Twitter that (a barely obscured) Joel McHale will be a “very special guest star” for the follow-up.
Westworld‘s Jimmi Simpson meanwhile tweeted out a video in which he steps off a Psych-branded longboard (covet!) to suggest that he will put in another encore, having played the Mr. Yang-obsessed, dearly departed police psychologist Dr.
