Bloody Disgusting has learned the sad news tonight that prolific horror filmmaker Jeff Burr, who notably directed Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, has passed away.
Jeff Burr was just 60 years old.
Prior to making his mark on the Chainsaw franchise with the fan favorite third installment, Jeff Burr directed 1987’s Vincent Price-starring From a Whisper to a Scream and 1989’s Stepfather II: Make Room for Daddy. He later directed 1993 sequel Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings.
Jeff Burr’s directorial credits also include 1990s horror movies Puppet Master 4, Puppet Master 5, and Night of the Scarecrow, as well as The Werewolf Reborn!, Phantom Town, The Boy With the X-Ray Eyes, Straight into Darkness, Devil’s Den, Resurrection, Gun of the Black Sun, Tornado Warning, and in more recent years, Puppet Master: Blitzkrieg Massacre.
Friend/writer Shane Bitterling writes on Twitter tonight, “Just got an awful phone call. One I’ve had far too many of recently.

Danny Draven, who some genre fans will know as the director of Hell Asylum, Deathbed and other low budget fare, is back behind the camera for Ghost Asylum – a cheap (and audience-screwing) retitling of his 2012 film Reel Evil, which has already been released by 88 Films under its original title in 2014! The cast are fairly unknown so I won’t delve into their history in film here, it doesn’t need to be spoken about for this review to make sense.
Ghost Asylum is a found footage style horror movie, along the lines of Blair Witch and such, but sadly it doesn’t have the curiosity and originality of some found footage films, and instead follows cliques and falls flat in many areas throughout its short 78 minute running time.
The story follows some struggling film-makers,...

Puppet Master X: Axis Rising (2012)
Directed By: Charles Band
Written By: Charles Band & Shane Bitterling
Starring: Kip Canyon (Danny), Jean Louise O’Sullivan (Beth), Oto Benzina (Freuhoffer), Scott King (Moebius), Brad Potts (Seargent Stone), Kurt Sinclair (Major Collins), Stephanie Sanditz (Uschi), Paul Thomas Arnold (General Porter), Terumi Shimazu (Ozu)
Nothing says “Full Moon” like the “Puppet Master” franchise. I am always surprised they come out with a new film and we are already up to the tenth entry! I have had mixed feelings about this franchise and this movie is no different. While it is better than the ninth installment, it is lacking the magic the first films had. Charles Band returns to write and direct this entry.
The movie continues where the previous movie left off. Danny and Beth have discovered that the Nazis have Tunneler and want to extract the serum from him to create super soldiers.

With the Full Moon feature Reel Evil releasing tomorrow, December 4th, on DVD and VOD, we caught up with director Danny Draven and writer Shane Bitterling to chat about their found footage film, which is an interesting detour from the fare producer Charles Band has become known for.
Written by Bitterling, Reel Evil follows (according to the film’s synopsis) “struggling filmmakers Kennedy, Cory and James, who finally catch the break they are looking for when they are hired to shoot a behind-the-scenes documentary for a major studio production. But their dream job quickly turns into a nightmare when they explore the legendary haunted location and find something far worse than anything Hollywood could create. Terror becomes reality for the filmmakers as they uncover the malevolent secrets of the hospital and the sinister doctor who once ran it.” Rounding out the cast are Jessica Morris, Kaiwi Lyman, Jim Tavaré, Kyle Morris and Jamie Bernadette,...

*mild Spoiler Alert. **full disclosure: an advanced online screener was supplied by Full Moon Features. Director: Charles Band. Writers: Charles Band and Shane Bitterling. Cast: Paul Thomas Arnold, Oto Brezina and Kip Canyon. The Puppet Master series has evolved to become a product totally different from its first few films. Instead of the murderous dolls that many fans loved, they are still humanity’s saviors in Puppet Master X: Axis Rising. The devotees who have followed the series should know that the sequence of movies is not in chronological order. They are not yet the 80's terrorists that they will become. Back in time, they were fighting for an American cause. In the latest two movies, the era is still the 40's. This new subset of “Axis” films makes Danny Coogin (Kip Canyon) the new Puppet Master. He found the puppets that Toulin left following his suicide. Where this new...

Regency Enterprises has hunted down Justin Stanley and Shane Bitterling's spec script Witchfinders for Oscar-winning producers Arnold and Anne Kopelson to produce through their Kopelson Entertainment. Witchfinders is described as a possible tentpole action-adventure project in the vein of Pirates of the Caribbean with witches.
