- He directed Anna & Bella (1984), which was awarded with an Oscar® at the 58th Academy Awards, for Best Animated Short Film.
- The "Børge Ring Award" is named in his honor, founded in 2007 by The Danish Animation Society (Danish: Animationssammenslutningen or "ANIS"). It is chosen between all animation films in the program at the Odense International Film Festival. The prize can be awarded to animation films in all programs, and as of 2015, winners of the competition can qualify for review by the Oscar® committee.
- The internationally known Danish film animator and jazz musician was born into a musical family - his father was composer Oluf Ring.
