Netflix clearly is determined to play the major-studio game of big, star-driven action franchises. Extraction, its current sequel, another Russo Brothers’ franchise The Gray Man (with the promise of more), Red Notice and many others represent big-screen-type entertainment designed ultimately for people to watch on their couches at home.
This kind of stuff, while skillfully and expensively executed, still works best at Imax rather than your living room, but the streamer is convinced that it will goose subscriptions, so expect more of movies like Heart of Stone, a convoluted spy thriller loaded with James Bond-style action set pieces but with a wonder woman in the name of Gal Gadot in the center of it all. Taking a cue from Charlize Theron’s Netflix franchise The Old Guard, this is a female-driven enterprise where the men, namely Jamie Dornan’s complicated bad guy, take a back seat for the most part.

Actor Michael Fassbender impressed both fans and critics alike with his portrayal of the classic X-Men character Magneto.
But Fassbender quipped that his role as Magneto was just used to clinch another iconic cinematic character in James Bond.

Fassbender didn’t specifically audition for his role in X-Men: First Class. The reboot was directed by Matthew Vaughn, and saw Fassbender portray a younger version of Ian McKellen’s Magneto. But he acquired the part while pursuing another gig.
“Director saw me in an audition for one of his other films and just thought that I would be right for this. So I spoke to him and he sent over the script, all top secret – somebody comes with it, waits, you read it in a couple of hours or however long it...

James Bond 25 will arrive in November 2019. Eon Productions still has much to consider...
This feature contains spoilers for Spectre.
It was announced this week that James Bond Will Return in November 2019, for the 25th movie in the series. After the box office reception and subsequent backlash against the previous film, 2015's Spectre, there has been much speculation about the next film taking on a radically different approach, from casting to storytelling.
The signs strongly point towards Daniel Craig reprising his role for a fifth time, according to a report in the Mirror earlier this month and a recent confirmation in the New York Times that his return was “a done deal”. Despite Craig's much repeated quote about slashing his wrists rather than returning, which the actor has since put down to being overtired by the junket schedule, it certainly looks like he's coming back for one last go.

There's been a lot of James Bond talk recently with Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig leaving the franchise and rumors of Tom Hiddleston and Jamie Bell being in talks to take on the role of 007.
I have no idea if we will ever see a female James Bond in the franchise, but if it ever happens Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke wants in on the action. During an interview with Daily Star, the actress threw her name into the mix saying:
"I would love to play Jane Bond. My ultimate leading man would be Leonardo DiCaprio. No doubt about it.”
She's not the only actress who has expressed interest in taking on the role of 007. The X-Files' Gillian Anderson is game to take on the role as well, as is Quantico star Priyanka Chopra.
This poses an interesting question... do you think we will ever see a female Bond?...

The online mocked-up poster of Gillian Anderson as “Jane Bond” is lighthearted but I hope no actress is ever offered the role of 007 (Report, 25 May). Any film adaption of a book takes liberties – all the James Bond actors have played the character in different ways – but one thing remains the same: Bond is a male, heterosexual spy. A loner with a Scottish background. He wears tuxedos, not dresses, and has a passion for women, not men. Call that sexist if you want, but that’s the way it is. Ian Fleming would have sued any film company that dared make his 007 female. Will we see a Bridget Jones film in which she becomes Barry Jones? Or see Disney remake Sleeping Beauty into Sleeping Handsome? There’s being liberal and there’s being ridiculous.

Watch out Tom Hiddleston and Idris Elba, there's a new actor interested in the role of 007 – and she's no damsel in distress.
Quantico star Priyanka Chopra was asked about playing a future Bond girl in an interview with Complex for the magazine's latest cover story. "I get that all the time," she said. "But f--- that – I wanna be Bond."
Fans are already starting to throw their support behind a handful of actors, including Hiddleston and Elba, to pick up Daniel Craig's mantle – but recently, the idea of giving the part to a woman has been catching steam on social media.

As she made clear via Twitter over the weekend, Gillian Anderson -- currently starring as Blanche in a Brooklyn stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire -- is flattered that you think she would make a good James Bond. That said, she knows the chances of her ever being cast are slim to none. First, here's the tweet from Anderson that got all the attention: It's Bond. Jane Bond. Thanks for all the votes! Never mind that Daniel Craig is not actually done as James Bond, not yet anyway. Fans are having too much fun promoting their favorite replacements at the hashtag #NextBond -- from Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, and Michael Fassbender to Emily Blunt, Hayley Atwell, and Gillian Anderson.

It’s more than likely that we’ll be getting a new James Bond in the near future. Daniel Craig said he’d rather slit his wrists than make another one, and has apparently refused the offer to return, which begs the question - who will be the next James Bond? Fan favorite names like Tom Hiddleston and Idris Elba have been thrown around, but as of now the future of Bond is a little unclear. Though we still don't have official confirmation that Daniel Craig is done with Bond, that's what is now widely being reported. Following the rumor, fans took to Twitter with the #NextBond hashtag to show their support for the actor they believe would be the best possible replacement. The usual suspects such as Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston obviously got a lot of love, but there were also actresses like Emily Blunt and Gillian Anderson in the mix. The latter got in on the action by posting a fan-made image of herself as James Jane Bond, which you can see below. It's Bond. Jane Bond. Thanks for all the votes! THR reports Jennifer Lawrence, who now officially has a knack for playing real-life women, will next take a turn as Fidel Castro's real-life former lover and almost femme fatale, Marita Lorenz. The role will probably earn Jane Bond comparisons for J.Law and Sony as part of the aptly titled biopic Marita, which reportedly focuses on how a 19-year-old Lorenz met and became romantically involved with the Cuban leader, before later helping the CIA with his covert assassination attempt. The true spy story was pitched by writer Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle) and will be produced by Lawrence, Matt Tolmach, Scott Mednick, and André Rouleau. (Curious about Marita, by the way? Cool, she's written not one, but two autobiographies about this very story.) Pixar's new film, Brave, finally features a female lead. With the likes of Twilight and The Hunger Games also doing big box office, is Hollywood starting to wake up to what audiences want?
When Pixar's new animated adventure Brave reaches UK cinemas next week, even grumps like me, who feel the picture falls short of the studio's usual standard, will be cheering in the streets. The cause for celebration is the film's emphasis on the relationship between a young, assertive Scottish princess called Merida and her mother. The idea has long prevailed that a film's potential audience falls in inverse proportion to the main character's oestrogen levels, but this has been discredited by Brave, which has already grossed more than $340m. This year we have also seen the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins's novel The Hunger Games ($683m worldwide), and two popular spins on Snow White (Mirror, Mirror and...

Now that Hilary Duff is pregnant, MIley Cyrus has ditched the blonde wig for a few tattoos, Demi Lovato has taken a trip to rehab and Selena Gomez has Bieber fever, Disney is on the hunt for its next superstar--and they might have found one in Debby Ryan. But Debby Ryan isn't your average Disney starlet.

She was 80. With a distinctive beauty mark below her lower right lip, Francis, though never a top-ranking star, always had her devoted cult followers. Among her better-known movies were Bad Day at Black Rock, Blackboard Jungle, Don't Go Near the Water and Funny Girl,...

How far can Tom Cruise go on the strength of a smile and a pair of sunglasses? Back in the days of Risky Business, a poster image of Cruise beaming his best "Wtf?" grin over the top of a pair of Wayfarers helped sell not only the movie but also the shades.
