Major League Baseball pushed out the architect of its digital media business following reports of troubling workplace behavior, the Wall Street Journal reports. Michael Phelps has had a brutal couple of years, but he has since gotten through them with the help of friends, family and rehab. When Phelps was arrested for DUI in September 2014, many, including himself, thought his Olympic swimming days were over. It was his second arrest for the same reason in 10 years, which ultimately led him to check-in to a rehab facility for treatment. Prior to checking in, however, he wasn't coping very well. "I was in a really dark place...not wanting to be alive anymore…I look back now...I lived in a bubble for a long time," he says in the new Sports Illustrated. Even his longtime coach, Bob Bowman, felt that something bad would happen to the Olympian ahead of his...

The most decorated athlete in Olympic history, Michael Phelps, is coming out of retirement.
Bob Bowman, the swimmer's coach told reporters on Monday (April 14) that the athlete extrodinarre will compete in three events at a meet in Mesa, Ariz., on April 24-26.
The return will mark the first time Phelps has entered competition since the 2012 London Olympics.
While not ruling out a return to the Olympics in Rio, the coach said, "I think he's just going to test the waters a little bit and see how it goes. I wouldn't say it's a full-fledged comeback."
He continued, "I wouldn't say it's 100 percent on the radar. After Mesa, we're going to sit down and talk about it."...

Michael Phelps, the 22-time Olympic medalist, is expected to race in the Arena Grand Prix in Mesa, Ariz., towards the end of April.
Michael Phelps Out Of Retirement
Phelps, 28, has not competed in a meet since the London 2012 Olympics, and had effectively retired from competing with Us Swimming. His coach, Bob Bowman, is now saying that the star swimmer has made the decision to reverse his decision to retire and will hit the lanes shortly.
"As of today, I definitely expect him to swim," Bowman told USA Today Sports of the April 24-26 meet. "We're looking forward to it. I think it'll be great for the sport to have Michael compete again. We really don't have any expectations for what might happen. We just want to have some fun with it and see how it goes."

R.B.I. Baseball returned to the gaming world Wednesday after a nearly two-decade hiatus. After playing the iOS version for several hours, I’d say Major League Baseball Advanced Media has rapped a sharp single with this game, but only that. The game is pretty stripped-down and more arcade-like than I expected, lacking full 25-player lineups, the ability to shift the positioning of infielders and outfielders and pretty much anything else strategic about baseball. And that’s fine with Mlbam for right now.

The new year has barely started, yet I already have a candidate for the eventual list of 2014′s most influential media execs: Mlb Advanced Media CEO Bob Bowman. His sports-focused streaming video and Internet operation is poised to become an entertainment power following the announcements at International CES this month that it will drive two potentially ground-breaking new services. On February 24, WWE will launch a subscription-based online video channel, WWE Network, that will include live and on-demand library programming. (Bowman sat on the WWE board from 2003-2008.) And Sony turned heads with its plan to introduce a Web-based pay TV service that will include live programming from channels that are only available now to subscribers of traditional cable, satellite, and telco video services. Mlbam’s state-of-the-art infrastructure already handles live and on-demand streaming for college basketball’s March Madness, CBS Sports, and ESPN3, as well as Glenn Beck’s TheBlaze...

Michael Phelps was on Today this morning, once again being asked if he’s really competed at his last Olympics, making Matt Lauer the latest person to refuse to believe Phelps is not going to go to Rio in 2016. He later teamed up with Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer, and Ricky Berens in the 4×200 Free Relay to win Gold.
