Because I’m a giant film geek, I absolutely adore those “what if X directed Y” video mashups. Perhaps my all-time favorites are Patrick (H) Willem’s What If Wes Anderson Directed X-Men and What If Ingmar Bergman Directed The Flash. Now, it looks like we have two new challengers: “Jack and Justin” aka Justin Nijm and Jack Bishop, who you might be familiar with from their online comedy shorts – particularly, Dennis Quaid’s On-Set Freak-Out, which was featured on Jimmy Kimmel.
Recently, they served up a cool-as-hell imagining of what a David Fincher-directed Halloween might look like. Clearly, the pair know their Fincher, as they’ve gone to impressive lengths to emulate the aesthetics and atmosphere of one of his movies, complete with a stabilized camera and color correction. On top of all that, they’ve used Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ remix of the Halloween theme, which...

Filmmakers always sound fascinating during their commentary tracks or “making of” featurettes. They have lofty ambitions for their movies and its always disappointing when the story they talk about proves more interesting than the finish film itself.
Such is the case with the thriller Not Forgotten, out this week on DVD from our pals at Anchor Bay Entertainment. Written by Tomás Romero and Dror Soref and directed by Soref, its atmospheric and has tremendous potential but remains largely uninvolving and winds up far more predictable than it should be.
Starring Simon Baker, the DVD release is playing up his name now that he is a major star thanks to the success of his CBS series The Mentalist. When the film was released very briefly in January, he was just another actor with Paz Vega and Claire Forlani the better recognized names.

Despite minor genre trappings sprinkled throughout both, neither Whiteout (opening nationwide September 11) nor Not Forgotten (beginning a New York City engagement on the 11th ahead of a DVD release November 3) is really a horror film. That hasn’t stopped Warner Bros. from trying to sell Whiteout like one, though what they’re pitching as a literal chiller about a malevolent presence terrorizing an South Pole research station turns out to be a mystery/suspense drama without mystery, suspense or drama.
Kate Beckinsale trades in her Underworld leather garb for a parka to play U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko, who’s about to wrap up a stint on Antarctica (which the film helpfully reminds us is “the coldest, most isolated land mass on the planet”). A gruesome little clip from Anchor Bay's upcoming thriller, Not Forgotten popped up on YouTube today that displays one of Simon Baker's little known talents -- he really knows how to make a point with a broken bottle.
The film, directed by Dror Soref, who co-wrote the script with Tomas Romero, and will be distributed in the Us, UK, and Australia by Anchor Bay Films, the new feature film division of Anchor Bay Entertainment.
Not Forgotten tells the story of Jack Bishop (Baker), a man with a secret past that is revealed when his daughter is kidnapped. To find her, he enlists the help of the cult La Santa Muerte and returns to his roots in the squalid, seedy barrios of Mexico. La Santa Muerte is a centuries-old mixture of Catholicism and paganism in which devotees pray to the saint known as The Holy Death for revenge and other acts against their enemies.

Here’s your first look at a new thriller starring Simon Baker (TV’s The Mentalist) and Paz Vega (”10 Items or Less”) called “Not Forgotten”. It looks like a very tight suspense thriller, and somehow the Mexican cartels get involved. That’s never a good thing, in case you were wondering. The film is directed by Dror Soref, most known for his Weird Al Yankovic music videos. I kid you not. Check out a trailer, posters, and images from the movie below. Jack Bishop lives the life of every man’s dream with a beautiful wife and a happy, healthy daughter, Toby. He has the career he always wanted and a loving home in a peaceful Texas border town. But it is no coincidence that Jack’s life seems perfect. His past hides a black secret, one he hides from his family, one he hides from himself. When Toby goes missing,...

Not Forgotten premiered at Slamdance and was quickly picked up by Anchor Bay. It's about black magic mixed with Catholicism and a man with a past to hide, and while theirs been a few crappy clips on youtube this whole time, we didn't post news. Instead we waited for the trailer which is finally here.
