The Passion of Augustine, winner of last year’s Quebec Cinema Award for Best Picture, makes its VOD bow August 15, and a new trailer for the film gives a look at what to expect. The film stars Céline Bonnier as Mother Augustine, a Roman Catholic nun who teaches music in a convent school in rural Quebec in the 1960s and is fighting to preserve her school against the backdrop of the social changes wrought by Vatican II and Quebec’s Quiet Revolution. When her talented but…...

The Forbidden Room debuted at Sundance Film Festival, and a significant portion of the audience left the screening within the first 15 minutes of the opening credits. This polarizing film is a symphonic cacophony of visual and aural stimulation, with interludes of absurd humor to relieve the pressure. Co-directors/writers Guy Maddin and Evan Johnson along with co-writers Robert Kotyk, John Ashbery and Kim Morgan crafted the story like a traditional Russian nesting doll, with tales within tales -- and sometimes within inanimate objects such as a urine stain within which a battle rages. Lovers, murderers, chanteuses, vampire bananas, motorcycle girls and skeletons are just a few of the macabre players in this delightfully demented and disturbing tale.
The challenge of The Forbidden Room is to follow the threads of each of the stories that are interwoven in a crudely but lovingly handcrafted tapestry. After a brief introduction on "How to Take A Bath,...

André Forcier's Coteau Rouge will open the upcoming Festival des films du monde de Montréal on August 18. Moreover, The Cultural Post learned that the film will hit Quebec's theatres on September 9.
The film takes place on the South Shore of Montreal, which means in the suburbs.
Éric Milijours (Roy Dupuis), a wealthy real estate agent, wants to build a new condo in the neighbourhood of Coteau Rouge. However, many inhabitants of the neighbourhood are against that project.
While Céline Bonnier plays Éric's wife, the film also stars Bianca Gervais, Gaston Lepage, Pascale Montpetit, France Castel, Charlotte Laurier, Julie du Page, Donald Pilon, Sandrine Bisson, Éric Bruneau, Luc Senay, Sylvain Massé and Maxime Desjardins-Tremblay.

Radio-Canada, a French Canadian TV network, has renewed the drama Les rescapés for a second season.
However, the TV network didn't officially confirm it. We only learned it through a list of show which will receive funding from the Fonds Quebecor, a private patronage program for TV production.
This show created by Frédéric Ouellet (Grande ourse) follows a family from Montreal in 1964. Gérald Boivin (Roy Dupuis), a detective of the Montreal Police, and his family have been mysteriously transported in the Montreal of 2010. While being in a-not-so distant future, the Boivins will question their values and beliefs. Besides, whether they like it or not, the family has to build closer ties. However, in order to go back to where they came from, the Boivins must find the man who sent them in the future.
The show also stars Guylaine Tremblay, Maxim Gaudette, Céline Bonnier, Pierre-Alexandre Fortin, Eve Lemieux, Antoine L'Écuyer,...

This afternoon, the nominees for the Jutra Award, Quebec's own Oscars, were announced. Unlike last year, there are two new things that we should expect to see. The first one being that the jury will be formed by 18 people. Secondly, all members of the jury have seen the films that are nominated. Besides, the host of evening will be Patrice L'Écuyer and the ceremony will take place at La Tohu on March 28. Also note that the Jutra Award will be broadcasted live on Radio-Canada. Anyway, the following is the list of nominees.

In a near and uneasy future, global warming has had an unexpected impact on the city of Montreal. Very suddenly, the ground of the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district has begun sprouting vast quantities of precious, pricey truffles. They are an immediate sensation worldwide with gourmands, bringing prosperity to Montrealers. When a fur-stole factory sets up shop in the neighbourhood, no one doubts that it’s a front for a greedy corporation seeking a monopoly over the valuable truffles. Before long, the earth begins to give up the last of its riches and poverty returns to the working class. The enigmatic company does have one challenger—Charles (Roy Dupuis), an independent truffle-hunter with an exceptional sense of smell, permitting him to make great hauls of truffles. Ready to do anything to block the competition, the company sets in motion furious diabolical plots to undo Charles and his companion Alice (Céline Bonnier). Alone again the powerful organization,...
