The Shanghai Film Festival has abruptly yanked its opening movie, the $80 million patriotic war drama “The Eight Hundred,” on the eve of the fest’s kickoff, Variety has confirmed. A restored 4K version of “Midnight Cowboy” will play tomorrow night instead, the organizers announced Friday evening on social media.
The cancellation of the Saturday premiere was made for unspecified “technical reasons,” which is often a euphemism for censorship problems, although a source close to the project told Variety that that is not the issue in this case and that the film had successfully passed the content censorship stage. “Technical reasons” were also cited in the withdrawal of Zhang Yimou’s “One Second” from the Berlin Film Festival in February.
While Chinese authorities have withdrawn films from other film festivals – two were pulled from the Berlinale, including “One Second” – it’s unusual for a Chinese-made film to be yanked from a Chinese festival.

Leading Chinese film studio Huayi Bros. has begun sounding out international distributors in Berlin about director Guan Hu’s $80 million war film “800.” It will be completed by midsummer and is one of the most anticipated Chinese titles of the year.
Guan, who broke through to international and commercial success with 2015 gangster drama “Mr. Six,” is putting final touches on the film. Huayi’s pitch in Berlin focuses on the film’s fact-based narrative and the huge resources marshaled to deliver intense and realistic action. Filmed over eight months, it is the first Chinese feature to be shot with Imax digital cameras.
It’s one of just a handful of big-budget pictures generating buzz in China, where production has slowed in recent months. Dante Lam’s “Rescue,” about an intrepid Coast Guard team, is budgeted at $90 million.

We know you are eagerly awaiting to see the full Tubelight trailer, which will release today! To give you a bit more insight, to ramp up your excitement and yes, to hold you over until the trailer hits we have a set of special stills and the story behind the scenes!
As you may know, the backdrop of the film is the Indo-China conflict, and in these stills Sohail, a soldier in the Indian army, puts up a brave front and fights in the unsteady landscapes of Leh and Ladakh.
Director Kabir Khan wanted to keep his locations as authentic as possible and thus chose Leh and Ladakh to shoot the war sequence. The rocky terrains combined with high altitude made it almost impossible to shoot. However, showing unwavering determination, the cast and crew completed the shoot of the film.

Only yesterday, Bollywood Hungama had reported about Ashutosh Gowariker's eagerly awaited period film Mohenjo Daro going on floor. While we all are aware that the film has the Greek God Hrithik Roshan and debutant Pooja Hegde playing the female lead, the latest name to be added to the starcast is Arunoday Singh, who will be seen as Kabir Bedi's son and in a negative role. Speaking about this, Ashutosh said that they signed Arunoday because they wanted someone who was good looking at the same time, should also be fierce in order to play the young antagonist opposite Hrithik's character. He added that Arunoday will be more believable as Kabir Bedi's son on screen and that he suited the role perfectly. Meanwhile, an excited Arunoday Singh said that the action scenes will see him and Hrithik Roshan going head-to-head with each other. The icing on the cake,...

Ever since Ashutosh Gowarikar’s ambitious period drama Mohenjo Daro was announced, everyone has been waiting for more updates on the project. We can now announce that the shooting of the film’s first leg commenced yesterday in Bhuj, Gujarat.
Due to Hrithik Roshan’s back injury shooting was delayed, according to Sunita Gowarikar the actor has now fully recovered. “He’s recovered completely now and is looking stunning…We couldn’t start with action as Hrithik needs to familiarize himself with the character. We want him to spend a week with the character, doing dramatic sequences before we go all out with the action.”
While action has been kept on hold, action-director Glenn Boswell (The Matrix & The Hobbit) will be joining the crew next week.

In production now, the film brings together award winning international technicians including Costume Designer April Ferry Stunt-Coordinator Glenn Boswell and VFX Supervisor Karen Goulekas to bring the world and the time of the Indus Valley Civilization to life.

After coordinating stunts for action heavy films like The Thin Red Line, The Matrix Trilogy, I, Robot, Ghost Rider, The International and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, internationally renowned Stunt-Coordinator Glenn Boswell has joined the crew of Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjo Daro.
Having just wrapped his work on Peter Jackson’s Hobbit Trilogy in New Zealand, Glenn has flown into Mumbai to begin his work as the Stunt Coordinator for Mohenjo Daro, which will require a great deal of planning for the type of action sequences the script requires.
Boswell says, “I am really excited to work with Ashutosh. I love his passion for filmmaking, something, which is not very prominent in many filmmakers anymore as it used to be. I loved reading the script of Mohenjo Daro and am looking forward to designing and shooting the stunts, as there is an opportunity for some great action in this film.”

Ever since he started on the first Lord of the Rings movie, Peter Jackson has been wonderful about preparing video blogs of what’s going on on his sets. He has continued this practice through the Hobbit movies, but last Friday he tried something new for the final day of shooting: blogging throughout the day. With pictures!
Here’s his first entry, and a sampling of the photos. For the full day’s entries, which include some really interesting explanations of “music spotting” with composer Howard Shore, a reference to Andy Serkis currently shooting Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (“with Andy Serkis busy being a monkey at the moment”), mention of a “Film 3 extended cut”, and some very cool insights into what a day as Peter Jackson is like, check out Jackson’s Facebook page.

As of today Peter Jackson is completely finished shooting the last two installments of his Hobbit trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hoibbit: There and Back Again. As a way to celebrate and say goodbye, Jackson live-blogged the day, posting several behind-the-scenes photos on his official Facebook page.
The day started out with the following note, and below it you will find a series of photos.
Our last day of shooting.Ever since starting these blogs, there’s been something I thought I’d like to try one day (as well as answering the other 19 questions I owe you!) – blogging throughout a shoot day in real time. Try to give you all a feeling for what we deal with on an average day.Today is not exactly “average”, given it’s our last day of shooting, but if I don’t do it today, I never will!

Peter Jackson has spent 15 years in the world of Tolkien and yesterday…it all came to an end. It was the final day of shooting and to make it special Peter kept his Facebook page updated throughout the day. Here are all his photos along with his commentary for you to enjoy, right after the jump.

Peter Jackson has never hesitated to share many, many steps of the production of his films on his Facebook page, but yesterday he went into serious overdrive. To commemorate the final-- yes, actual final this time-- day of production on The Hobbit, Jackson essentially liveblogged his entire day in production, from waking up and snapping a photo of his cat before leaving the house to the detailed description of each individual soundstage where production was taking place. The above photo you see is the final one, of Richard Armitage as Thorin going to battle against a character that will be green-screened in later. Here's how Jackson described the day he'd chosen to document so thoroughly: I've been lying here in pitch darkness, watching fight rehearsals over and over again. Our stunt co-ordinatior, Glen Boswell, worked with the actors last weekend, designing some climatic battle moments. He filmed them, and I...

Produced by Dr.Bhupendra Kumar Modi and directed by Gowariker, Buddha tells the journey of Gautam Buddha right from when he was known as Prince Siddhartha to his moment of enlightenment when he became Buddha. While the hunt for the actor who will play the lead role is still on, it's quite interesting to note that the film will primarily have an all-international crew except production designer Nitin Chandrakant Desai who has worked with Gowariker on most of his films.
