Scottish novelist, playwright and screenwriter, educated at Daniel Stewart's College in Edinburgh and Manchester University. Began as an actor with
Donald Wolfit's theatrical company, then worked as script editor for the Rank Scenario Department from 1946. Came to prominence during the next two decades as co-creator of such popular television shows as
Danger Man (1960),
Sir Francis Drake (1961) and
Patrol Car (1954).
